6cores from x79 and x99 are still relevant, but are starting to age. An 8core E5-2667v2(x79) or 8core E5-2667v4(x99) are the best options unless you want to overclock. Do you already have a board?

I have to say I don't recommend either of those platforms for newer emulation. Atleast if you are trying emulate something newer(PS3) which gets boost from AVX512. But you didn't specify what are you emulating. Emulating older systems up to PS2, Go for it if you have really old computer. Also if you can get higher cpu clocks/IPC improvement and if you don't want to buy the newest parts.

Some newer games get FPS boost from higher IPC in new prosessors compared to Sandy Bridge-Broadwell generations.

I don't know your budget, but I would probably wait AMD's newer APU's. Let's say it has a latest RDNA3+ which would have decoding&encoding for AV1 in APU. Most of mediaformats are covered. Emulation if AMD still has AVX512 on APU's, emulation is covered atleast to some point(CPU speed also matters). Gaming: some gaming can be done with APU, but it also has 8x(probably) PCI-E lanes for GPU upgrade later.

Myself waited for those APU's from spring to august. And those have not been released yet. I was gonna make small pc with Asrock DeskMeet AM5 version. But no release->so I upgraded my desktop with 7950X3D. But as there has been leaks lately, release probably is at CES.

No board yet just doing logically thinking whether I should upgrade or not

Maybe so up to Xbox 360 as I know it requires avx to run other than that the current setup it does it for me for awhile. Not spending a pretty penny just yet as I haven't planned anything ahead of time. I like a decent upgrade so I be able to spend time tinkering with it.

Don't know who else is still running the x58 boards in this forum currently as I know it a dying breed but still have purpose it maybe old but not obsolete

well I got it mostly figured out now... but seems I used the wrong voltage offset file... found out you have to use bios flashback for modified asus bios:

Yep, was able to increase offset in bios, now at 3.4 all core....

I'll have to work on it some more, but it's in workstation realm now... much more useful. Now if I can figure out how to modify it to run ram
faster than 2133. Why intel thought slow ram on server chips was a good idea is beyond me....

Yes, it will support Xeons. X99-DELUXE II - Support (asus.com) At the moment I'm on a X99 Deluxe (not the II) running a Xeon E5 2683 V4.

Yeah I had a look at the manual it shows 2 cpu power connectors one have 8 pin and the other is 4 pin. As I was head scratching it stated that you can use the 8 pin and/or without 4 pin together so it must be additional power I was thinking. Yeah the seller got back to me when I asked does it comes with all the accessories it appears not only the I/O shield and wifi antennas he asking for €270 which is abit too much to be honest. But another seller has Asus Rampage V extreme for €320 but it too far from me due to him stating collection only. But one in Europe which is somewhat acceptable for me to order without customs and tax's is ASUS ROG Strix X99 for €250 with all the accessories and €30 postage only catch is to buy a suitable xeon chip and all the rams that suitable for it by the time if I do buy it it going to cost me upward of €600 or more due to the ram pricing about €45 per 16gb not too sure about the speed as some are not listing it. Even had a look at crucial memory they listed per of two memory sticks of 32gb 3200 crucial pro (desktop non ECC) starting price from €112 upward without including postage and tax jeez if I was to buy 4 set of two memory each that going to cost me upward €500 or more just for the memory sticks alone.

Not to mention the heatsink I have is Noctua C12P-SE14 as it only fit to 1150 socket not 2011v3. I have sent a email to Noctua to see if there is a mounting kit available for the heatsink in question to fit 2011v3 as I like the look of the heatsink and keep it as long as possible

As a request requirements from Noctua asked me to provide pictures of the heatsink I have currently which lucky enough I uploaded these on this forum the ones that I showed that was damaged from mositure and discolouration and the others I cleaned up. Just hoping Noctua don't freak out when they see the pictures.

Yeah a mounting kit from them depending on the motherboard and specific Noctua cooler which they have the compatibility list that covers new and discontinued heatsinks which I was lucky enough that the C12P-SE14 can work on Asus x99 boards that have 2011v3 mounting brackets using nm-i20xx mounting kit I think so yeah a small step toward upgrading the system whenever I get a chance

Only downside is having to reconfigure the operating system without a possibility of reinstalling everything. So best plan is clone the drive before I tackle it

As I have alot of softwares on the drive that is tweaked in some way while using process lasso software to control the system as it works on the fly as well controls what cores can be given to per software including power management like example the whole operating system is in power save state but certain software or games is given a higher performance state once the system comes out of that it goes back to power save regardless. Another thing is handy with process lasso I can disable/limit certain cores and/or threads/hyper threads per game/software configuration on the fly without rebooting the system. That why I don't want to go the long route of reinstalling.

Second thing is when changing the boards windows 10 needs to be reactivated again along with stripping the drivers out from the operating system before the new board as it booting from Marvell controller on the asus p6x58d-e

No not more work it all about controlling the system for a specific reason. As I don't specifically like the window 10 power management which lacks alot of things except one option that I can limit the frequency per power state in it as that is one useful feature in itself while the rest is garbage. No point leaving the system going flat out while in idle state. Some people don't like the system controlling them when it suppose to be the other way round. To me I find it easier to control the system the way I want it by using process lasso. There is informations online stating process lasso fixed stuttering in games by changing some settings for the game in question.

My method is to overclock the rest of the system but control the cpu using process lasso as a example therefore it done automatically per configuration as well change the priorities on I/0, Memory management and other things per software/games. With this method I can get the system to mimic the behaviour of a 100% stock cpu base frequency with/without turbo while the rest of the system is overclocked just to find where it can bottleneck or stability issue

Yeah I also leaning toward that is possible it's just that 64Gb modules didn't exist back in the "X99 prime" days and almost all X99 motherboards are certified to work up to 128-256Gb(only)officially so yeah I am kinda curious if someone in here try and test that personally.....

Recently I got 64GB G.Skill RAM for my E5-2699V3 & Rampage V Extreme setup. I managed to lower the timings to 5-9-7-10-1T which was benchmark stable in Cinebench R15. Has anyone else ever managed to get DDR4 to such low DDR2-level timings?
