Men Play Female Character in VG, reason

I play female characters so when my daughters, niece or god-daughters watch me play it stirs more interest.

to my (CIS, white male) mind, I would expect that many women make male characters simply to avoid the absolute CRAP that female gamers have to put up with, and even in an offline, PVE game, I wouldn't be surprised to see a higher percentage of female-played male characters.... kind of disappointing realization, honestly....

Oh, yeah.... that was definitely a thing, especially decades ago and it still might be. I was under the impression it's gotten better over the years though, at least that's been my experience and observation, but perhaps I'm simply not seeing it as often anymore due to my habits (such as the games I play, communities I interact with, or simply not giving it as much thought when it does occur to try and filter it out mentally, etc.). As much as I'll sometimes praise things as being better years ago, many things were also worse, and this is one of them. Maybe it's because the internet became more mainstream so it's not as unusual for a girl to be involved or something.

I was originally answering mostly from the perspective of single-player and offline games alone though, as that's mostly what I play. When it comes to online, yeah, different story. I've known of some girls in MMOs especially or just on the internet decades ago that would avoid talking about the subject (or sometimes even lie if it came up) due to how tiresome it could get.

a long time ago we had a girl who raided in WoW as a male toon for this reason. Things have changed since then but I think now it's mostly "you do you" which it probably should have been since day one so people would not have to take "crap".

I used to make male characters to reflect myself as a character but nowadays I rather listen to a female voice actor speak in my ears and see a female's body instead of a male body. (I will escort myself to jail )

More seriously, I prefer hearing voices like Claudia Black and Jennifer Hale (the GOAT of female VA voices) instead of a generic male voice. There are some memorable distinct male voice actors but you don't really hear them outside of some anime or non-western games which is a pity.

When it comes to gender-dependent content, I judge which choice gives me the more satisfying romance or sub-quests. Generally, I wish more games were more like Baldur's Gate 3 instead of Mass Effect, where the NPC characters don't care what gender the player avatar are. Lock-gating content is such an outdated idea.

Woman casting magics in games like TES (Oblivion/Skyrim that i known) is better than man's voice, as an exemple.
Also i'm not looking at the "shape" of the body, the voice is something that adds to the woman character gameplay compared to man, yes.

This topic's question remembers me a game, Stasis, first is about a man story, the second, Cayne, free game btw, is was a woman.

lol, if anything I pray to find time to play games in the absence of my kids. Sick of being disturbed with "daddy can i have a go". If one gets on, the other one is magically summoned. If they die or lose quick (they always do), it takes a fraction of a second for them to lose the concept of "turn-by-turn". Then the third, the toddler swoops in just getting in the middle of everyone. By the time its finally my turn, the game immersion has already packed its bags and left the building.

I, too, have this problem. I found the secret is quickly alt tabbing to Europa Universalis 4, or any other stare-at-europe type games, if they come into view and they will be bored very quickly.

If I wanted to interact with NPCs with distinct personalities that feel real, I would just go outside and interact with real people instead. Playing a game is the time that I want to be entertained, exclusively. That is not always the same thing as immersion to me.

If I see a grizzly bear in Witcher 3, I am going to charge that bear and get my loot after slicing him up. If I see a grizzly bear in real life, I am probably dead.

The game you really want is to play Rule the Waves. Pretty low resource utilization, even more boring than EU4.

I mean, what if your daughters are interested in European battles? I promise you that no one is interested in spreadsheets about naval ship design in the 1890s.

That's exactly my point. Characters in movies and games need to have a personality, otherwise I can't take them seriously, and all the entertainment factor is gone. I'm not playing games to simulate what I can't have in real life (my real life is pretty good, thanks), but to simulate a different life.

A grizzly bear is an animal. A human being (or humanoid) is a different story. I don't expect one just to react to my clicks without adding anything on their own.

It depends on the game and setting. For Assassin's Creed Odyssey/Valhalla? Male, female just doesn't fit the theme. For Mass Effect 1-3, I had two different characters of both genders. Starfield? Could go either way, so I went female.

Woman characters are sometimes more subtile than man characters, so they are harder to target in pvp. Also some people subconsciously underestimate woman character, so they don't give 100% to their gameplay=bigger chance to win!!

My biggest problem is the fashion of nude mods that came up to grow on Nexus, cluttering the whole site, from Zelda to to Resident Evil, without forgetting any game type inbetween btw, never any plot just nudity of characters coming from nowhere and not matching any game's environnement.

Also those people interested in those such mods look agressive mostly.
