def, first order of biz is UW oled that's 180hz+ for my 4080. it's hitting the refresh rate easily right now on this 144hz UW.

Unless something happens I genuinely think the RX6950xt will be the last GPU I'll ever buy.

Not really worth moving one generation of GPU unless money is no object, even then it's a bit of hassle.

I'm on 3080 Ti and want to upgrade my main monitor to 4K/240 so will probably get 5090/Ti.

The monitor upgrade is eventual though, so in the meantime will likely just benefit from massively improved power efficiency, since I play framelocked at 237 FPS.

Also factoring in block cost, for this gen I want to go with Optimus for the GPU too.

Gotta love those 1.5 C deltas between core and coolant.

I have 4090 and for now I'm totally satisfied with it's performance in 3440x1440. To the point I even haven't bothered to play games like Cyberpunk PT or Wake 2 with Frame Generation, but maybe it's me finding smooth frametime and reached with DLSS Quality ~60 fps satisfying to the point of me not wanting to sacrifice some fidelity for additional smoothness.

And in general, imo GPU upgrades should start from at least 100% uplift. There less fun from approach many practice being "smaller money for smaller upgrades" (calculating high resell value of old stuff). Like this craziness people used to do with upgrading AM4 CPUs every gen like damn three times to get another ~25% more fps and somehow smoother frametime to see it all when CPU bottlenecked... Hardware is powerful enough until it meets personal likings, so just more powerful successors don't tempt me. On the other hand I know that selling highend card close to launch of successor and getting latter works quite good financially when offering you top of the line performance all of the time. Assuming no price uplifts ;)

Not sure yet. I've been considering an early upgrade to a 4060 or SMTH to replace the used 2060 I'm currently running with. And before you criticize me for considering a 4060 with less VRAM over a 3060... I'm interested in DLSS3. That's my justification.

I'll have to look into how much of a performance bump I'll actually be getting before I pull the trigger, of course. And since my gaming needs thus far have been pretty lenient, logically speaking, I should probably hold off for a bit longer just to see what unique feature(s) the 50 series comes with.

Depends, I'm fine with my 3060 Ti currently but in 2025 I might upgrade tho I have zero interest in the high end cards so at most a 5060/Ti range depending on its performance and prices ofc.
Tbh I would be fine with a 4070 Super too but I really have no use for a faster card currently so eh I will simply wait.:)

Hopefully, the 5060 Ti or W/E NVIDIA ends up calling it will be a good uplift and not be hamstringed by bad memory bandwidth, low VRAM or SMTH similar, like the 4060 Ti was. And I've also been considering a 4070 Super since it seems like one of the few cards in the 40 series that's a genuinely good deal, though I know it's in a radically different price class than what I'm primarily looking at.

Also, based PFP.

I'll likely skip. I have a 4090 on water and no reason to upgrade it. I'd have to see some game (likely games plural) that start to strain the 4090 and even then I'd have to see some major improvement to consider it. I do tend to try and upgrade while the previous card is still worth good money so it minimizes the heavy investment in the new one, but it usually benefits me to at least wait until the TI/Super versions launch, sometimes even a whole generation.

I got the 4090 because it was an MSRP FE at a price I wasn't going to beat and I had assumed (which looks possibly correctly) that the next gen wasn't coming until likely early 2025. So far so good.

I'm currently waiting for next gen CPUs to launch to decide if I want to pull the rip cord on my 13900k before any issues decide to crop up considering I currently haven't had any (*knocks on wood*) and my motherboard will never receive another BIOS update (RIP EVGA). That will require new motherboard, CPU, and water block, so yeah, I'll probably just stick with the 4090 to minimize the expenditure lol.

If it's N3 tsmc since the ai is supposed to go there in mid 25, count me in. For a big improvement 30-60% density 15-20% clock. I need a better CPU as well. That will limit me to a 70 tier. A cheaper 4070 ti basically.

If efficiency is poor, yes I'll skip.

A lot of people under-estimate the importance of efficiency but it's the primary factor that drives increases in performance.

My rig with 3090 still runs games nicely even though not at max settings for certain games but its fine

I plan to skip it if the price is too high. And there's a 99.8% chance it will be too high.

5090 in my opinion will be at least 2.5k. I like gaming but not that much. I think I am going to get in the best shape of my life this time around and let gaming sit on the wayside for a few years. Need to focus on the real world for bit.

I think maybe for the Titan AI or the 5090 Ti.

Wouldn't be surprised if 5090 is $1999.

I upgrade when there's a new card that's at least twice as fast as my current card, at the same price. So no chance.

What card do you have now?

Yes.

Imagine a wonderful world where the 5 series was price competitive with the...let's call it the MSRP of the 3 series. I'd then consider the equivalent 3-5 series leap...near EOL. When these cards are new they're going to hurt. It might be even worse with Nvidia cutting 4 series production to clear out the room...and that's tragic.

I see a 5070....once a series of cards that was $379 MSRP at launch (1070 specifically) costing double that...and I just don't give a crap about being able to turn on raytracing to make water 10% more realistic. I...oh god, I want Bioshock back.

I agree. 25% better looks good in benchmarks, but you can hardly feel it in real life. Totally not worth spending money on.
