Some totally broken maths
2.5/1.67 = 1.497, so based on those broken maths, AMD managed to increase it's RT performance by 50%.
Still not enough. They need RDNA4 to be at least 3 times faster in RT to be able to win against Nvidia.

Which game console has Nvidia RT in it that's 3x faster than the PS5? I'd like to compare performance.

Don't understand the appeal of these half-gen upgrades, if you already own a PS5 just enjoy it until PS6. Mark Cerny is cool, but $700 USD is crazy, just build a gaming PC then don't have any monthly fees to play games online and have backwards compat forever.

The biggest issue with physical game releases is that you still have to download tens of GB in patched on day 1, so the physical release as a standalone is pretty useless. Devs should release a disc version only after all the patching is done, like Remedy did with Alan Wake 2.

That still doesn't work around the fact most games won't fit in a 25 or 50 GB Blu-ray disc, nor addresses the low data throughput (lengthy installs), or fragility of the media.

IMO a resurgence of the physical cartridge has to occur, if physical distribution is to remain a thing.

I for one am glad this has no disc drive. Optical media is an obsolete medium for game distribution, and the omission of an optical drive on a Pro console is perfectly acceptable and understandable. The PS6 and the next-gen Xbox should drop optical media entirely. If "offline distribution" of data is a must, then games should come on micro SD-like flash media cards.
GTFO with that shit! I have a huge bluray collection & decent sized game collection, obsolete my ass.

Read the thread before you get outraged... Optical media has to go. I don't really care for physical distribution, but if it is to remain we need a new medium that is more apt to deal with modern video games. That's my point.

I think Sony knows what they are doing. It has had massive PS5 sales since 2020. This new model will sell very well. If you don't think so please short their stock price and let me know how you did in 3 years.

There's probably about at least a dozen better stocks or options if you really want to burn your money. Sony as a stock is just stale!

Meh,

Did you notice emphasis on WE developed... instead we asked AMD... it ain't a humble thing to do.
This is one of the things that pisses me off from AMD and it’s affecting their mindshare among gamers.
But its also one of the main reasons everyone likes to work with them instead of Ngreedia.

The “main” advantage of consoles is that lots of gamers dont want the hassle of dealing with settings, updates, etc and just want to pick up a controller, put their feet up and enjoy a gaming session on their living rooms.

Yes, SteamOS in the form of ChimeraOS and Bazzite do a great job in turning your pc into a console but its still not as easy as a real console.

Not from the US, so don't deal with US stocks directly, but I do watch the odd Jim Cramer (?) comedy show every now and then.

Is that real??? Amazing!

Sadly... but yes... there people way too high up, lacking any common sense and in the whole chain of approval someone also didn't say the obvious. Sony can be very stubborn BetaMax like, we all know that, the PSN network quarrel still showed that the company is not ready for PC consumers.

This thing will sell, but not as it should... I expect hefty price cut at the holiday season, then maybe.

800€? WTH! Are they kidding? I got 4070TI Super/5700X3D/32GB/2TB NVMe for 200€ more. Where has the console value gone:confused:?

You camped outside an EU microcenter or what? The card & CPU itself cost more than €800 combined & no way 32GB RAM+2TB SSD cost less than €200 today!

Unless of course you got them on sale over the last year or two?

It hasn't gone anywhere. It is an appliance which is what most people want. You plug it in and it works. You can't put a price on that for most people.

With improved RT and now by the looks of it, machine learning super sampling like DLSS, that $700 price tag is about the same as a 4070Ti with close to the same performance across all features. Not bad for a complete device.

Yeah, it's real. SCEE ran that advertisement in the Netherlands back in 2006. It was quickly pulled as people considered it insensitive.

No disk drive, no stand... 800 EUR for mid-gen refresh. Sony are just crazy. This is gonna flop worse than PSVR2.
Aren't they vertical standing by default anyways?
It won't do that bad. The time it takes to implement a higher resolution or better lods or whatever is much much shorter than converting or making anything for VR. PSVR2 has no very little content, PS5 Pro has the entire library to enhance.
