X3D is no fun to tune. You have to work with factory power limits, and they are pretty weak.

I also appreciate tuning. I could have set my 7800x3d at - 20 CO on all cores and had great performance that is perfectly stable.
YMMV. When I tried -15 on my 7800X3D I started getting the exact same error messages that Intel stability issues are causing...

Not every cpu can do - 20 on all cores. As I understand it most can. My point was more that my performance gains from per core negative CO are minimal and took a lot of time to find stable settings.

You may be on to something. I managed to get a 5950x B0 stepping (on AIO) from ebay and it edges out my B2 stepping (on custom loop).

My 5600X is a first run, and it can do 2000 1:1 stable as a table, and bench at 2100 1:1 lol.. and my 5900X is pretty good too, not so much on fclk clocking, but she booosts.

Hi, My Ryzen 7800x3d runs at 83C when Cinebench is running. Max temp according to Ryzen Masters software is 89C. Should I disable PBO that is enabled by default in Bios to get temp to better level?

I think 89°C is thermal throttling point for that CPU. You can lower both the TDP limit and the thermal throttling point in BIOS and change nothing else, if you want better temps.

FWIW I did 65W/75°C myself. Performance impact is not noticeable in (my) real-world use.

Not every cpu can do - 20 on all cores. As I understand it most can. My point was more that my performance gains from per core negative CO are minimal and took a lot of time to find stable settings.
All core -20 gives BSOD on boot and all core -10 throws errors in Linpack Xtreme on mine. I did not bother after that. Guess I got unlucky.

So anyone else with a Zen 3 X3D notice PBO options are in their BIOS after an update?
I just flashed w/ latest one for my B550 Tomahawk and it's just not -CO available anymore...

I'm already running -30 CO (all-core) stable, so not sure what to expect (haven't tested anything yet).

Especially so. That's rough buddy.

On the other hand I am especially lucky.

Yes. PBO is the built-in overclocking setting effectively. There's more to it, but that's what it does. Turn it off and run stock settings, making sure your voltages are in check, and you should see your temp come down. If they don't, you might have a situation with your cooler not be enough for the CPU heat output.

Way to go RTB. You bought a 9950x, fully dismantled and alcohol scrubbed your PC, only then to realize you are out of thermal paste.

Amazons fastest option is Kryonaut Extreme, and despite mixed feelings about paying ~20 bucks for literally 2 grams of paste, it can be here by 7am tomorrow. (other brands take around 2 days it seems). This PC is my baby and I can't have her in pieces like this so guess what I ordered.

I really wanted to reuse my Kryosheet but it uh... disintegrated *sad C3PO noises*

If PBO is on “Auto” then it’s disabled by default.
By setting it to “Enable” the board is taking over and set the limits.. high. Hopefully from what I’m seeing they keep at least Scalar to X1(default silicon health management).

PBO only allows the board to supply more power if needed. Since the 7800X3D comes nowhere near its power target by default, PBO does absolutely nothing with it.

83 °C in Cinebench is really good. What better temps do you want? :)

So I got some thermal paste... Amazing delivery time at almost 4am, scary but appreciated.

Now I started playing with her and... gear down mode disabled is broken, at least on my current board. Really AMD/Gigabyte?

Other than that bug its actually working well. Just dont turn off gear down mode unless you like reboot loops right when the bootloader kicks on (the bios works fine lol).

Kryosheet has really impressed me so far with my gpu. I have read several reviews where they were able to reuse it several times without issue. I will listen to your story and make sure I have alternate paste available when I next disassemble my gpu. :)
I still need to test the sheet on my cpu. I bought a piece for it and haven't bothered yet.

To be fair I'm pretty sure my mounting pressure could've made it into a diamond, so not all its fault.

Yeah its probably reusable but have a backup plan.

In the BIOS of my board right next to "ASUS Performance Enhancement" there is a setting "Core Performance Boost" with the description "Automatically overclocks the CPU and DRAM to enhance system performance." Naturally, I went and turned that off. After starting to wonder why the hell my CPU never goes past 4.2GHz I googled and... it is the AMD clock boosting thing. FFS.

What thing?
The default max rated boost of 5600X is 4.6GHz on single core or low load.
Are you referring on multi thread? If yes then this is normal within the specified Precision Boost limits on power and current(A).

Oh, I had the old system in System Specs.
Nope, that is literally the setting that allows my 7800X3D to boost beyond base clocks :D

FFS.
Welcome to the endless forest of AMD abbreviations! They have almost as many as Intel has Lakes. :D

Core Performance Boost = what Intel calls "turbo" or "boost".
Precision Boost Overdrive = an increased power limit.
ASUS Performance Enhancement = whatever ASUS means by that on your specific board. :D
