I dont think he did to bad with that trade. I mean, same performance really, and now he gets to use the new version of "my graphics card is cheap or old" I mean. DLSS... << just for fun comment.

but really, if selling his old card paid for his new card and the the performance is roughly the same? Yes, he is out some VRAM, but he is also playing at 1080p, so it doesnt matter anyway.

Sounds like you haven't actually undervolted it, but rather just reduced the power target.

1880 mhz @ 900 mv uses significantly less power than stock.
Once again, depending on the load. And no, I'm not reducing power target, I'm running 1815 @ 850 mV.

Sounds crazy to me that you would only see a 10w reduction at 850 mv.

Run Heaven with tessellation on and off and compare power usage and clocks. Also, get a 144+ Hz display.

Right, so the only place you get that result is in an old synthetic benchmarks, which uses stupid high levels of tesselation. And cute that a guy with old hardware attempts to flame my setup. I game on my tv, a samsung qn900c.

Tessellation isn't only used in benchmarks and you were the one criticizing someone for switching to new generation with lower power draw and then jumps at me with "old hardware" bs.

I know the games I play and the power draw they generate, or do you want screenshots from the game that will show you frequency, voltage and power draw?

It isn't, but the levels it's used at in heaven vastly exceeds its application in any game.

I criticized the decision to go from the top tier card of the previous gen with 24gb vram to a midrange current gen gpu with 12gb vram, which is an outright downgrade, especially long term. You on the other hand decided to just send a (weak) jab at my setup out of nowhere, to which i responded.

Sure - have the game running in windowed mode with hwinfo64 open and running.

Another day, another nail polish reason.

IMG_20240319_144316.jpg

Also kudos to Sapphire for that beautiful engineering of the separate VRAM cooling plate, it means much to the people that teardown their hardware on the regular basis.
Also handy because they did put a bare copper plate on the heatsink. I wonder how pure it is, and how much of an LM it will absorb.

IMG_20240319_161204.jpg

Leaving it alone for a couple of weeks.

Maybe not the prettiest loop but I finally got a custom loop on the mATX Define.

And I see that kink near the 120 rad; doesn't affect performance (at least not much). CPU & GPU hotspot still under 80C in TimeSpy. And that fitting is supporting that 120mm fan which blows some air to the VRM/VRAM. :D

Everything was fine until you mentioned the kink.

Why'd you mention the kink?
Nobody was thinking about a kink before.
Now it's kink central, front and center.
This is a preemptive, unsanctioned kink.

I too like to shove dual rad loops in cases that are bit small for it.

One rad wouldn't probably just been enough for CPU+GPU loop so better safe than sorry.. your 4000D is way easier to work with, I've had dual 240 rad loop on such case as it currently houses my ATX 2nd rig.

Some rework with the tubing and the kink is gone. The temps stayed practically the same.

Swapped the vacuum box's internals once again. Now for an inaudible rock stable config with a Xeon E3 1241v3 and a GA-Z87X-UD5H. Changed all the MoBo pads while I was at it. Improved the 212 EVO performance & noise with a pair of P12 PWM PSTs. The main reason is that the G1.Assassin 2 & 3930K I fired up, after around a year just sitting there, is not seing a damn RAM channel D, again. I thought I fixed that long time ago, well... That was kinda the last straw with this junk tier board.
Also finished with the LM application on a 5700XT.
IMG_20240330_131231.jpg

Took one of my mice apart and cleaned everything with an isopropyl alc. Scrubbed off a disgusting anti-slip layer from this part.
IMG_20240330_142742.jpg

Now it's like new again and much easier to clean.
IMG_20240330_152633.jpgIMG_20240330_152902.jpg

And now, since I have a GPU in x8 PCIe 3.0 mode, because of the NVMe adapter card in a x4 slot, it will be interesting to see is there any difference compared to the x16 mode. CPU is a bottleneck with its 3.9GHz single, and 3.7GHz all core turbo. But it's not really much behind if any, from a 3930K at 4.5GHz. Depends on a game engine if properly utilizing >4 cores.
I guess I'm done with an X79 platform until some spare funds for a decent board (sabertooth) and an E5 1680v2, if ever TBH. I could just get a new mobo and a RAM for my spare R5 3600 for the same money, and it would murder all of them in gaming workloads.

Those 3 red lights give me anxiety. The yellow/orange mobo power button isn't a problem really. The case power button have no lighting for ~5 years already, just as the storage activity led. Cold white straight in your face they were, had to go.

So, the mouse wheel red led will be unplugged, the debug codes will be taped over, and the keyboard right ctrl led taped over as well. The kb bugged that one in its internal memory somehow, and the software won't help with it.

Edit:
Found some surplus parts. :p

Much better. Power button got a tape too. :pimp:

I lucked out on FB Marketplace and was able to snatch a XFX Merc 6900XT Limited Black!

Its a decent upgrade from my reference RX 6800 and certainly a lot bigger too. Definitely the most beautiful card I've owned so far.
