I just saw a slider that goes to 3000

This is an insane number to begin with. None or almost none 7900 XTX GPU can achieve such a frequency, let alone 7900 GRE with silicon lottery loser VRAM. 7900 GRE would've been a great value GPU if an average sample could achieve ~3000 MHz GPU / ~2750 MHz VRAM or higher. However, we're hard locked to ~2800 MHz GPU and silicon lottery locked to 2250...2550 MHz VRAM. I'd just buy a 7900 XT at this point tbf if NV GPUs were for some reason a no go. 7900 XT has plenty of VRAM bandwidth.

I only try it up to 2500 >> 2700 and get it back down to 2550.
Not much uplift and VRAM gets hot for no reason.

I have to say I really like the support bracket for them. My Hellhound 7900XTX is a 3 slot card so technically I don’t really meed it but I use it anyway because it’s just so tidy.

7900 cards can regularly hit 3000mhz just not at the same time with 2750mhz VRAM because of power limits.

Yup it's actually faster by a fair bit and cooler when gaming aswell and it was cheaper than me ole RX6800 but it will continue on in a build using my old AM4 gear so it's not going to go to waste

That's rough. Honestly, while everybody talks about RDNA 4's absence from the high-end, it's RT performance, yada yada, I just want this to be solved. I don't want to see 50 W being wasted on a 7800 XT class GPU playing a damn video file.

If I could have a single feature to have AMD focus on it would be finding how to run VRAM at 1/2 speed or less for low-demand workloads. That's it, my PC version of the single-issue voter.

When I see my 7700 XT or 6700 XT or (more rarely) 6600 XT, and even 6400 ramp up the VRAM to full speed just to play a video clip or play a simple 2D game or do something other than idling at the desktop, this tells me there is a longstanding problem with VRAM speed management that needs to be fixed. I only run 1 monitor but I understand from you all here that high multimonitor power usage is this same problem. Fix this and the high power usage for low-end tasks will be fixed. I know because that's what the other guy's video cards do happen to manage properly.

My 6600 XT is the best at this and in fact is a real standout among my current AMD stuff and my complaint about my 7700 XT is not at the top end. It's a great GPU when using 200W but it really doesn't like to power down as well as I'd like when under lower demand usage.

That looks great. My 6600 XT is more well-behaved when it comes to light/2D workloads and I really wonder if different model designs somehow handle things differently. Like the 6600 XT and 7900 XT may do this well where the 7700 XT and 6700 XT do not. My 6700 XT is not a great example of the 6700 XT though as others have done some tests I've replicated, and my particular card simply sucks.

I need to fire up the 6800 XT PC and test this out as I haven't in a while. It may handle power-limiting these light tasks better.

It's not the VRAM. The problem is that the chip fires up its shader cores for playing a simple video. Your VRAM looks fine, but your power consumption is still on the low 50s.

Do we know why that is? Doesn't pretty much every radeon architecture since Navi 1x have HW accelerated video decode? Why is it lighting up the shader cores to do work that should be done on that IP core?

I would assume so, yes.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't. It's probably a thing in the architecture, and I hope this is one of the "bugs" AMD promised to fix in RDNA 4.

Went on the Newegg this morning. The As Rock 7900XT is on sale for $859 Canadian. That is like $630 US. There are over 60+ people buying this card on Newegg. The narrative about AMD cards not selling is absolute BS. Don't forget you get Space Marine2 and another Game. SM2 is $90 for the standard edition on Steam.

Why does the 2650 core/2640 mem /default power OC at 1040mv give me about the same result in 3Dmark and Cybperunk when I've put the power -10?

Surely that difference would affect performance but it doesn't seem like it is. My hotspot doesn't go over 85 and its cool AF.

There are a lot of RX 7000 owner's someone definitely had tested AV1 vs H.265 (HEVC) video quality at some point. Same bitrate, same resolution AV1 vs H.265 (HEVC) when recording video games in motion.

I need a confirmation which one has better video quality when recording pc games.

I asked this question in AMD Community (Radio Silence) the same here in Graphics Cards Thread no legit answers just circling around and talking about completely different things.

yes and that's why it use power to do the job the higher the res video the higher the core speed needed to decode it without hitching
if you turn off HW accelerated decode you just push the job onto the CPU which will also increase its core speed and use power to do the same job
