AMD Flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX Slips to Under $900, Now Starts at $881

AMD's flagship graphics card, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, based on the RDNA3 architecture, is seeing its street pricing in fall, as the cheapest custom-design card can be had for as low as $881. The XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX Speedster Merc 310 is listed on Amazon for $979, with a $97 checkbox coupon that sends its price down to $881. The next cheapest card is the Sapphire RX 7900 XTX Pulse, going for $899 after a $100 checkbox coupon on its $999 price. Meanwhile, the RX 7900 XT can be had for as low as $719 with an $80 coupon. Considering that the RX 7900 XTX has shown performance at-par or better than the GeForce RTX 4080, with ray tracing performance comparable to the RTX 3090 Ti, this is tremendous value, given that $881 is what some premium RTX 4070 Ti cards are being sold at.

The current GPU offering is so awful, expensive, too big and risk of fire in the case of RTX4000, AMD annoyingly doesn't offer VRR.

Doesn't work with LG C/B9 while the consoles do, so there is something wrong somewhere. We used to have a workaround with RDNA, but seems it doesn't work anymore or limited to 60hz.

that is due to the TV unit and/or whatever GPU you are using.... not because of the VRR tech itself. it was a very early adopter of using an HDMI 2.1 capable port if I am not mistaken and it was not as compatible as hoped. rtings.com review seems to also confirm my suspicions

800 is the right price considering its performance and relative to past gen offerings, and especially if placed competitively against Nvidia's line up.

AMD's margins, I don't care about or know anything of, its too nebulous; after all some cards might even have negative margin while others compensate for it.

Yes, and 800 at this perf level / stack position would be a return to norm. This is the subtop and halo cards at 900~+ has been a truth since the first Titan.

Some people are reporting that RDNA3 works now after an AMD driver, it's definitely an AMD limitation/problem not the TV, the new consoles work perfectly, and nVidia GPUs work. But now that's fixed RDNA3 seems to be an option.

7900 XTX is not a halo card because it can't compete with the 4090, which is. Therefore there's no justification for AMD charging a halo price for the 7900 XTX, just like there's no justification for making excuses for either NVIDIA or AMD increasing prices simply because they want to.

$800 is the price this card should've launched at, not the price that it will be at when it goes EOL.

4060Ti at my local Micro Center, they're sitting on 70 - the day after this card released they were sitting on 103. It is very possible they've sold more than 33 in the month's time the card has been out and they've received more cards to put into inventory.....but you never know, maybe they've only sold about 3 dozen.

The 3060Ti at the same store, they're sitting on 40 (not counting the couple of open box ones) - the day after the 4060Ti released they were sitting on 113 (if memory serves me right). As it stands, it appears that the 3060Ti is outselling the 4060Ti, how sad is that?

It's good to see that these newer gen cards are dropping in price, even if it's only $20 here and there. Hopefully we'll soon see these cards priced appropriately. In my opinion, there is zero reason the 4080 is a $1200 card. I'm sure Nvidia could drop the price to $900 and still make good money on it (even at $900 I'd say the card is still overpriced, should be closer to $750 at the very most, but that's just me).

It's important to take into account the relative cost of DLSS/RT (forward facing technologies that in themselves represent a qualitative advantage over RDNA). And to that effect the 799USD 4070 ti equals it in RT based games, and trounces it in upsampling tech. The 7900XTX is also a card that has apparent clocking issues and may be supplanted by revised silicon. Do right by yourself and buy Nvidia, at least this generation.
