so, for my nephew build ... slowly gathering the hardware ...
ok, stickers? well

i find them fitting since he learn programing and other related stuff ... but ~200 stickers are a bit too much, i will keep some for me

and to reach the free shipping thershold i decided to get a POS smartwatch ... (well stickers at max 1$ a pack ... do not reach a 9$ free shipping thershold hehe :D )

not so POS in the end ... i like it, as a backup to my T-Rex 2 ... HR/SpO2 and even blood pressure are measured quite accurately compared to dedicated measuring aparatus (+/-2-5% which is not bad at all) sleep monitoring too ... only cons would be : IP67 (but it has microphone and speaker, which explain the rating and can act as a handsfree device) and only 2 buttons on the right side (tho even if my T-Rex 2 has 4 buttons i only really use 2... the one on the right side  ) ah and the seller : "Zinc Alloy MIL-STD 810H watch" ... aherm ... respectfully "my shinny bottom!" i saw youtuber/reviewer featuring that KR80 watch in durability test, well, it can take a beating but nah it's probably not MIL-STD certified (and plastic built not zinc alloy) nonetheless for 20chf ..., if it does not suffer the 1* reviews dreaded "do not work anymore" or "screen got artifacting" in the next 2 months ... i'm ok with it ...

i had the Switch version wishlisted since quite a while (well, it's the game that almost made me buy a Switch lite  ) ... but i did not know it was on STEAM  now i know and 23chf, for a game based of one of my favorite manga? ohhhhh...

More bits & bobs from Aliexpress. So far, no major disappointments, only annoyances. The USB Hub as a power plug, but the manufacturer didn't provide any information on what type of charger it uses. The USB WiFi works fine in windows, but the OSX support stopped at 10.6.8. I'll need to hunt down the newer drivers this weekend.

Got my retro PC up and running after a while the way that I want by running the program under Windows. I was moving a bunch of stuff around and found that I could use a little bit more space. I looked and actually got this for $129 just last week. PC parts prices are all over the place these days.

Picked up a second monitor. I tried to find the same model as the one I had, but it didn't go well (see spoiler) so I opted for a newer model that is nearly identical. My first monitor (one on the right in the picture) is a Dell 32" 2560x1440 165Hz - model# S3220DG. The new one is a Dell 32" 2560"x1440 165Hz - model# S3222DG. They're nearly identical, slight firmware differences and so on. Going by just physical appearances they look the same aside from the stand base.

I've been wanting to get a second S3220DG monitor for a while, but when I got the first one it was a Black Friday deal and it only cost around $275 (if memory serves me right), down from around $400ish. It was an awesome upgrade from the 3 - 24" 1080p monitors I had been running. I didn't have the funds for two of them, even during the Black Friday sale at the time so I figured over time I'd save up. As time went on things never lined up and the monitor hit production EOL and any new models I was finding by then were $450+ and used were usually $350+. I didn't want to hassle with used because then I'd be reliant on another person properly packing and shipping the monitor to me and I didn't want to take that chance.

About 2 weeks ago I was putting around and searching up my S3220DG monitor model and came across Best Buy selling a refurbished model for just over $200. I figured give it a try. I had the monitor shipped to a nearby store location for pickup. If anything was wrong with it I could just return it - no harm, no foul. 4 days ago I got an update that the monitor was available for pickup. I stopped by Best Buy after work on Friday and as I'm standing at the counter for online pickups, I'm scanning all the boxes back there and my eyes immediately gravitate to a plain looking cardboard box that resembles the size/shape of what the 32" monitor could be in. I'm eyeing the box and it looks brutal, like Ace Ventura had just gotten done delivering the package himself. I know my luck, I know that that box is housing the monitor I'm looking to pickup. It's over tapped, looks like it's been banged around, box is torn a little on one corner....this isn't promising.

The guy helping me starts looking over all the boxes for my package and he passes the beat to hell box and for just that split second I'm thinking, "Yeah! That's not my box!", but he comes back to it and picks it up and sets it on the counter. Shit! It is my box.

As he scans the box in and finalizes the transaction I'm opening the box on the spot. As I open the box the package of this monitor is outright atrocious. There is bubble wrap that has been delicately placed over the screen of the monitor and that is it. The stand for the monitor is loose in the box, so it has been sliding and banging around the box during shipping and there was zero packaging material to protect any other parts of the screen. As I look the corners of the monitor they have clearly been introduced to the concrete or very hard surfaces because they are cracked/smashed and the screen itself has just been obliterated. There was nothing saving this monitor, sadly. I looked at the guy and told him to return it, it's damaged and he's like, "Oh, it's broken? Where?" I had to actually point out the damaged spots on the screen to him, they weren't incon-fucking-spicuous, they stood out like a sore thumb. So the guy refunds my purchase and I leave empty handed. Damn. I figured that this would be the case, the monitor would come in damaged, especially from reading the reviews of everyone else purchasing the refurbished monitors and having them shipped to their homes. I thought maybe, just maybe if I had it shipped to a store location it might show up unscathed, but that didn't happen.

I got home and started poking around again, but any other same models I came across were used and I wasn't going to go through the whole shipping issue again. So I started looking at other monitors that are similar to mine and that's when I came across Dell's model# S3222DG. It is the same as the S3220DG, just newer with a few slight variations. And look at that, the Best Buy where I tried to get the refurbished monitor from had 2 of these newer models in stock and they're only about $40 more than the refurbished one I tried to get. I could have gotten one of the open box ones they had, but I'm not taking any chances so NEW it was. I place the order and stopped in the next day to pick it up and aside from the brightness being a bit lower than the S32220DG and there being a touch more red tint in the overall color. Some messing around with settings I've gotten the image on both monitors to almost match, they're close enough that you wouldn't notice unless you're specifically looking for discrepancies.
monitors.jpg

The only thing I hate about the new one is the button placement for accessing the menu inputs, they're not conveniently located by the power button on the bottom right corner. They are located on the back of the monitor on the lower right side. It's a pain in the ass to reach with the other monitor next to it. The menu buttons on the older model are right at the bottom right corner of the monitor, next to the power button - very conveniently located and simple to use.

2560 x 1440 is a very nice resolution although I run it on a 21.5" screen.

Very nice indeed. I also like the fact I can run the monitor at 60/120/165Hz, depending on my preferences. I have them set to 120.

Wife came into the office after I setup the second monitor and she made an annoying quip about it, "What do you need a second monitor for? Seems like a waste to me."

Pfff....What does she know? We all know we need a second monitor just because we need a second monitor.

Two days later she's in the office doing some of her freelance work, she's got 5 different windows and tabs open up across both monitors and I asked her, "What do you need a second monitor for? Seems like a waste to me." and I walked out before she could give me some snide remark or give me that look that says "you're such an ass".

Through experience, I no longer buy "parkside" bargains. They just aren't worth the time lost to find receipt, return and replace. My advice: don't impulse buy in the supermarket. If you see something that takes your fancy, go home and google/amazon product and then buy a more expensive better quality version. And if that seems like too much time and money, then you didn't need the gadget anyway.

got a really decent deal on a Ryzen 5600G for $95 brand new, and MSI refurbed my Mobo so both nvme drives are now working. this is going to be my little rig to enjoy older games on for awhile until I do my next main build in 18-24 months. I will be keeping this rig forever though so I always have something to fall back on in-case something dies on me, etc.

first game I am going to play on it is dragon age origins, which I keep telling myself I will finally play start to finish, but never do. going to really try to do it this time though. also it's really impressive to me how old games like this run just fine on an APU

& then you manage to rest everything on the "power inlets on GPU"...do you even know how wrong this is? o_O:confused:

(just saying for your own good)
So? I checked it before installing, and checked afterwards for damages.

Edit
Anyway, for the Asus B650E-E I got another SSD and some memory. Not the fastest but more than enough.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
now, the mobo and win11 license and i can put that rig together ...

decided for a Fractal Focus G Mini this time

32gb RAM (i keep with the Aegis, quite good ) and graphic card, shoehorned in the budget ... too bad the XT was not lower priced  but for 1080p and Linux: it will be fine
20240321_181312.jpg20240321_181250.jpg

to go alongside the 1tb Gammix S11 and another 1tb NVMe (if i find it  ) even if it's a cheap of the cheap SSD, it will be ok for the usage scenario (TLC with DRAM)
and now i see why it was a cheap 5700X... it's a "tray" CPU repackaged (inspected the pins and they are just as pristine as the IHS is )
20240321_181341.jpg20240321_181436.jpg

and off course for me ... ok ... the headset is ... errrr ... so-so
20240321_181454.jpg20240321_181511.jpg

but the player itself give a good (nostalgic) feeling, the plastic is not flexing and the buttons have the same old school feeling as the Walkman i had in the 80s-90s ... now i just need some tapes (ordered a few, which will come later ) and ROCK ON!

i love the transparent case and the added "modernisme" aka: bluetooth capable :D

My Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset finally died after 8 yrs of faithful service, but only due to the ear pads falling apart.
So went with Audio Technica AD500X open air headphones. I love the big cups over the ears, can wear them for hrs with specs on. :) Sound quality is awesome for a 2 driver system as well! the sensitivity is just great, have to lower the volume in windows down to 45 & they are just right. My Asus sound card does great job of driving them with no headphone amp necessary.

You wanna know about inflation? these put me back $139 when ordered last week including shipping, but today they now $199.00!

Decided I wanted to try something new and odd. And to replace the Glorious gmmk which was a massive letdown. Insert the Epomaker TH80 SE with the Flamingo switches. The keycaps are narrowly shaped which something new for me and the location of the delete key is sub-optimal but I guess I'll get used to both.
It has wireless, bt, and wired mode but for now I'll only use wired. Oh, and I'm used to typing on Cherry reds and silver (silent) and this one is very audible. Other than that I'm pleased.

Edit 2: switched a few caps to Pudding

USB voltmeter thingamajig.
my car's android auto headunit is having trouble keeping my s22 charged. well what would you know, the chinese extension(not cheap!) i bought has a huge voltage drop. (drops to around 4.7volts) so even the 1amp its providing isn't enough :(

5700G for my virtualization server.
Currently it has no GPU, downgrading from my 3900X to the 5700G for display output.

Cant complain for $169

nice!!

Is it so hard for AMD to just print or slap on a sticker on the front showing the SKU stats. I had to look twice to figure out its an APU
