I have tried four different XP ISO,s all come up with the blue screen error :( All the discs burnt with no errors.i thought perhaps it was the discs I was using for the last one i used a dvd one, but still no disc.:(
No problem with putting Vista and 7 on there. so what is the problem?I don,t understand why it works with Vista and 7 but not with XP.?o_O

I see that screen when I have my drive settings set for AHCI instead of IDE if I happen to try XP with a standard install done.
Doesn't matter if you're installing or trying to boot a copy, the screen you have is typical of what happens in that case.

If your board doesn't give you the option to use IDE you can try this instead:
Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver for Windows XP : Intel : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Has XP drivers for AHCI included but you'll need to Nlite your copy of XP and slipstream them into the install for it to work.

Do what Bones suggest, it usually because of SATA driver. Slipstream XP with your motherboard SATA driver using nLite. It's easy

That's the one, that's what I was thinking and not sata drivers, though it's been a long time since I've done an real (not in a VM) Windows XP, you just need to change the ahci setting in the bios to ide mode then it should install on your sata HDD

No need to do an nlite iso either if you're in ide mode, theres also an ahci registry change you can make when you have xp installed and then change back to ahci from the bios with no bsod iirc

Installed XP on i5 3470 and some H61M mATX board when I had to "wake up" Seagate 500GB HDD with BSY error (infamous ST3500320AS FW15). Only way I could install it was via this guide.
Please try it and give us feedback :)

I didn't say try the ide drive I said you need to go into the bios and change it from ahci to ide that's why it won't install on either

Have you tried another HDD? I see you're using a SATA to IDE controller so I would try a native IDE hard disk. If that doesn't work, try checking the motherboard website/manual to see if there's something specific you have to load to get XP to work. Also, if you don't want to use Nlite, you can put the drivers on a floppy disk and press F6 when prompted.

He doesn't need a driver if he has the option to change ahci to ide mode in the bios, he has also tried a ide drive though if the controller is in ahci mode this explains why it won't install to either

Oh, OK. In that case, I'd narrow it down to the SATA to IDE adapter that they're using.

All the BSOD errors I've had this year diving deep into the retro build arena have been SATA/IDE driver/drive related, but some images have also worked better than others.

Bios will need to be IDE mode, some adapters get rejected, some work fine, best bet is straight IDE drives for minimal fuss, but it is possible to install directly to a SATA SDD using IDE mode in the BIOS, I know becuase it worked, but on a end of XP support gen board (haswell). I almost lost my mind setting up a Socket 775 C2D AGP board but I got there, and I did get there using a SATA SSD with a Startech SATA/IDE adapter to it, and using a service like easy2boot (or another equivalent) that makes injecting the necessary driver possible.

I should have documented what worked but I was so close to putting my head through the board I was just stoked I got there :ohwell:

Well op hasn't confirmed that he has changed the setting, seems to be a language barrier perhaps? he's tried a ide drive as I pointed out that's not being recognised, and again it makes sense if the controller is in ahci mode so it won't recognise the ide drive and requires a driver for the sata drive unless he changes it in the bios, though I'm having to repeat myself at this point so I think I'll just leave them to it

No one is talking about out that.

in the BIOS you need to change AHCI to IDE
I don,t see any AHCI.or IDE ,see photos on the BIOS.I have had no problems getting ME or 2000 on any of my other boards.

0x0000007B means " INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE " even though is didn't state that on screen. At least that's the official error code listing.

What version of XP(RTM, SP1, SP2 SP3) are you using and what kind of boot media?
