Just got a new Sony NW-A306 Walkman. The sound - especially the hi-rez stuff - is incredibly good.

Sony is good. I still use my NWZ-B183 when I travel up to this day. Having a dedicated player with buttons is way more comfortable than touching your phone's screen a million times to find the album you want. :)

Laptops only have one rule in my book: smaller is better. They're supposed to be portable, right? :ohwell:
Until they reach the point the performance is so bad they're unusuable, which can happen from being underpowered or undercooled with very little usable in-between these days :(

Not if their size makes their innards uncoolable  I only know of a single 13" ultraportable on the entire market that has "good" cooling performance, and that's the Dragonfly Pro which manages about 75C sustained at 40W on its 7735HS. And that's only because just like the G14 it employs a large vapor chamber to get better cooling out of its small size, which HP also used as an excuse to solder down the SSD and Wifi card.

Besides, at a certain level of "portability" and gimped performance they'll just be fighting a losing battle against the iPad. If for whatever reason the G14 didn't work out, I was ready to give up on laptops entirely and go 11" iPad.

Glad you finally hit on something worth owning! That was getting to be a bit painful to watch.

That depends on what you need it for, I guess. Pretty much everything is good enough for web browsing and video playback these days.

Well, the Celeron N4020 never goes above 60 °C in my passively cooled 11" netbook. Not that you're ever gonna do any serious work or gaming on it, though, so there's that. At least I never planned on it, anyway. I just needed something so that I'm not tapping my phone's screen when I'm away on a holiday.

Like the pentium laptop i bitched about a few pages back? That thing barely handled 720p video, and if it was HEVC that didnt work either

I'll correct myself: anything new is good enough for web browsing and video playback (I missed those pages). :ohwell:

34GN850P-B, a refurb with 50 hours of use. Around €200 cheaper than retail.

LG needs to be punished for them power bricks.
Gonna have to talk with my company about upgrading the laptop. Stupid HDMI only goes up to 50 (yes) Hz on 3440x1440.

Never hurts to try and get something with more memory and cores at the same time. It is a 4 year old laptop after all.

I bet your existing work laptop does everything that your workplace expects you to do on it! Emails. Maybe an office document. Maybe some web based data entry. Print a bit. Run MS Teams.

Dear Boss: Sir, please can I have a 4K 120Hz laptop so I can enter the data quicker. Best wishes, Chomiq.

lol. It might work!

Yeah there are some things that are really weird in both British and American engrish and so in swedish...

I'm sitting on my davenport laughing. It does not have wifi. The tarnation!
Is the non-wifi model a deal breaker?

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
forgot about that one ...

i had the one from Xiaomi in mind but none in stock and 60chf+

20230627_140542.jpg20230627_144030.jpg20230627_144121.jpg20230627_144128.jpg20230627_144205.jpg

it works, carry pouch, light and Sclaverand/Presta adapter in the box
20230627_144104.jpg

about the same price of a Cycplus A2 on Aliexpress (same OEM it seems) Intertronics is a local brand nonetheless, some disadvantage over the Cycplus A2, Micro-USB instead of C, single 500mAh cell instead of 4 (although not sure about that, without disassembling it ... and i will not :p but 12.8V on a single 500mAh cell if it is a 18650 like most of these pumps is not possible, so, probably 4x500mAh. ) and no powerbank function (not that i complain, i have enough powerbanks as it is )
20230627_144115.jpg

saw numerous 5* customer reviews, where the 4* usually mentioned "1* less because of Micro-USB"

best point, you can set the pressure in PSI, Bar, Kpa or Kgf/Cm2 and it stops automaticaly once reaching it (and less noisy than the one from Baseus or Xiaomi )

I bought a 7800X3D (boo, big fat clichè)! So far, it's pretty disappointing temperature-wise. At stock, it jumps straight to 89 °C in Cinebench, and I get 17000 points with a 280 mm AIO. In the TPU review, it did 18000 on air, I don't know how. :( Turning off boost (4.2 GHz constant) gives me 16000 points, which is not bad, at around 73-74 °C. I'll try to repaste it tomorrow, maybe I botched something, though I doubt it.

I also bought an 8 TB hard drive because I was running out of storage, and a Sapphire Pulse 6500 XT just to have as a spare GPU.

Edit: Even this Sapphire card was the quietest of the bunch in the TPU test, but I swear to god, the Asus Tuf 6500 XT that I sold not long ago was a lot quieter. I don't know what's happening. :(

That should be the last of my upgrades in 2023-24. I've spent way too much money on PC hardware recently. :ohwell:

It does seem to run slightly hotter than the 5800X3D so I assume the usual caveats apply. Pay special attention to quality of paste application, use an offset mount for AIOs, make sure your blocks/AIOs are mounted very tight, etc. My other Ryzen CPUs (and Intel CPUs of course) I could probably mount the cooler with my friggin feet and still get normal results, but X3D seems to be quite picky about mounting. I can easily produce noticeably subpar results just from manhandling an already-mounted cooler too much during fan install.

I hear you - it's time for other hobbies to get in on the $$$ too :D

Good point, thanks. I'll try to do a remount tomorrow. Also, this might be the point when the trusty MX-4 isn't necessarily enough. Do you know if there are any offset mounts available for a be quiet! AIO?

Definitely. I've got a holiday coming up too - bad timing for this purchase, but at least I've got Jedi: FO with it.

There's the Thermal Grizzly Adapter & Offset Mounting Kit, which looks like it is universal. Maybe you'd need to message their support to check.

That's my motherboard there! At least it's compatible with that. :D Thanks, I'll try. :)

Update: Right, I've ordered the TG offset kit - I've got a holiday coming up, so I don't really have time to go back and forth with their support right now. Based on the installation videos I've seen, it should fit my cooler mount, so we'll see. I'll post more updates on it later.
