I'll hold off playing (and buying) it until the bugs are ironed out.
Not a STALKER game if it doesn't crash, hasn't got quests that are impossible to complete and performs well. The true experience is day1, today!

I saw this from a review -

from the hardware review

During those numerous hours of testing, I experienced multiple crashes, freezes, and bugs. The developers have said that the day-0 patch, which comes with the game's release, should resolve many of these, but I think the fundamental problem with the performance and graphics won't be solved until it implements a hardware Lumen rendering option.

the best but most broken game I've played all year.
Called it, yeah.

@dirtyferret
I have no idea why they think Lumen would fix anything. The “fundamental problem” is that GSC hasn’t released a properly working game since the Cossacks days. This is just business as usual.

my "guess" is the software lumens does not take full advantage of the GPU RT hardware and puts too much stress on the CPU resulting in large FPS drops from avg to lows but that's my guess

If you've not played the previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, there's really nothing else out there it can compare to. And certainly not Chernobylite. GOG has them on sale often, and despite the age, you could get a pretty good idea of the style of the game from one of original trilogy.

Thing is isn't Starker 1 on a totally different engine than this one ?, kinda like remake os the witcher is going be on the unreal engine which will make it a completely different game never mind the rule's they have to abide to using unreal engine.

Been waiting so long that I can easily wait a few more weeks for bugs to be ironed out. I'm not in a hurry to be one of the masses. Besides, I'm getting it on GOG and will as always be using the offline installer version. As anyone who gets their games from GOG in this fashion knows, 75% of the time the files come through very slow... nowhere near my normal download speeds for anywhere else. I imagine the next couple weeks will put an even greater strain on their servers and I'd rather not be bothered with it.

The X-Ray engine is powered by prayers, hopes, dreams and vodka. And is about as stable as an average gopnik on krokodil. It’s no surprise that GSC went for an off the shelf solution instead of trying to make their own engine again, not to mention that it’s not really the same GSC nowadays. Most of the talent went and created 4A. The Metro series is probably closer to being a technological successor to Stalker than Stalker 2.

Same here, though at 1 point I got a game freeze that lasted 10 second, thought the game was gonna crash but it didn't.

Game sure is fun, felt like the first time I played Fallout 3 :D

it is a pretty good game, and the map is seemingly pretty huge, so if it is filled with interesting stuff, will take a while to explore

well, I started playing. Its OK.

Not as good as the old ones. Its kinda boring. Challenging which I like. But overall boring with boring plot. Mixed in with crap performance, I wouldn't recommend this game. At least not anytime soon.

Lots of negatives on GOG but lots of positives on Steam. Most people complain about performance and some say 1st Stalker was better.

Oh well, ill wait till they release a patch or 2 probably will have to wait for sometime(2-3 months?) after January '25. Cant play it anyways since i have to build new pc.

Most of the negatives I’ve seen seem to be about it being boring with none of the AI activity in the world from the first game (so not a living world that exists without you like SoC and CoP) as well as very few side quests. This is not something I foresee any amount of patches fixing.

That means they spent a lot of time replicating the game world and making it look great, but little else other than main quest. I’ll watch some more reviews and playthroughs, but so far I’m glad I didn’t spend money on it.

Edited for spelling and a parenthesis context added.

I think this game got a lot of hype for reasons beyond being a good game (politics/war, a lack of competition this year, etc...)

Stalker 1 was fun, but is also incredibly niche and incredibly buggy. This game being the exact same thing should surprise no one.

Game is excellent so far. The map is huge and interesting and the main story is even pretty good. Better than the original stalker games. The game drops FPS every 30 min or so and takes about 20 seconds to recover which is super annoying. There are other issues as well but you are missing out by passing on this game if you are a FPS/RPG/survival game fan. If you prefer polished boring AAA crap, I guess this game won't do it for you. This game has heart and soul. Its interesting. Something I cannot say for many games , COUGH DA: Veilguard COUGH.

I have not had a single crash(yet) I am enjoying the game so far. I can’t see what all the complaints are about, and as for the first being better I have all three originals and imo they are pretty bad.

I'm loving it - so immersive... the performance reminds me when I played the first one on my 8800GT and E8400 system - basically the same fps. Graphics have that same sometimes amazing, other times euro-jank quality.

The X-Ray engine was a feature itself :D legendary bugs in physics, sometimes bodies just launched at a random direction or got streched like hell.

I killed a guy last night, and hiss body was in the ground with just hands and feet sticking out, was kinda funny, but on the whole, pretty happy with the way it runs.
