Not yet at that point. I was an adult and married in the mid 90's. They were still around. Less common, certainly. But if you were born in the 90's then yeah, it's easy to understand why you've never seen one.
I am a lot older and never seen one in the flesh so to speak. Kissamies has to be one of the youngest people on here.certainly on this Retro Forum.

I had that red-ish Airflow cooler several years ago but gave it to my friend

Really? Ok, fair enough. Maybe it's a regional thing? Stateside, they're still not difficult to find. Uncommon these days, but not rare,... yet.

Nah. You're still a spring chicken! :toast:
The thing is i was never into Retro PC stuff until i joined Tech power up in June 2021.I would not want to be 33 today with the way the world is going today.

I have a couple 5.25" floppy drives in the basement, but the last one I actively used was retired from use in 2000. My new PC at the time only had a 3.5" FDD.
One the other hand, I was using the 3.5" floppy in one of my retro rigs earlier this year. I have about five or six 3.5" floppy drives in old rigs & on the shelf.

I always liked those RAM coolers, but I was able to use an old Spark7 fan with speed controller & a couple of zip ties instead. Maybe not as good as the Corsair version, but gets the job done. :)
I started using the fan on memory with my "new BH" DDR1 memory, which would run 3.0v to 3.2v to get the clocks & timings out of them. Also used it on my D9 DDR2 kits, which ran hot without active cooling.

Thanks for that ,i had a feeling they were DDR3 thats why i left them.I have never seen DDR4 at the market i go to. :(
Yeah I was just looking for some DDR3 specifically for an FM2+ build. DDR4 is already super cheap though brand new so I just go that route if I need it. 32Gb easily under $60 if you don’t like RGB but also plenty under $70 with if you don’t need over 4000mhz. Amazing how inexpensive ram is these days. 16gb under $30!

I bought a FM2+ motherboard some months ago. If i had known at the time the 860k CPU was so weak i would not have bothered.I wish the Heatsink fan had come with the intel
things that are needed to put it on an Intel board. I might put a Linux distro on there. It only cost £35 all together.

I had a blue and black version of that kit years ago - back in the Q6600 / 680i / 8800GTX era. Still one of the cooler kits.

I got 64GB (2x32) of DDR4-3600 CL18 for $150! Doubt it will get much if any cheaper than this for a long time.

$150 is even steep currently!

Newegg right now has a nice Mushkin Redline 3600 CL18 64gb kit for $94.99 after coupon w/free shipping. Deals on deals.

Is the OS up to date (updates etc) and is the PC's clock in time?

Nice custom R9 390 X2 and I love der8auer's cat.

Mail truck brought some goodies today.

Main attraction is yet another inspiron. This time a 1501, a lower end one.

1.8ghz Sempron, 512mb ram, IXP1150, 60gb molasses SATA. I don't really need another but I'm pretty sure these just get recycled if nobody buys them and I can't let that happen. Was $4.99 with charger. It works perfectly, even the battery holds a nice charge.

Has XP on it and the data on it is basically a time capsule of a late 00s college students computer. Tons of essays. Hdd is so slow even on XP.

Also arrived is the t7400, 2gb ram, and SSD for the other Inspiron, the USB SATA enclosure was just added to my cart since it was like a dollar. Works well.

Dude. Solid! Will it accept a Turion 64 X2?! I can’t remember if it was soldered on or not. I will look it up. I am about to put together an AM2 setup. I have a sealed 5200+ in the box buttttt I am having seconds thoughts and may just order a used one instead of opening lol.

That's what I'd do man. Hard to open up oldies when they are still sealed.

Hard to watch some youtube videos where people open their old stock CPUs (especially if they are even a bit rare) though I kinda understand why they do that. And usually it's not that hard to put it back as a display piece after testing it. :)

I'm not quite sure what CPUs this supports. I'd be interested to see if it can, that would be a big upgrade. Most likely socketed since the other 2 inspirons are.

That is awesome that it went smoothly for you! Did you have to do the work around for windows 11 to install on the old hardware or did it work just fine?

I have some old tech boxes in storage at my buddies shop. I need to check it out because I do remember having a Turion 64 X2 (not sure what speed) and a pentium 3 mobile 1.26ghz as well along with some other crap. I really hope I didn’t toss it/sell it a few years back during a move when I was out of the PC scene lol.

Since 1.8GHz is pretty slow, I have tried raising the FSB with SetFSB but none of the PLLs were compatible.
