Suggestions only based on more than a few hours inside the game.

Tents and High Tech DLC will be appreciated the most. ATV cuts time defogging maps and useful later if you grind.
Maps: Yukon (no weapon packs required after). Avoid New England and Mississippi.
All other: Modern Weapon or Power Pack remove need to level up. Yukon weapon = in game currency + levelling up.
Take LOD setting as high as possible then balance other settings.

Still I'm not sure if I should be happy with this purchase.
For example, I've got some quests over for dinner and out of respect of their lifestyle I give in to some vegan food .

Right after dinner, I'll say; come let's play a game on the PC. We're gonna blast Bambi out of woods with all means necessary

Your party, your rules! Equip only binoculars and it becomes a nature walking sim.

I still get a laugh out of how aggressively a dedicated mountain climbing game got pushed based on how I spent my first hours in COTW.

I am on Vacation until Dec 28th. I was going ot buy Forza 8 on Steam but the MS can kiss my %^$% with their pricing. One of the beautiful things about Steam is Wishlist reminders. I remember watching a live stream of this on preview. Well it's 60% off on Steam and that sounds pretty spectacular to me.

Mostly I buy Steam versions of old games I've already played to hell, but recently I bought a few games that I am liking:

Plan B: Terraform
A strategy game where you are given a futuristic 2040s technology world and an empty Mars-like planet, to develop 3 cities on. Your goal is to get to a population of 1 million globally.

Let's School
A strategy game (I like playing them more than others) where you are put in charge of your old school and your job is to make it the best school in the state. The developers are Japanese, and so is the theme of the school you inherit.

Exo One
If going fast and looking at good scenery is your thing, this is the game, even though it is short and not very difficult. You can get through it in a couple of hours.
You are given a craft that you have some unique way of piloting (won't spoil it here) that you use to get to your destination. It's possible to go as fast or faster than the speed of sound.

Mad Max
Post-apocalyptic car combat game (mostly car combat, but you could fight as a person if you wanted to). You lose your car in the beginning, but are able to acquire a new one and build it to be a monster.

Transport Fever 2
The game is about building a transport ecosystem (not a company-builder). I like trains so I bought this.

That's a very good one. There is a lot of in-person fighting too, but the car combat is excellent.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I paid full retail ($70), the first game I've paid full price for well over a decade.

I recently bought Icarus on Steam and that's where all my gaming time lately has been spent.

2 modes, one is missions the other is an open world survival craft game. Is playable with one player, you actually have an entire level up menu just for solo mode. Like minecraft there seems to be no real point to open world mode besides surviving only in a hostile environment where the air is toxic and you have to make your own O2 to survive.

If you buy it and don't want to be punished by the game as you level up go for the easy part of the map because there are no bears on the easy landing area which makes it a lot easier to progress to a point where you can kill bears without having to deal with bears all the time.

If you want to level up fast make a garden you get a ton of xp for harvesting a decent size garden. Plant corn to feed your mount when you get one and coffee so you can make coffee and survive in the winter biome. Bacon gives you extra xp gain (get from boars). Level cap is 60, you stop getting yellow skill tree points and only get blueprint points after lv 60.

Escape from butcher bay is pretty good, not ttried dark athena though.
