Nice! Isn't G51C 1440p not 4K?

Shoot, I might be getting my terms mixed up. It is 2560x1440, definitely not 4K. For some reasons I thought I read "UHD" was the term for that.

It was my fifth year at my job yesterday and work gave me a plaque and $300 worth of gift cards. And it just so happened that my local electronics store had a Samsung Odyssey G51C 27" monitor on sale, so now it's mine :)

Woo boy, apart from the UHD resolution making everything look extra crispy, playing games that support it at 165fps is lifechanging. It's so SMOOTH. Fun fact: Azur Lane can be unlocked to run at 165fps and looks really nice.

And another little achievement: my rig can still hold 60fps native with Cyberpunk 2077 running at UHD. That's when I knew it was money well spent.

welcome to the high refresh rate club! glad you are enjoying it! high refresh is very nice indeed

what's with the blue lines on the left your new monitor? is that just part of that game?

bought this a few weeks back but wanted to run it for a bit before posting up. Excellent performance! Shifts a ton of air for a 6 inch fan. Had it running for over 10 hours last night, the longest so far and still runs a treat. The only negative, the item description suggests "ultra-quiet"... thats a load of bull!! I expected whisper quiet on the lowest setting but it tolerably audible. Anyway i'm happy with it so no RMA

What surprised me the most was the amount of air it pushes from a distance. I went for a USB unit so i could plug it into a portable charger and bring it closer to bed. Not needed, from 4 metres away this 6 incher extends its reach far and wide... (naughty little bugger)

There always cool those things (no pun intended) but saw a USB powered fridge the other day - claimed it had 5-8w cooling power!

Thank you! It's a pity my favourites of all time don't support anything over 60fps, but I can sure enjoy the QHD crispness in them.

That's part of the game, it's an area of movement indicator :)

this is why I love my recent Steam Deck purchase, I can enjoy all the games that are capped at 30 or 60 fps very smoothly, for some reason Arch Linux SteamOS has a really nice feature where games "feel" smoother at 60 fps then say 60 fps on a Windows PC. its very strange, its subtle, not like a major change, but I like it.

also some games give me trouble on Windows, like Dishonored had really bad screen tearing, but on Steam Deck it was flawless. So, I am pretty happy with this purchase, its very 'complimentary' to a decent Windows PC setup.

Now my next game I play on Steam Deck will probably be FFX HD Remaster, capped at 30 fps... but my hope is Steam Deck makes it really enjoyable, we will see.

I had a similar feeling with recent controller switch on PC. Games felt sluggish beyond what 60fps should. The difference was instantly noticeable and subtle.

may I ask what controller you switched to that gave you these benefits? my guess is it was some kind of latency problem with your previous controller, but this is interesting

A number of years back I bought a Logitech F310 to play Asphalt8 on igpu. Obviously I chalked up the differences between playing with it and say on a console to unrefined PC hardware across the board. It was just a fluke I came across an xbox360 controller with 10' cord in good shape few days ago.

Latency or some other improvement in the driver was my guess. FH4 being an inhouse MS development seemed to show the connection was lagging enough the game purposely inserted a delay.

The other half is related to build quality. Less force and quicker response to input equates to smoother gameplay with less fatigue. Right trigger on F310 took multiple pounds of pressure to fully depress with relatively large gaps in steps the sensor was physically capable of registering. Joysticks were equally unsatisfying.

If you played anything like Trials Rising that lack of fine gradation amidst constant fractions of ON/OFF multiple times a second was mentally and physically taxing. I believe the term I settled upon was acquainting it with the illicit meaning of a speedball.

Fair enough. It looked REALLY out of place.

Pay attention to JayzTwoCents on Youtube. Corsair is one of his regular sponsors so he will have an announcement about it. He been plugging it for a while now, so they're getting close.

Upgraded my modem and router. Arris S33 and D-Link AX80. Both have a 2.5Gbps port. I get 1257 Mbps down at the router. I have Comcast internet.

Ah, Comcast with data limits?...
I pay for the no data cap.... They should just get rid of that.... If I got there new modem there is no data cap. Would be 15 more a month lol. I use about 2 TB a month.

Yeah it's stupid, here in my country in EU, no internet provider has data limits, however all mobile providers here do...

Now in my case I don't use much mobile internet.

Ok maybe a tad overkill but since i’ll be swimming in blown in fibreglass in the attic routing some network cable i figured i’d do it safely.

Actually that looks just about sufficient* depending on how likely asbestos or other goodies are. XX years exhausting poo odors into an enclosed space, that sort of stuff. :D

*Hard to tell if you have enclosed googles in the bottom left white bag. You will not regret full eye protection!!!!

not many days ago i got a new monitor: Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240 27-inch 1440p OLED 240Hz.
to replace my 4k 144hz ips 28"
i was wondering if i should make a post about down grading to 1440p because its is a big deal, and the annoying pixel rbg layout or lack there of.
as far as i know it so new a monitor that it does not have a hdr spec yet.
this is the first oled display i have ever seen and think the price was painfully high but i am happy enough to keep it as my main monitor.
the 3 year warranty seem great and the stand and build quality is the best i had. not rgb light on the thing either and and no cooling fan, and no electrical noise or coil whine.

Finally pulling the trigger on a new laptop to replace my XPS 9370. Crazy to think I paid $1600 for that 8550U+8GB+256GB problem child inferno back in 2018...

X13 Gen 3 came down to $1300cad and I decided it was time. Brighter option screen so there's that. Great serviceability as expected from Thinkpad. Also the temp/power testing for the X13G3 6850U is out of this world - 69C max CPU load??? I have a feeling the 680M is going to kick the everliving shit out of my 2300MHz Vega 8 for about 1/3 the power. Maybe I'll have to sell my 5700G for being useless

Might even get a T14s Gen 2 for my dad too while I'm at it. $960cad for a 14" Thinkpad with 5850U and 16GB of LPDDR4X and 512GB NVMe, plus 3 years of warranty........great deal if I ever saw one.

I'm not gonna play anybody's copyright cop... but holy balls, does that look sketchy. Gives off the same malware vibes as a USB stick laying in the parking lot. I'd need an airgapped burner rig just to boot that.

But hey, maybe I'm just paranoid. (Did I mention that I just finished Cory Doctorow's Attack Surface?) Anyway, best of luck! :rockout:
Emulation laws allow it to be bought or used in a lot of the western world, assuming you own legit copies - and china doesn't care at all, so they sell this stuff

I bought PS2 stuff to get a friends one working with a dodgy DVD drive, so they could (legally, here) rip games on one unit, and play on the other - and it came preloaded with hundreds of ROM's despite not even mentioning an SD card in the ad

not many days ago i got a new monitor: Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240 27-inch 1440p OLED 240Hz.
to replace my 4k 144hz ips 28"
i was wondering if i should make a post about down grading to 1440p because its is a big deal, and the annoying pixel rbg layout or lack there of.
as far as i know it so new a monitor that it does not have a hdr spec yet.
this is the first oled display i have ever seen and think the price was painfully high but i am happy enough to keep it as my main monitor.
the 3 year warranty seem great and the stand and build quality is the best i had. not rgb light on the thing either and and no cooling fan, and no electrical noise or coil whine.

I struggle going from 32" 4K to 32" 1440p now, and BRG has been my biggest deterrent from OLED - i spend a lot of time looking at text

i am guessing that some people wont notice the text issue all that much, but at least for my first week its noticeable. i do not help that my second monitor is the old 4k ips.
the BRG issue also shows on edges and small ui elements in games, and on top of that there is the dirty screen effect of many oled panels. all these little things adding up. the low resolution or large pixel size does the most harm. so anyone not used to 4k beforehand should be fine.
i knew my purchase was not going to last long because 4k was so impressive when i moved to that.
