The Team Group AirFlow I SSD Cooler offers a powerful solution for managing the heat output of M.2 SSDs. It comes with a large cooling stack and two heatpipes. Testing in our review confirms that it is able to completely avoid throttling on the most powerful 14 GB/s Gen 5 drives.

:kookoo: :roll: :roll::roll: Just no.
Do they expect people to not have a GPU just to use this, or move the drive to a lower slot under the GPU?

On most(?) motherboards the primary M.2 is above the CPU, but I get your point. Updating the review

I remember seeing similar M.2 coolers on aliexpress from other vendors. Its interesting even these large heatsink fans are borderline in terms of handling gen 5 M.2 drives.

What's the recommended PSU for this thing? 850W is enough?,This is getting ridiculous...

These heatsinks are so ridiculous, but I actually love them. Big "tower heatsink on a Raspberry Pi" energy.

In the past we encountered SSD coolers with "heatpipes" that were really just a bent rod of thick metal. We can confirm that Team Group is using real heatpipes.

Not really. Youve just confirmed that THIS PARTICULAR SAMPLE is using real heatpipes.

Manufacturers can still do the switcheroo after the first lot of review samples have gone out or after the first few batches are done and the product has already been distributed and being sold.

My Thermalright HR-09 Pro arrived today so I should be able to have some Gen 4 results for that when i get around to fitting it.

Wonder who had that great idea to paint the heatpipes black, like they're visible from under the cooler.

It probably saved T-Force time and effort in the powder coating booth. Thats like an entire one or two steps they can out of the manufacturing process. Paint is also quite cheap.

No thanks, I'll just wait for newer gen SSDs which won't need the extra cooling. Haven't even switched to PCIE 4.0 platform yet, let alone 5.0...

you are going to be in for an awfully long wait.

Do you mean bellow the CPU? I don't think I have saw motherboard with M.2 above the CPU, there are VRMs and the 8pin power connector for the CPU, so the space is restricted. Then if you mean the M.2 above the GPU, there is rarely enough space for such tall M.2 cooler if you are not with water cooling for the CPU or some small cooler

MP700 PRO SE M.2 SSD (no included heatsink, separate cooler required)

There is something wrong. Rounded up - 12 Watts should be easily passive cooled.

who's fault is it?
  • Corsair making false statements / no statements / or hidding behind the "average" power consumption
  • bad design on corsair side for the hardware
  • very bad and poor cooler performance from this review

I also wonder why this drive needs a Windows or a Mac OS operating system license to work.

According to Corsair the drive should malfunction at 80°C. Therefore the blue graph should be a line at 0MB/s.

I assume when I look at the graphs and the cooler itself - the Wattage should be much more as the 11.5 Watts.

I suspect the real issue is getting the heat to the heatsink. The controller is super tiny and getting heat out of it is a PITA.

You left out the cooling of the stock MB M.2 cooling heatsink.
This thing would never fit under my air cooler NH-U14S.

That's the graph with the bare SSD (no cooler attached). It somehow figures. Assuming it takes 20 seconds (hard to read from the graph) to get the SSD from 40°C to 80°C, with a guesstimated specific thermal capacity of 1000 J/(kgK) that would give you 20W. So ~ right. Assuming the specific thermal capacity is not completely off, also assuming that the SSD distributes heat evenly (certainly not lol).

When looking at such devices, one should also note that 20s @ 12GB/s is 240 GB. Practical _consumer_ use case? Such devices surely need a small passive heatsink, basically to get the heat capacity up, but that's about it.

Physical size is about the same as that of a SATA or U.2 SSD. Two of them if they are the thinner 7 mm variants, including space for airflow.

This only validates the use of these sticks. If I ever use them it is going to be outside of the rig. It's just too damned hot for me to use.

Impressive!
I might buy one of these when I get to gen5 PCIe SSD
My only concern is if it fit between my board and Dark Rock Pro 5
Even the board has an fan connector nearby

Gen4 is fine with heat and fast enough for the next 15 years.

I don't see the reviewed T-Force Dark SSD cooler for sale on Amazon or Newegg.
I can find the Thermalright H10 2280 Pro on Amazon. but Amazon states it's a frequently returned item.
