Watched a video from JayzTwoCents where he reviewed and critiqued a newer utility I didn't know existed and am VERY excited for!
LibreHardwareMonitor

This project seemingly picks up where OpenHardwareMonitor(a utility I have been using) left off several years ago.
Fully updated for recent hardware and expands on OHM in many important ways.
Jay had some design ideas, one of which I agree with, but I'm otherwise happy!

@PhyxionNL and all of the recent contributors
Thank you for picking this project up and taking it to the next level! Very cool indeed!
My suggestion? Add a Paypal donation link to your Github page.

@JayzTwoCents
Thanks for reviewing this utility! You guys rock, as usual!

Thanks to @SomeOne99h chiming in, we have a dark-mode/themed version of this utility;
Current version is 0.0.7 but seems to be updated regularly ATM.

certainly looks better than HWMonitor, but everything jay raves about has been available from HWInfo for years now. So on-brand for jay

I guess there is a benefit as a content creator as LHM is completely open source so he doesn't have to worry about anything. But .csv logging or any of the useful functions have never cost money on HWInfo either

Gave it a spin and like everything that has come before, it does not stack up to HWInfo in the modern sensor readouts that we actually want to see these days. Even just looking at CPU sensors. GPU is alright but more of the same story.

Seems to use the same icon as OpenHardwareMonitor that I used to use back in the day.

It does, yeah.

Yes, but HWinfo plays havoc with some games and is a resource heavy utility.

The feature I agree with Jay on is a Dark Mode!! Very desired!

Seems like a nice replacement for HWmonitor for the simplified, at-a-glance software. Not all cases necessitate the glut of sensor info that HWinfo provides. So good on the team. Granted, for in-depth monitoring and assessment it still has ways to go, but it has its place.

effective clocks is nice. I've been playing with 4 ghz undervolting and was like thinking idle core aren't actually 4ghz and effective clocks shows what I didnt know.

I have always liked and used HWMonitor (though prefer HWiNFO64). That said, I am impressed by this LibreHW version and have added it to my utility box. :)

Thanks, Lex! :)

I'm running multiple tools, depending on what I need, what I do, and how much other things behave with it. I still have HWiNFO around, next to HWMonitor, MSI Afterburner and even some old version of AIDA64 that I have a license for.

Will be looking into the new tool, especially when it has a portable version.

I remember some other reviewers also have shifted for Libre from HWmonitor. Dark mode ceetainly would be helpful.

I thought more people were aware of Open Hardware Monitor/Libre Hardware Monitor over HWMonitor. From what I remember, Open Hardware Monitor came about due to shortcomings with HWMonitor, and then Open Hardware Monitor stopped getting updated, so Libre Hardware Monitor sort of replaced it. They all seem to be sort of spiritual successors of one another (even though HWMonitor is still updated I think?).

Libre Hardware Monitor (and Open Hardware Monitor before it) had some nice quality of life changes that HWMonitor lacked, but it also had some minor shortcomings of its own for me. My guess is that HWMonitor wants to stay a very minimalist and simple application, but it truly is missing some important quality of life things. It didn't even remember the last window size/position the last time I used it. That one annoyed me. Libre Hardware Monitor has its own shortcomings still, but they're more minor and fewer. It doesn't remember the last state (open or collapsed) of a few subsections for me (and they're always the same GPU and storage ones), it doesn't allow me to hide all of the sub-sections I'd like to hide (it seems you can show/hide things on a main section basis only, and subsections can only be collapsed), and it didn't seem to fully support all features of external drives, but that one is a bit more minor.

I actually just opened Libre Hardware Monitor since it's been a while, and it's... interesting...

Those core voltages would be concerning to me if I believed them.

Out of date most likely, but it wasn't doing this last time I used it on the same hardware, so I figure either a BIOS or chipset driver change is responsible, as those would have been the only things I've changed since then? Come to think of it, the CPU frequency and GPU temperature weren't being reported the last time I used Afterburner either, so that's probably it.

Anyway, I like this "family" of software because it's more minimalist than something like HwInfo64.

That does not mean anything because whether or not that prompt appears is dependent on the settings you, as the user, have set (or left at the default setting).

On this machine, I get the prompt and I'm okay with that.

It does, yeah.

Yes, but HWinfo plays havoc with some games and is a resource heavy utility.

The feature I agree with Jay on is a Dark Mode!! Very desired!

The cool thing I like about HWiNFO64 is the customization options. For example, you can color-code any sensor reading to something more visibly noticeable so it stands out at a glance, and you can also disable and/or hide any sensors you're not using or change the polling rate (two options which will impact how resource heavy it is).

Also, I think the commercial rates are quite reasonable compared to any other commercial software prices I've seen.

There is a fork that gives the Dark Mode :)
A bit of random dude but hopefully it stays safe.

Anyways I used Open HWmonitor for a short time until i realized it stopped supporting newer hardware via sensor data, that is when i used HWINFO

Will agree with you on LTT & HU, Linus and Walton are both sellout asshats. However, GN and J2C do not fall into the same group of nitwits. They're their own brand of thingy. However, while Jay and Burke have their business' to run, they are genuine and honest. I'm not saying you have to like them, only that to lump them in with LTT & HU is disingenuous at best..

LTT, is Canadian. That alone deserves a pass…

(ok, British Columbia Canadian, lol)
and IMO he invests his “billions” in other ventures, to NOT become a you-tube burnout.

yes, his content it is “light-and-airy” for the masses, but I wouldn't call him a Sellout… ya the ad’s and promo spots are annoying, but it is a Business.

Haha, gotta give LTT a pass just for being Canadian, right? And I think he's smart to diversify his investments so he doesn't get burned out on YouTube. Yeah, his content might not be super in-depth, but it's not like he's a sellout. The ads and promos can be annoying, but it's all part of the business. And let's be real, he's probably learned from NCIX's mistakes.

What? There is nothing wrong with Canada or the people that live there. LTT is a not a pass because Linus often times can't tell his bum from a hole in the ground. That's not a Canadian thing, that's a Linus being a dillhole thing.

EDIT: Left a key word of context.
