So I've been kind of Not benchmarking hardware lately. I do that more than anything else, but gaming is becoming more interesting for me.

Let me explain the title quickly, just want some thoughts what you guys think.

I don't really play anything heavy. I mean I have Cyber Punk, but it's not my cup of tea game play. Strategy, fast paced FPS, car games and I like Sim City 4.

My kids running a 6700XT. I let him play war thunder on mine and of course his.
He's telling me, without the counter, it plays the same both cards!!! I'm like "Get OUT!" and sure enough, I can't tell the difference.
I did NOT kind of checked FPS counters. I don't really care. I know exactly how to get FPS, but honestly, I just want to fire up and GAME.
I'm hitting 300FPS 1080, He's says over 200FPS on 1440P

Have 1080P monitor. ACER with the AMD stuff built in..... Kid has curved nice stuff. Spoiled little.....

<---System specs accurate. (besides display) I don't really use the E-cores gaming at this time, they are usually off.

Keep the card, upgrade monitor? 1440 or 4K (what are good choices) <--- Is my logical idea, but don't think I need it unless 4K right??
Or silly thought, sell card, fund another 6700XT and nice 1440P monitor. (thoughts on this??))

Thanks for reading!
Dump opinions fine!
Questions please!

Upgrade monitor.

WT is transitioning to ray tracing and DX12 right now and it's quite a nice implementation.

My 3080Ti gets about 70-120 FPS 1440p maxed so I doubt a 6700 XT would break 30 FPS.

The 4070 Super is already an excellent card and the only real direction from there is up.
If you switch to a bigger monitor or from desktop to VR or suddenly need dual encode, it's 4070 Ti territory just to push those pixels.
I use a single 1080p144 display so unlike the 60FPS crowd I have incentive to pair it with a decent GPU. It paired well with my RX 580 new.
There are 4-5 generations of GPU that have happened since then and I'm looking at the 4070 Ti Super or 7900 XT to fill the gap.
However, we are all currently in an exciting waiting period for the next ~30 days for new stuff to drop like RTX 5000 series and RX 8000 series.
Intel has also joined again as a Player 3, recently announcing their next generation dGPU for entry level gamers and creators, invoking a nasty price war.

Keep the card and monitor. Wait for options to open up. There is a LOT of everything just waiting to ship to shelves very soon.

Why not power limit it for the time being and run it at stock down the road when the extra oomph is needed? Those cards are extremely efficient.

Keep the 4070S IMO. Even if you don't care much for being at the forefront, once games begin to make use of Blackwell's horsepower the extra few shaders will definitely come in handy. The 6700 XT is a massive downgrade from where you're standing.

It is the fastest card I've ever owned!!
Really do like it. I like it a lot!!

Holds 3DMark03 WR at 100th of 10787 submissions! 14700K at 6600Mhz :)
But that's all I had really bought it for in the first place. Was benchmarking it.

So 1440P? Sure I shouldn't look at 2160P instead?

Well he's 12, so I'm not certain if the game is on defaults or not. Will have to examine that. thank you.
My settings unaltered as well. For sure getting over 300fps WT.

Though I do air borne assaults more than tanks honestly. My brother insists I get a stick. (for many years now lol). Maybe ground FPS differs from Air? haven't tried water yet.

Getting a 4K monitor is amazing (mostly the new OLED & QD-OLED ones at 240Hz) but newer games can be very demanding depending on what you're playing... If you want high framerate then 1440p@480Hz should be the way!

I'd stick to 1440p. Going to 4k needs extra grunt which means it might not keep up as long as it you stick to 1440p. It also comes down to preference.

I don't see a problem here. If the power draw is your concern then, as mentioned above, just limit your FPS and you'll be fine. Other than that, why do anything, you'll do yourself a giga solid if you just ignore this itch and let the hardware work till it's really not okay anymore.

Totally not picky. I ran some Hisense 40" TV for many years. 1080P 30hz baby! Might had been 60hz, but it was a POS. Got this little Acer 1080P "gaming" monitor, and oh man it's way clean compared to the old TV haha. Think the one I have now is 144hz. Works good, bought it a few months ago.

Well I meant Epeen. Or IPC type of power. My bad.
I don't mean power draw, I has 1050w HX series PSU. Very fine PSU. Has served me very well.

Not concern. Not scared of power draw. Power draw and I get along fine.
Have melted PSU power cord from power draw. Try 2x 290X + 280X SLI can set house on fire. :)

You already are a happy father that can afford letting his son play vidya on his own puter that's by the way not obsolete by any mean. I'd never care for any epeen if I were in your shoes.

Used EVGA GTX 980 on air for many years. Was a great clocking card. I didn't need any cards I've ever purchased beyond this with honesty. Up to this point rather.
My First cards where 7600 GT's in SLI with FX-55. That's my first gaming rig. And I'm an old school gamer.

So in unfair opinion, a lot of games to me are like COD 14nm +++++++++ type of thing. It seems rare that a game seems to captivate me for long periods of time. And all the old games been beaten already.
I mean I still remember the dang Contra cheat code for infinitive lives off my head! Back when gaming was actually Cool!!.

When my SR-2 was operational I had the two x5680 OC'd and with the GTX690 I saw 940w from the watt monitor.

Sweet Mother of GOD!!

Didn't have the meter hooked up. I gotta be careful. Have a 20a on a 15a circuit. (screw in fuse, not a breaker) didn't pop but that's 2200w capable I believe if the math is right.
Other than that, Family of 5, there's no saving the electric bill, I've tried..... lol. so no point to worry about it.

Coming back to the "silly thought" of selling your card to get a decent amd replacement with a decent 1440p monitor: yes, why not?
Treat your eyes now so that they will betray you a little later ;)

And concerning owning a primary 4K monitor:
At some point you´ll find something that looks too small if you try to put native 4k through a 32 inch or smaller monitor. Sure it´s possible. But it´ll always be a tiny bit iffy.

So why not make that "4k" question display size dependent?
And if the 4k answer is yes: Any monitor bought now has hdmi 2.1 limitations.

So the monitors endgame will be a 4090.
Keep that in mind, juuust in case

So 1440P? Sure I shouldn't look at 2160P instead?

If you don't care about the latest AAA games at max settings, it should be fine at 4K. And surely that will be a monitor you'll keep for a good while. Otherwise, it's not a 4K card.

I play BMS and DCS at 4K just fine with my 4070 Ti (43" QN90B), but the former is pretty light on hardware and the latter is not a terrible experience at lower fps with the help of capable VRR. All other games I play on my other panels at 1440p.

War Thunder is an ass experience anyway (frame consistency wise) no matter your fps, until you set a reasonable fps limiter in NVCP. So I guess it doesn't really matter. Doesn't really need that much fps to play well either.

I don't think there exists yet (or maybe ever will be) a CPU OP enough to fully leverage current gen higher-end GPUs at a resolution as low as 1080p. So you can really pick any 2 cards and potentially say that they perform the same...they don't, both of them are just being handicapped.

So definitely 1440P, Keep the card.

I suppose 5070 Super would be of no consideration later, probably skip a ton of generations. GPUs aren't cheap any more. Paid like 6 hundred for the 4070 Super. MSI Ventus 3. I don't think the fans ever spin unless I tell them to... lately, stock and quiet.

Should be super expensive given where we are currently with "AI" & GDDR7; I'd be slightly surprised if Nvidia doesn't ask for a major price hike with that!

Haven't played a lot of games that are new. Not generally competitive unless you wanna jam quake III arena or Unreal Tournament II and III.

So 600$ was a stretch to buy the card. Was like 585 ok. W/e. But a 4090/5090 would not be a consideration for me. I could buy a beater car and get a part time job with that kind of money.

No, I understand not all cards can run max settings in games at different resolutions. I just figured, it's over kill for my monitor.

So I could sell it, get another 6700 XT and nice gaming monitor and not spend more money than I already this year, into next year.

They sell AI like it's a new concept.

I certainly don't feel I will need GDDR7 unless doing the big 5090 deal 4K monitor and top AAA titles.

The games aren't always cheap either. add ons in game purchases, all that hoopla.

I just want a good looking racer that plays like Need for Speed under-cover or Most wanted for that matter XD.

My gaming list looks horrible I bet to some of you guys/gals lol.

Have you tried Undervolting your GPU ? The RTX 40s might not be a good value on a Performance/Price point, but there is 1 thing they are all really good at, it's Efficiency! Undervolting + Capping FPS should do wonders! ;)

No I cannot say I have because the voltage is locked. I can tune the power limit however. Don't really need it. A lot of older games on 1080P Utilize 50% GPU give or take. (what I'm using right now) But for confusion purposes, I meant a less powerful Like IPC or epeen GPU size power.

Go 21:9. Everything is trending towards that similar to how 16:9 gobbled up 16:10 similar to how that gobbled up 12:10.
Aspect ratio you mean? Really, I didn't realize there's a trend there.

Fixed the title

Are you using MSI Afterburner ? If yes did you unlock the Voltage? (because the option is not enabled by default)
