4.5GHz vs 4.8GHz all core can be a difference due to the type of load. The processor wont have the same clocks in Cinebench vs. Linpack or yCruncher for ex.

It works much the same way as to Fmax so yes, the more the better. Fmax is 5050 now

You have access to the expanded CO envelope down to -50. I run -35 though, -45 is doable for benches but not stable. -50 daily stable would be impressive.

Hold on...didn't you have a 12600K?

refunded 12600k because this deal was too good to pass up.

I set mine to -30 offset in PBO. It let my all-core effective clock boost as high as 4.8Ghz (up from an average of 4.5Ghz).

I will do -30 thanks

The default TDP for the 7800X3D as far as I know is 120W according to AMD's own website: https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/desktops/ryzen/7000-series/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d.html
While we know Intel's shenanigans AMD is doing its share of... stuff with TDPs as well. 7900X and 7950X have stated TDP of 170W and power limits at 230W, 105W TDP Ryzens have power limit of 140W and 65W Ryzens have 88W. Yes-yes, the official word on that brings in a nice complex formula dealing with cooler efficiency and a bunch of parameters but that is just obfuscation.

TDP for 7800X3D is stated to be 120W. Its power limit is at 76W. Basically all X3D models are special in a way that they are rather "unhungry". Apparently because the cache dies or the way they are put together does not like high voltages-heat.

Edit:
In light of the recent Intel stability news, has anyone encountered the same "out of VRAM" errors with Unreal Engine games with tweaked Ryzens? I was seeing those and after the news broke on CPU stability being the cause changed the CO from -30 to -15 on my 7800X3D and while I have not had much time to play since then I have not yet encountered the same errors while these were rather common before.

so you use -15 on your 7800x3d and not -30? do you recommend a new 7800x3d owner use -15 over -30?

Every individual CPU (and core) will have a different threshold for a negative CO. Some good samples may work great at -40 and others may not make it past -15. It’s always best to do per core to find the best possible undervolt for each, but that can take some time and effort. Lots of people just pick a safe all core number and work from there.

Power limit for any Ryzen is TDP×1.35. For the 7800X3D, it's 162 W, only that it never gets anywhere near. It's actual power consumption in Cinebench is around 80-90 W depending on memory configuration.

Like I said, I'm not talking about TDP. I'm talking about actual measured power consumption, which has nothing to do with TDP.

Technically yes, but at a certain point talking about 162W gets pretty pointless considering the CPU really only ever reaches just over half of its PPT in just about any workload. It's quite the different story compared to 5800X3D.

I think 8-core owners have just been spoiled. Getting real entitled with "just set -30, bro" wait till they get their hands on a 2CCD CPU and learn what per-core variation is all about

Exactly. :) That's why I never talk about TDP regarding an AMD CPU.

Interesting.. so you AM5 X3D guys would never see anything like this?

I have never been able to get close to maxing EDC on this CPU.. kinda bugs me a little because I do not know how :D

I don't think I have seen anyone ever reach even 120W on 7800X3D.

Well, since 142W is set in stone, you won't be able to max out EDC except by reducing it.

Nope. :) This is an all-core Cinebench run with a full boost at 4.8 GHz. Everything is on stock/auto.

1714718210808.png

My RAM is at 4800 MHz, VSoC at 1.0 V, but if I run it at 6000 MHz with VSoC at 1.2 V, I only get a couple of Watts more on the CPU package power. I just don't because it doesn't make a lick of difference. :D

Even getting much over 135W on a dual CCD is hard.

What kind of black magic is that? My 7700X ran at 142 W (max PPT) in all-core loads.

Edit: Oh wait, you're on X3D, too. I take my question back, silly me.

Minimum? 5950X is one of the easiest AM4 CPUs to cool. You could probably adequately cool a stock 5950X with something like a SI100, if not even lower.

If you want to actually push the 5950X? Then you're looking at the usual suspects - FC140, PS120EVO, etc.

yep the microcenter Mobo situation is bad everywhere. but the $196 7800x3d makes up for it.

my friend got a 7800x3d irl and backed out, he is just too afraid to build one and wants to stick with crap laptop.

Making another effort for 6400 this weekend. I think a lot of people complaining about high run AIDA latency ~70ns+ are only running it once. Power Down Mode seems to handicap the first run significantly, but not successive runs.

Fmax is 5050. I don't think there's a hard limit preventing you from doing 5050 all-core; the workload just needs to be light enough, cooling good enough, curve optimizer low enough.

RAM tweaking on AM5 vs. AM4, any thoughts? :D
