How bad is your upgrade itch?

You are either very late to the game or just in time.... Best time would have been before the new chips from AMD and Intel dropped and spiked the price of 7800X3Ds to beyond stupid. Im guessing higher end Zen 4 chips have also seen huge price spikes because of the new gens performance when compared to the old and everyone is just buying up the old stock because its cheaper rather than continue to keep waiting.

On the plus side. 9800X3D is rumoured to be $450 at launch according to HUB (I think they said it was $450...) which was average price of the 7800X3D before the market got destroyed and they started selling for around $600 give or take. YOU WONT SEE $450 AT LAUNCH. No way in hell will you see that price at launch but I dont think they'll be as over-inflated as the current 7xxx chips.

So either way you slice it you've still got a short wait ahead depending on launch pricing. If the market has already had their fill of remaining Zen 4 chips. Then people wont be buying Zen 5 chips in huge numbers and if thats the case then there wont be a reason to keep the prices overly inflated because it helps no-one.

As for me - I was really really butt hurt when my new 7800XT died. My disappointment was immeasurable and my days were ruined. I was hung up on it for two months?? I poured all the money from the refund into a separate hobby so at the moment I have no itch because I have no budget left for anything big and the only big thing that needs doing is replacing my 6700XT which wont be until next year as Im unwilling to pay inflated launch prices.

When I started building my own PCs, 20 years ago or so, I could not afford to upgrade as often as I wanted. These days, I could afford pretty much anything I want. Yet I'm sitting happily on my 12600k+1060 combo.
Gaming? I don't do that anymore. Computing power? Had plenty of that for ages. The past couple of upgrades felt like they were more about additional connectivity, getting USB3.2, M.2 connectors and such. Also, motherboard prices have gone insane.

I took care of that itch a couple of months ago when we went for a holiday in the UK and went on a crazy shopping spree, so I'm now on the wagon, so to speak :D

Only want the RTX 5090. Can never have enough graphics horsepower

I picked up a R7 5800x for $128, from the egg. It was a good price and upgraded a 3600x in a spare machine.

I'd love to upgrade my GPU. Waiting for RX 8000 though, so I'm stuck at the moment.

Nonexistent for Core Ultra. Downgrade my gaming performance? No thanks lol.
From 4090 to 5090.. That I’m considering.

Just bought a GPU I don't need

I am ok with what I have for now.

I wouldn't mind a stronger GPU though.

I will hop aboard for Zen 6 and a matching GPU.

I'm buying a new computer next year. I've had this 10900X system for 4 years now. I wanna upgrade after 5 years.

GPU - maybe. Not really motivated since the 2080ti is good enough for DCS and friends. On the other hand, easy to do.

CPU/mainboard - no itch. I have 128 GB ECC RAM with my 5959x. Replacing that with DDR5 will be too expensive for a modest speedup of 20% or so.

We will see, although Intel limited me to waiting till the 9800X3D isn't stupidly priced if I want to upgrade my secondary pc....

On the gpu side I'm really tired of how Nvidia treats gamers with jacking up prices and gimping the shit out if everything that isn't 90 class, but on the other hand AMD doesn't even offer anything I want to buy on the gpu side other than consoles..... I'll likely only upgrade if there is a game I want to play and my 4090 isn't cutting it.

My 21 month old is my priority right now regardless so it will at least keep me from being impulsive lol.

all I want is a gpu with more than 8gb of ram

I have no itch really. and I want to get into making my own watercool setup

also I need $

also I need $
Me too, put that sh*t on muh grill.

Yeah I am ready for a GPU upgrade. I upgraded everything else when the 7800x3d was released just wanting a better GPU.

One of these days my DCS Flight Sim will be perfect.
Then there will probably be a funeral! MINE!!:peace:

Your new gateway drug, lol. All that worrying about GPU prices seems so small in the rearview mirror now.......and that's definitely not a good thing

The only big upgrade I'm looking forward to in the near future (after 5800X3D and 6900XT more than a year ago) is probably the nice big 2160p OLED screen, pushed as far as my 90cm+ deep desk allow. Probably 42", 48" and less likely 55" (it's a lot pricey). My rig can push high (>100) FPS numbers in games I actually like to play, even in 2160p, and AAA is dead to me anyway. UE5 can kiss my 6900XTXH's ass.

Biggest upgrade to gaming for me over the last decade was switching to oled.... started with one now I got 3 lol...

I don't have an upgrade itch, but a downgrade itch :D

I'm quite tempted to get something like this:

Currently I'm waiting till they upgrade to AMD Strix Point (or maybe even Strix Halo o_O, yes, one may dream).

Usually upgrade every alternate generation but for whatever reason I upgraded the CPU on every zen release since zen 2. It was a pretty small price to pay though per upgrade.

I'm now hoping GB launch a X870 Tachyon so I can push this 9950x to some tuned ddr8400 and see what it's got.

Real bad.

Got it contained for the moment with:

In the last couple of years - I have purchased - Because of itching problems, the following:

G6900
12400F
12600K
13600KF
13700K
14100F
14700K

RX 6400
RX 6500 XT x2
RX 6600
RX 6650 XT
RX 6700
RX 6700XT
RX 6800

RTX 3050
RTX 3060
RTX 3060ti
RTX 4070 Super

There is more, I'd have to check histories, this list does not include older hardware used for benchmarking such as Fire-Pro cards and such which would be a estimated 80 video cards worth.

I'm pretty comfy with my 7700X, so no itch there. My 3070 still does the job, but since I bought it second-hand, in the back of my mind I'm worried it'll just decide to crap out one day. To that point, something like a 7700XT GPU would be nice to have (Nvidia can kiss my ass), so minor itch to upgrade there. The itch to upgrade gets stronger when it comes to my AIO; I have a LF II 280 right now, but am looking at a 360, but also want to get a new, smaller case, so I'm holding off on the AIO upgrade.

The itch is unbearable when it comes to a new monitor though! Either as a secondary monitor to my Aorus CV27F, or a new main monitor, either a 32" or 34" 1440!

I was all set to make a Microcenter run for a new MB, GPU and proc once the x3ds hit. Already picked up the memory, PSU and case. Then our pup was diagnosed with cancer 4 weeks ago. I told the vet to do whatever it takes to kick cancers ass our boy deserves every chance we can give him. So far its working thank God. Spendin 10 grand to keep our baby boy alive had a way of straightening out my priorities with a quickness. Spoiling our guy has become my focus for as many months or years as I can get with him from here on out :) Computer shit can wait.

Depends on what you define as an upgrade itch. I don't really feel pressed to upgrade my PC hardware, but I am looking to upgrade my cooling solutions and case soon.
