Still have this system. Purchased it when it was almost new. Bought from a member here on TPU years ago. A lot of memories with this laptop.
It still runs great and the battery still holds a good charge.

Yea I got to clean that thing one day. And yes the joystick has Game port with a usb adapter on it.

OH! I had a very similar model of those Gateway FX Laptops. It was a proper desktop replacement! Beautiful screen, excellent specs and big enough to be very usable. Mine was a P-7908U which had a Core2Quad Q9100, Geforce 9800M 1GB and 4GB of DDR3-1333. I was still running XP at the time. Very good laptop! I miss it.

The basic GF2 MX (32MB, 128bit SDR) was my first gaming-capable GPU and oh boy did I play with it! OC'd pretty well too, I remember MacGyvering something for cooling as it had only a tiny heatsink at stock.

I always did that. Everything got a custom heatsink+fan combo BITD.

I got a third-party little copper cooler for it, remember filing it as one component was in the way. :laugh:

I actually have a similar cooler on my GF3 Ti 200 these days as its original cooler was crap

I used Socket7 heatsinks or chipset heatsinks with 60mm or 80mm fans.

One classic thing was also using those universal northbridge heatsinks and MacGyvering a fan to it

I'm not sure if this is really "nostalgic" but it's old enough i bought it purely for collecting purposes. A GPU that's been fairly high on my wishlist for awhile. Sapphire R9 290x Vapor X 8GB

The 8gb version of this card is very difficult to find at this point, and for me it had to he a Vapor X because of how it looks.

And yeah, it works perfectly.

I have an Asus Z97-AR but the dude said that it may be dead and.... you guess. No sign of any life, the socket is fine and tried with several DDR3 sticks. To the bin it goes, fuck.

Dug the Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA from my closet and I'll be putting a rig together soon. Put already a 955BE to it, need to grab some RAM as well.

I'm actually interested how that Radeon 7000 performs, I know that it's a crappy card (even back in the day) but I've never owned one myself.

edit: no POST. Need to try another CPU and different DDR2. At least the card works since it POSTed on my NF2 board.
edit2: works after trying few different DDR2 sticks. That board is somewhat picky what it comes to RAM

now installing WinXP with 955BE, 4GB & R7000. Made a reverse sleeper since it's in a modern-ish Fractal Focus G case.
