I use it and still don't hit the thermal limit. Water coolers are for Intel clowns.

Only reasons it behaves that way are:
  1. 5800X3D doesn't behave like any other Zen 3, and is limited to a low 4450 multiplier regardless of what you do, is not a good demonstrator of Zen 3 scaling
  2. AMD Precision Boost by default handholds and stops you from burning your CPU in perceived power virus workloads like P95 Small FFT and Linpack
Take the chains off a 12- or 16-core and run it through Linpack to get the real experience.

I'm manually OCed. Yeah, it's power limited, but I can OC regular zen 3 heavily and they run cooler, of course.
It's just hard to use enough power unless you have 16 core. Big tower coolers are very effective.

Manually OC'd? BCLK?
Yeah, I'm not a noob. I'm 39 and been doing PC builds since 12. It's definitely trickier on x370 to be stable, but with proper testing, it's doable.

Chill out lol I didn't say you were one

Assuming that takes you up to 4.5-4.6, my point still stands, really doesn't change where the 5800X3D stands. Linpack does some wild things to PBO 12- and 16-cores.

Does a self respecting "OCer" use PBO lol
For some reason it's not 4.7. it says 4.64...I haven't bothered to keep pushing bclk. Testing was tiresome for 100% stability.

What kind of statement is this? Just because 5800X3D is hardlocked out of most PBO functionality doesn't mean it isn't the preferred method for OC for Ryzens within Fmax+200 limits? BCLK is still just sitting on top of existing PB/PBO behaviour.

Personally I'd say that manual OC these days is long gone and forgotten. PBO gives the best overall performance.

And I say this as someone who has hella lot experience of OC'ing older hardware but we can't have nice things forever :/

Another way to look at it is that in the past chips were sandbagged for obvious product staggering reasons, money. It was the keen oc'er that knew they could get the cheaper chip and clock it to cross the gap to the more expensive chip.

But today the chips are taken right to the edge and thus there's not really a whole left over. OC'ing manually when the gap to voltage inefficiency is just around the corner and with the efficiency and speed of ramping weighed vs overall TDP, there's not a whole lot to be gained.

PBO is good for a 30 second fix, but c'mon. There's no replacement for actual tinkering. There's no satisfaction with automatic tweaks.
And I demand satisfaction XD

Go get a 3930K, that was last chip that was actually fun to OC and hit 5ghz or more. It's all been downhill from then on.

I don't know what you think PBO is, but any change to power limits falls under PBO. Any OC short of setting a static freq/Vcore is still PB/PBO. Unless you are running fixed 4.7@1.35V, you are still running your CPU on PB/PBO.

Boost override and any curve optimizer still fall under PBO. What you're referring to is PBO under strictly board Auto settings.

Yes, I don't use PBO on nonX3D. It's useless to me in a scenario without this 110W limit. It's only enabled on mine for CO, since I need to shave power down to prevent down clocking.
If x3D was actually unlocked, then there's no need to rely on software baloney.

If you tune PBO properly, you can get it to do 4500MHz on the heaviest loads, like Linpack. For light stuff I would see ~4600MHz with F@H/WCG and multicore boosts to 5150 for games and stuff like Pi32M.

You don't really get far with static clocks on AM4..

I got a meh 5700 nonX to 4.8 with 24/7 safe V. Only one core was weak. The rest seemed to do 5.0. But, yeah, too bad gains aren't that of pre zen.
Heavy games do a little better with the all core OC, so that's what I use.

What do you mean?

I went from a 3600XT to a 5600X and it was a night and day difference, Zen 2 is slow.

I mean pre zen OC ability. Intel was already waning hard with the 3570k and up. If you didn't have a good chip, you weren't seeing 4.5+ on Intel.

Now, the socket 370 Celeron days.... *Sploosh*

Linpack runs cooler on my system than Cinebench does, despite using more power, for some mysterious reason.

It isn't because Cinibench is heavier, that's for sure. Something else is going on. If I had your system I would find out for you :)

Cinebench doesn't load all parts of a core equally. Could be a density thing.

Might have something to do with PBO Scalar X1-X10 setting.
