Dell latitude 5400 and got for only 88 bucks! has all parts, upgraded screen ,etc it's only got 8GB RAM but I bought another 8GB stick so should get that soon!

ebay auction!! it's in great shape w excellent battery health too only ding is a lil paint peeling on the power button and 2 minor white spots on the display! Other than that it's in great shape no marks... almost new

one thing is it's not charging past 79% it might need recalibrated or something... althought I will get a usb-c charger soon cuz apperantly it does have usb-c charging!

I'm not sure if Windows laptops do this, but my Mac will only charge to 70-80% when it's mainly run on AC power. It's supposed to extend the life of the battery. However you can normally override it and tell it to charge to full if you know that you're going to be traveling with it or something.

Bios was set to 90 so I dunno why it stopped at 79...

Unless the battery was upgraded from 3 cell to 4 cell and it wasn't calibrated

Maybe the BIOS is just finicky. Have you tried setting it to 100% and seeing if it bypasses the partial charge mode? You shouldn't have to calibrate it, that should happen automatically when you charge to 100%, then drain to just about "empty." Most modern systems, at least in Linux and MacOS automatically do this for you.

yeah I did that and discharged to like 50 some % and left it overnight I'll see when I use that system again...

Update on the 4TB MP34 I got a little over a week ago.

I went to copy about 17GB of data from the drive over to my server (connected over a 10Gb link) and saw only about 200MB/s. That seemed weird, as it was 17GB of archive files.

So I went ahead and copied the data to my boot drive, and I saw the same speeds. Copying it from my boot drive, the speed fluctuated between 400 and 800MB/s. That's more in line with what I expect from my server.

I ran some more tests by copying large files to my boot drive from the MP34, and...

That's... really bad for an NVMe SSD. Slow write speeds are one thing, but slow reads? This is a single 14GB .tar file.

For comparison, here's a 14GB archive being copied from a WD SN570 in a USB enclosure to my boot drive over USB 3.2...

That's a backup of my Steam copy; don't worry.

I've monitored the drive while playing games, and the read speeds never seemed to go above 300MB/s, but I figured maybe games didn't need all that bandwidth.

It's really weird; this drive is like the opposite of that QLC one I had a while ago. This one does great on sustained writes, and fails miserably at sustained reads.

I guess my hatred of QLC NAND may be slightly misguided, though I'm not sure the NAND (128-layer Hynix V6) is at fault here. I had the drive spit out a bunch of WHEA errors and soft-lock my system yesterday, so I wonder if the Realtek controller is just garbage.

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll be returning this drive and once again going back to my sketchy RAID-0 array.

I really wish the SSD industry wasn't a steaming pile of garbage.

Now I just gotta wait for SSD prices to return to sane levels and get another 4TB drive to be disappointed with.

EDIT: Of course, now that I'm copying the changes to the RAID array, I'm seeing up to 700MB/s. Maybe I scared it?

Had the same issue on a Silicon Power SATA SSD (don't remember the exact model). At least it didn't die. Served 4.5 years before ultimately being sold in 2020 to some guy who is known to report if anything I sold him died. Never reported.

I found a 12-0-12 toroid to try the pre amp i bought using my little old York power amp. It sounds really nice and crisp. I do have a 26-0-26 bigger toroid transformer to try the power amp board, which i will do on monday. Then i need to figure out a case, and some form of input switching setup/board. I wouldn't mind combining it with my topping DAC and having that inside with the amp with the DACs display on the front.

TempoTec Sonata BHD USB DAC/amp. 280mW @ 32ohms isn't a lot, but plenty for most things, certainly just about any IEM. Will probably live in my purse. $40 shipped, 3 gain levels, came with a short C to C and C to lightning cable, along with a small C to A adapter.

Finally pulled the trigger on VR for DCS, had to buy from Newegg as the only place other than Amazon that actually has an applicable return policy.

I guess the big OLED screen will have to wait.

isn't the Meta Quest 3 a standalone HMD? since it's using a Snapdragon SOC, i thought it would be like that? ...
also can it be wired?

i am still using Medion Eraser Window HMD atm, but i feel VR is a fade that has passed away, it was fun in the beginning but did not bring much in the end...

after doing some search, it seems for DCS it's quite good... but i still thinks it's a bit overpriced about 1.5time what i paid for my window MR HMD which is seemingly being phased out (still work in STEAM VR tho, for compatible titles )

edit: 1hr battery??? ouch ...

Not using airlink. Battery should be fine wired. $650 is CAD, not USD.

Reverb G2 has been the standard recommendation for a long time. Quest 3 is pretty comparable to Reverb G2 in image quality (minus drawbacks of Reverb's lenses), so being at a slightly lower price than the G2 was (~$700cad), there really aren't other options if one isn't in the price segment of the Varjo Aero or Pimax ($1000usd+). The other options are not really viable even if they are cheaper, image quality is significantly worse than G2 (Quest 2, Valve Index). From the resolution specs of the Medion I'd expect it to fall into the same category as Quest 2.
