Star Citizen in its current state is a performance hog. My PC with a 7800x3d OC and 6750xt gets 45 fps minimum which is CPU limited. Optimizations are coming.
  • This game will play at 16gb but you really need 32gb minimum. The game hitches really bad with 16gb.
  • Performance scales well with memory speed. Fast memory helps.
  • An AMD 6700xt is the minimum gpu for 1080p gameplay. You need 12gb vram.
  • This game is cpu heavy and loves cache. The 5800x3d or 7800x3d is highly recommended.
  • An NVME drive is almost necessary with how much texture streaming this game does. Do not play with an had.
I have really been enjoying playing the game that is available right now. It is incredibly buggy but already provides experiences no other game can offer.

Yes this is important. My kid just bought in to Star Citizen this weekend (his job, his money) and on a R5 5500, GTX 1660 Super, 16GB DDR4 3200 it consumes every bit of RAM and after playing for a few minutes it'll start dropping frames in some areas. Turns out I have 32GB sitting around (yeah yeah) so I'll try that in his machine and see how it goes. The 1660S is fine for 900P Medium-Hi settings but the game looks decent on his small 19" monitor even on Low (when testing for where the dropped frames were coming from). It didn't seem too heavy on his CPU but with the RAM limitation I wasn't focusing on that yet.
I reckon this game might be good reason to bump to DDR5 32GB and at the optimal speed too. And Star Citizen will probably push CPU/RAM even harder, being online.

You guys really think you'll actually see a final version of this then your dreaming this games still an Alpha test sample after all this time and by the time it's finally released we'll most likely be using Quantum PCs at home

No. Squadron 42 will come out first. Star Citizen is in a playable alpha stage right now but won't be feature complete for a long time.

Who cares? I am having a ton of fun with Star Citizen in its current alpha state.

I paid 35 bucks some arbitrary number of years ago and I don't care, I just live on the idea 'What if they actually make it'. As I do with any project I 'fund'. Any hopes of it reaching the finish line are based on bullshit.

Just holding the line bruh

No, it is only in alpha. Some people think they will get to a beta release in about 2 years but I am not so optimistic. They are bottlenecked by a few must have back end features such as server meshing. Going by their roadmap all of the backend bottlenecks are almost done but I will believe it when I see it.

I think everyone and their dog is aware of the feature creep and slow development. They went all in on scope and then said hold my beer and added to the scope. We get it. It isnt a productive conversation topic because everyone knows and agrees. That horse has been beaten to a fine pulp.

What is worth discussing is that despite all of the delays and management errors they are actually beginning to have a really cool game on their hands. The playable alpha is a buggy mess but shows a lot of promise. I resurrected this thread to get people looking at this game again. It is worth the look now (10 years later )
I actually just bought the alpha two days ago. I've followed the game and production, etc, etc, for years. I always had an interest in it. I didn't get to play it the first night because the download took forever, relatively. I did get to jump in last night. After about an hour of freezing and controls locking up I did make it to my ship. After another 45 minutes, I figured out how to launch said ship and then had a bit of fun flying it around. I fully expect the bugs, so I'm not deterred by that. I'm looking forward to playing it in the coming weeks. I am surprised, however, at just how poorly it runs on my machine. Ha, I'm just not used to that with the hardware I've stacked in the case. At any rate, cheers!

Well I ran SC on a GTX 1080 (a solid 30 FPS too at good quality) so you can rest assured it ain't your hardware, its defo the game.

Your hardware is pretty good for the game. If anything, your cpu is the weak point. Cities have the worst fps. I get approximately 45 fps minimum and 90 fps average in cities with my 7800x3d. It's rough.

I know the bugs are rough when you start out. Most long time players have learned all the work arounds as second nature. I would recommend you use the guide system to get help.

The only tiny problem with that is Star Citizen was in alpha 10 years ago, when this thread started.
But you guys keep supporting it, RSI needs to know you've got their back.

Gotcha. I may check out the guide system. I was curious about that. I did notice that when I was finally able to get out of my starting location "building" in Lorville and to the metro, the frames got muuuuuch more stable.

I also think the game has taken too long to make. Please do not misunderstand that. The project has been mismanaged. They are not making one game but two. The scope is endless. Despite all that, there has been worthwhile progress.

Ten years ago all you could do is walk around the one ship. Today I am dogfighting, racing, committing acts of piracy, and having a blast. DCS offers the most similar gameplay and that is only one facet of what is possible right now. Regardless of how much longer it takes to get to whatever they ultimately call "complete", I am having fun TODAY.

No one needs to spend more than $40.50 to enjoy the alpha that is available TODAY.

Your FPS will double once you get out of the city entirely.

I'm invested in this game considering I purchased the Colonel package back during the kickstarter campaign. That said, I love the idea of the game but so far have not been impressed with the shit performance after 10 years of development. I'll keep installing it every couple of years, struggle to move around the city and rage quit until another year or two of updates make me wonder again.

I do enjoy watching all the YouTube videos though. I say, have fun! Hopefully, I will too one day.

I got my game package from @erocker in 2013. I tried it in 2016, 2018, and again in 2021. I have been playing almost daily since 2021. Getting out of the city the first time is rough. Use a guide if you need to. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/guide

Alternatively, if you don't want the help of a real person, you could try a video like this one. @Predictable, you might like this video too.

If want to try the game for free in November, make an account HERE. I will make a post when free fly begins.

Looks like the free copy that came with my 290X in 2014 might pay off. Eventually. :wtf:

installing now lol
If you have the Mustang Omega, that thing is worth $200+ on the grey market now. They are rare.

- They are further than they thought on the tech.
- An audit of the full game is necessary to test every game feature regarding servers transitions.
- They have already tested ships transitions, it works!
- Building the visual demo for CitizenCon actually helped them a lot and may result in bringing next stages of SM implementation earlier than what is planned, if stability allows it.
- Server Meshing could maybe maybe be tested in specific games modes on the Preview servers.

This is very good news. Server meshing is one of the last technological hurdles holding back many core gameplay features for the MMO Star Citizen. Server meshing is not relevant to the single player SQ42 game that is now feature complete.

Those are really hard to find. Imagine if Intel included a Sabre Raven with their GPU's. Star Citizen players would go nuts. Many of them clearly have too much disposable income.
