Primary system running a 7800X3D. My secondary system a 5800X3D since last week.

I was so impressed by the performance of the 5800X3D that I wanted another one and ditch my 8700K in my secondary system.

I am running the newest, last released AM4, the Ryzen7 5700X. I upgraded to it due to its performance to power draw specs. If I am correct, it is the best of the bunch.

Exactly what i want to do with my 2 sons and daughter. I want to get them into gaming on the PC but its just too expensive to buy 3x Machines vs me just buying them a PS5 for Xmas.

the 5700x is not the last AM4 CPU released
nothing wrong with the CPU at all, but it's just far from the final one on AM4

Still on a 5950x. Will probably look at upgrading next generation but probably not to x3d if they maintain the hybrid die design with one x3d and one nonx3d for the higher core count parts.

I am considering a 5800X3D, but:
- I would lose rendering performance vs. the current 3900X
- I'm gaming at 1440p limited to 72FPS with a 3060Ti, so I don't even know if I would see a performance benefit with X3D, because all the online benchmarks are done with 3090/4090 at unlocked FPS
- playing mostly older games (never pay more than 15€/game) so the specs are less demanding anyway

At this point I might just wait for next gen CPUs and GPUs instead of upgrading the current parts.
Games that are single threaded (mostly older, but some newer) benefit greatly in lows in late game. The best examples are sins of a solar empire rebellion and starcraft II, both of which go from nearly unplayable in late game to 60+ FPS buttery smoothness. If your older games dont bog down, you'lls ee no improvement.

For me, on non x3d chips sins would get into the teen FPS range on 10 player xtra large maps. This went to mid to upper 20s on zen 3, but still suffered from major input lag. On the 5800x3d 60-70 FPS with no lag.
I built this PC to last a decade (10 yrs) and its done the first 5yrs very well but its getting time to upgrade this 2700X this yr sometime but its been hard to press the trigger with the prices of the 5800X3D which has only just got under the $500 price ( $499 to be exact) and then I also gotta upgrade the cooler to handle that extra heat. I am looking forward to the upgrade just gotta hope those prices keep coming down slowly and then the next 5yrs should be great :) (Till the 1080 Ti dies haha)
Having used both, the heat output under heavy load is comparable. The x3d having more limited clocks and lower voltages really helps out.

I grew up with dell desktops. They worked great for what I needed.

Look into gently used desktops from OEMs. Some like dell optiplex units can be easily retrofitted to support 1660 supers or similar GPUs. Or give them a budget and help them select the parts themselves, my early machines were weak but I loved using them anyway since I selected their parts and built them.

I'm talking about one of those Government horizontal Dells they buy in packages of 1,000 at a time. The ones with the integrated graphics and one stick of the slowest DDR RAM.

Side note: Gateway in the cow box was better! LoL

Seen this firsthand as I play both of those.
SCII is entirely different - theres just no slowdown except with the exception of some of Stukovs units in the coop missions. Something about the slime trails from the Diamondbacks lags every CPU, period.

As to the heat/wattage comment: It's AMD - you can just limit PBO. Tasks with a set limit (time to completion or gaming with an FPS cap) the x3D will use *less* power because the work is done faster.

I got an R7-5800X3D to prolong the life of my platform and therefore, generate less e-waste. It's plenty fast enough for any game on the market so it was definitely worth it.

So far it looks like the reverse of the GPU survey where AMD had one-third of the TPU reader base. Now its one-third Intel CPU users and two-thirds AMD CPU users.
Yeah... funny how that works, eh? Also, if we were to think about ten years ago, it would've probably been about 80% Intel and 20% AMD. You never know what's going to happen in this industry and that's what keeps it interesting! :D
currently everyone in my family with a gaming PC (three people)
run a 5800X3D with different RDNA2 GPUs (6750XT, 6800XT, 6950XT)

That's cool but it also makes me curious... what do you do with your i7-13700K build? That's an amazing gaming CPU as well! :D
Imagine running Intel in 2023...

View attachment 309313
Intel 13th-gen is perfectly fine.... for people who have their roof covered with solar panels. ;)
My 3600 is still serving me fine. The 5800X3D is neat, but I can’t justify the cost of an upgrade for any of my current use cases. I may do a new build sometime next year or later this year and pass my current system to a relative though. They are still using a Phenom II system.
Heh, yeah, I just upgraded my mother's PC from a Phenom II X4 940 with an HD 6450 to an FX-8350 with an RX 6500 XT. For general PC use, modern parts are way overkill. :D
I thought the X3D in the CPU name mean't it came with 3D V-Cache?
Yep, that's right.
I'm gonna need a real good excuse to pop for a 5800X3D as I'm not held back by the 5600 just yet. I'm waiting for bugs and price reductions to settle out for 2023's bigger games so the CPU demands for some of those may end up being that excuse.
That just means that you're smart. There's no reason to upgrade if what you have does what you want it to.
3600 here, I may get a 5800X3D later. 5600X3D would be nice but sadly it's an USA-only SKU.
According to Hardware Unboxed, the performance delta between the R5-5600X3D and R7-5800X3D is the same as the price delta so we're not really missing out on much.
I...lost all sense & have ended up with a 7800X3D & 4090 running on a 42" LG OLED TV on my desk. I have a problem!
Sounds like a pretty nice problem to have! ;)
Intel here, in the minority.
Hey, if it works, it works, eh? :D
5600x. The 5800x3d was tempting, but I only would really need it for HLL and Squad (poorly optimized games). I'd rather save the money and effort for the next build.
That's good advice. No point in getting what won't help you. :D
Still using my 12100F since 2022 february, its enough for my current use case so its gonna stay till 2024 or so and then maybe pick up a Raptor Lake refresh 14400 or a second hand 13400.
If it does what you want it to, that's all you need! ;)
7900X3D. Upgraded from a 5800X3D. Paired with a 7900XT with a 4K 144hz panel gives stellar performance.
Yeah that would give stellar performance! You and I are reversed because I have a 5800X3D with a 7900 XTX. :D

If the GPU landscape wasn't so horrible I would've pulled the trigger on a new build with a 5800X3D earlier this year. Instead, I upgraded a handful of components (SSDs, fans, quieter PS) in my 6 year old i7-7700K + 1080 Ti rig.
Hey, for most games, an i7-7700K with a GTX 1080 Ti is still more than enough. People forget that the GTX 1080 Ti has 11GB of VRAM which means that it's only limited by it's GPU horsepower and it has plenty of that! :D
Yeah. Even with the latest bios for my mb, I get random usb disconnects.
I know the fix for that. You just have to update your chipset drivers. I had similar problems with my 990FX motherboard back in the day. The chipset drivers have a direct effect on the USB ports because USB is part of the chipset.

It's a quick-and-easy installation package that works for A320, B350, X370, B450, X470, A520, B550, X570, X570S, A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E using Windows 10 or Windows 11:

->AMD Chipset Driver Link<-

That should solve all of your problems just as it solved mine.

My fellow SINS player!

The difference is night and day. Once you get used tot he buttery smooth 1% lows, you just cant go back. x3d chips are a real game changer.
I'm talking about one of those Government horizontal Dells they buy in packages of 1,000 at a time. The ones with the integrated graphics and one stick of the slowest DDR RAM.
That's what I grew up with. A dell dimension 4600 bought used, with 256MB of DDR266 and a celeron D 2.4 that couldnt run the windows desktop.

Later upgraded to a optiplex GX 620 and used that tower until 2013.

Still have a optiplex 7010 tower, those things make great XP machines. Some part of me loves seeing powerful PCs built into OEM desktop boxes.
Side note: Gateway in the cow box was better! LoL
We had one of those at the turn of the century, sadly it was long gone by the time I got into PCS.

It's not enough for ultra settings in CP2077 even at 1080p!

Just kidding, it's literally a handful of games running not precisely sweet on this GPU. 7700K is what ruins that gentleman's UX the most.

I'm currently stuck on Intel because I got a premium tier LGA1200 motherboard and swapping to either AM4 (too little uplift) or AM5 (extremely expensive where I live) makes negative sense. LGA1700 makes very little sense, too. Mostly bottlenecked by my GPU anyway, RX 6700 XT is not a 3440x1440@165 GPU after all.

Will just get myself something decent (i7-11700 most likely) and call it a day. My current EngiSample CPU is running 8c8t at 4 GHz and it's also degrading so it's not ideal.

Yikes... I spent years repairing and fixing those computers and I'm not a fan. However, if that is all you had, I get it and I would get one too. They would not have been my go to's.

Ok, started using, but not finished building the system yet, as I'm missing a part...
