I blame online stores, and our own, lazy, fat asses for that. It's sooo much more convenient to buy games without having to leave the house... until the internet is down, or the online store goes defunct.
Well I think with Ubisoft amazing new attitude, I think people may start second guessing on purchasing digital games as much now.
I have mentioned it in a different thread or have not but it is inevitable as I had games removed from my library out of nowhere because of some license agreement expired or something.
I had Mafia 2 removed from my steam library, then brought back after they re-released the definitive edition.

Maybe people will start looking at purchasing physical games again if things doesn't change for consumers, I think for Game to maybe do better in-store is offer better incentives than their web-store.
But that isn't going to happen when a lot of them have got shoved inside a sports direct now.

Look at high end iphones, they buy low then make a crap ton of profit.
i mean look at this, £450 profit. They could just buy for higher price, giving the seller a better price and still make a nice profit, but they rather make nearly 100%

I knew you were only renting your games on Steam with an infinite usage time, but to have them removed? That's unheard of. :(

I was mad enough to turn into a Karen and leave an angry yelp review about my CeX experience and this was the response I got.

Basically a whole lot of nothing. Brushed it all off. "However, considering the nature of the product, we use suitable packaging material to avoid any damage in transit...." - Lets dump something that is very sensitive to electrostatic discharge in something that creates a lot of electrostatic discharge.

I wasnt told that they had to test the returned item. Just that they had to contact the store that sent it out. The bag it had arrived it was still sealed as I hadnt opened it up to see if it would fit in my laptop. If the ram was DoA when I arrived at the store. it wasnt because of me.

Never buy any hardware from them online. If you see what you want in-store then thats a completely different situation.

Anyway. My laptop ram just arrived.

Someone prove me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling "the customer is always right" is dead.
Not just with CeX, but I tend to frequently encounter the "I have this problem" - "that's a you problem because our company is perfect" attitude with other companies, too.

in USA I have a MicroCenter near me, and they are very much customer oriented, I have dealt with them in person a few times now and honestly every time has been gold, instant refund, and their tech support team even showed me in person how to fix a keyboard key once. kind of neat. I am very thankful to live near a MicroCenter, I will be giving them all my business for my next build. I recently bought a $99 MSI 180hz 1080p 23" monitor from them too, simply because the price is just so good, another awesome reason to keep giving them all my business. :)

*I have no need for the monitor, its just a emergency backup. :)

Best Buy in USA is also not that bad, I dealt with them a few times. but yeah everyone else I avoid like the plague. UK just needs MicroCenter to expand there lol

I wish I lived near a Microcenter! I'm drooling every time I see one of their ads on Youtube.

Or at least near Scan UK's store, which in my opinion, is the single best PC store in the UK. Their customer service is also top notch, refunds are instantaneous, etc.
Their only downside is that the only RAM they sell is Corsair.

I think the big difference here is that MicroCenter is run and staffed mainly by computer people (at least I assume it is from the stories ive heard). People from the days of radioshack and enthusiasts that like to tinker with stuff so they know what they are looking at to some degree.

CeX is a completely different beast to MicroCenter when it comes to staffing. How I wish we had one of those here as well as Goodwill computer store. I would be forever buying stuff to put machines together and donating them to schools and other charities that couldnt afford a good working computer for office stuff and for kids to learn on.

There was a time when a lot of branches (CeX) was staffed by computer nerds and console junkies but those days are way long gone.

I think it's way worse than that. Building my own home was on my bucket list, but after covid, prices are still ludicrous for basic building materials (among many other items). Before covid a bag of firbreglass insulation was $30CAD now it's $90.............owens corning basically has a monopoly on this (I think scrap glass is $0.10/lb). Lumber is 250% more than it was pre-covid and that's here in Canada!!

So not only too bad about "customer is always right" but also "let's bend them over for 200% to 600% more than pre-covid prices"

yep I gave up my dreams of owning a home or getting on my own too. I'm going to try talking my parents into letting me build a "tiny home" in our backyard, we have a very big backyard, it should be fairly easy to do. property tax will probably go up some, meh.

inflation, yet at the same time these companies have record profits. what a fucking scam this world is.

yeppers

owens cornings profits correlates perfectly with the price increases on fibreglass insulation
forever to 2015 ish status quo, then jack the price, then covid - then too bad for you suckas and laugh all the way to the corp bank

hurts the small guy and the economy and housing/homes availability...............a lot less new homes going up compared to 10 years ago!!

Probably the right move... just before the pandemic i swapped our variable interest-only mortgage to a repayment plan with a healthy cash forecast for some sizeable monthly savings. The pandemic inflation scheming and corporate profiteering interest spike turned all of that on its head. I was compelled to re-evaluate everything! Incl. not buying Nvidias 40-series (lol i had to throw that one in).

TBH, since the pandemic i've become x3 more financially prudent, finally paying greater attention to managing money more wisely. Sometimes our spending habits and irresponsibility of extravagance resembles self-inflicted inflation. That's the monster we need to fight first... kill the YOLO!!

I have been watching a lot of tiny home videos on youtube lately, I think I am going to enjoy it really. I kind of like feeling cozy, plus it will cheap for me to heat and cool.

I will make sure if I do build one to have one of those 2 in 1 heater and air con things built into the wall. my cousin is an electrician, so he might help me with that part for a discount I hope. I'm going to try to do all the labor myself and just take it nice and slow. parents got to say yes first though. heh

Scan and overclockers are probably the only 2 comp stores that are ran by comp people.
Big chains like Currys are just ran by ordinary sales people just making a living as any other person.
Cex is now a mismatched of gamers and again just ordinary people getting a paycheck.
I actually encountered 2 nice sales person from game recently and just makes me wish I had the time to go to their stores more.
But I just don't have the time like I used to and I don't play on consoles often anymore to justify buying physical copies.
Unless it's an console exclusive and it's on the way wherever I'm going.

You might want to check the history of the modern olympics (introduced in Paris last century).

For the first four decades of competition, the Olympics awarded official medals for painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and music, alongside those for the athletic competitions. From 1912 to 1952, juries awarded a total of 151 medals to original works in the fine arts inspired by athletic endeavors. Now, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the first artistic competition, even Olympics fanatics are unaware that arts, along with athletics, were a part of the modern Games nearly from the start.

I still will never accept dancing is a sport. Any olympic event should be a feat of human strength or endurance, and some of these new "sports" are neither of them. It's getting stupid. Next we'll have jenga as a olympic sport.

I'll admit I did watch a bit in my younger years but its not quite what it used to be.

We got the IOC banning and messing with Russia for doping but we now have men taking part in women's sports :peace:

Let Russia be Russia. The whole thing has become a bit of a clown show anyway. At least we can all sit back and have a laugh at it.

Not for much longer, i'm sure there is going to be a special catergorie for men..women...them.

I have to agree though that they should not be allowed to compete in womens events as they are not women.

Anyway. Enough about that before we get smacked down by the TPU gods.

I see the Olympics pretty much like Eurovision or any other awards show of late. Not worth watching.

In my opinion, "sport" means a quantifiable achievement. Something where you compete with seconds, points, frags, Gigahertz, or whatever. You can't put a number on a dance objectively, therefore, it's not a sport. Just my opinion.

Agreed. It's better to watch individual sports that you like instead of these collective things.

I don't watch any sports, my relatives in England often try to get me to watch soccer, yeah I said it, and I find it boring just like all the others. Bunch of overpaid wanks if you ask me (all sports, not just soccer)

Anyways, back to my beans and toast, while the rich buy another yacht. Cause yay, humans, or something

My favorite Olympic 'sport' is Curling. It's fun to see if I can keep pace with the 'athlete's' beer drinking during the competition. :D

I don't like the sport prejudice with olympics. They just refuse to add "online running" to the list of sporting events. I do hundreds of miles whilst strapped with weighty gear in those gigantic online multiplayer maps. That too whilst having bullets whizzing through the air, explosives thrown in my path, vehicles trying to run you over and whatnot. WE DESERVE RECOGNITION!!
