If i can score a second hand 4090 for less than 1K I would, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.
not spending +€2500 even if I were to win a lottery (this statements would end if the Euro were to plunge even deeper in worthlessness and devalue 75% or something)

4090s sold in the rush are gonna be some of the best deals since that time people rushed to sell their 1080 Ti's waiting for the 2080 Ti, I strongly suggest you start looking, because chances are very high you will score something

I just sold my 4080 lol

Thinking about it, depends on what prices actually end up at and how the waterblock situation works out.

(don't remember before this)
7700k / gtx 1080
7700k / gtx 2080ti (a gift, I wouldn't have upgraded this soon)
7950x3d / gtx 2080ti

Looking at Zen 6 for my next possible cpu upgrade, assuming it does in fact stay on AM5.

Right now no schedule for a 1440p or 2160p monitor, nor using a 2160p tv for gaming, so no need for a high-end GPU. A few months later the 3060 ti will move to a new built, after all it’s only used by the boys anyway.

Not a chance that card will be well over $3K with taxes here That's more way more then I spent on the rest of the computer. And what do I need it for I'll be happy with a 5070 Ti or maybe a 5080. Depends on prices here None of the 50 series have even been listed at any Canadian retailer that I can find so far.

I'm definitely buing 5090, but not now, mayby in half a year. I have now 4080 super and for playing games it is completely enough. With DLSS even in 4K in all ultra in probably all known to me games it gives good performance. But for Blender(etc) and AI powered apps like ComfyUI 4080S is absolute trash, rendering/generating times are so pathetic that it is not even funny

I'm waiting for reviews but I doubt I will be pulling a trigger on a 5090. Im ok with my 6900xt and if that one gets a bit slow then I can consider buying something but, it will be something with a good value not just highest performance. If i were to buy NV it would have been 5070ti I suppose

we'll see what happens, but I'm rather disappointed by what 5070ti shapes up to be, and that was meant to be my pick (counted on it beating 4080S though). I have very little time to play these days, so I think maybe next year, provided there's a blackwell refresh worth a damn, or even later when we see vera rubin/udna1 generations.

I have little time to play as well. If I were to get an NV gpu it would be still 5070Ti but it will depend on AMD. If i could get something like 7900xtx for lower price than current 7900xtx price and 5070 TI's price I would go for AMD. It's just what I would do but it does not seem I will do it anyway. My gametime is 1h-2h a week nowadays. Sometimes i dont touch my computer. Last year I did not switch my pc on for 4 consecutive months. I just did have time. Buying something and playing with it is a waste of money.

It's not that crazy. ;) Here's mine:

Celeron MMX 300 MHz / S3 ViRGE 4 MB PCI
Athlon 64 3000+ / Radeon 9600 XT 128 MB -> Radeon X800 XT -> GeForce 7800 GS AGP
Core 2 Duo E8400 / GeForce 9600 GT
Core i3-4130 / GTX 750 Ti
AMD FX-8150 / Radeon HD 7770 -> 7870 -> 7970
Core i5-5500U / GTX 950M
Core i7-7700 / GTX 1060 -> 1660 Ti
Ryzen 9 5950X / Radeon RX 5700 XT -> RX 6750 XT
Core i7-11700 / RTX 2070 (it died)
Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Radeon RX 7800 XT (I sold it because I needed cash, now back on the 6750 XT).

This isn't an exhaustive list - I've also had several laptops and small PCs as well. I also currently have two HTPCs, one with the 11700, and the other with an i7-4765T.

No, I'm not planning on a 50-series card.
The 5070 has only 12 GB RAM, and I'm not paying more for a GPU. I'm currently waiting for RX 9070 XT reviews to drop, and if it's any good, I'll get one, and call it quits on my upgrades for a while.
remains me my story a lot, lol. it's ok.

I understand that the 9700XT is not going to be 400w GPU. I was not talking about 7900xtx as a GPU, but rather the performance metric of a 7900xtx with the new AMD GPU's which is going to be 9700XT.

7900xtx at 650eur with 330w power and fsr4 will be a BOMB. Even at 700eur.

a fast search over ebay & geizhals.de make me think h100 & sxm are available in Europe right now, and pro users already have them, together with other gpus, thus demand for 5090 excepting 1% of european steam shouldn't be that high.
some reasons you might not want to buy 1 x rtx 5090 if will be in stock
for pro use vram isn't as great as is seems. you barely run 70b offloaded to vram which isn't great for a premium price thus another gpu or mixed of gpus be a better choice
pci 5.0 thus maximize it means platform change and costs - probably extra 1,000 euro/$
psu requirements. not all of us have 1.200 w atx 3.0 3.1. I have 850w, thus running at 70% is best I can do without upgrade. a fast reasearch on 1200w atx 3.1 is 275 eur ($282)
price: aib's will be very expensive at "street price"
heat in summer: at 700w I don't want to stay in same room with a porsche 911, even it's liquid cooled. we'll sweat like in 90's lan parties

Whats your gpu history and will you be getting a RTX 5090 or any 50 series for that matter?
I vaguely recall my very first GPU being a Tseng Labs ET2000 in glorious 64-colour EGA, paired with a 286 CPU and MS-DOS 2.0. WAY too many to list since then even ignoring those new-fangled 'ATI' and nVidia things... :D

As for RTX 5090, I've long stepped out of the flagship rat-race and am not interested in the slightest. If lower end GPU's show an (unlikely) architectural improvement maybe, otherwise I think it's quite normal & healthy to no longer need to upgrade every gen.

I completely agree. Back in my HD 7970 days, I needed the grunt to play the latest games (The Witcher 3) at 1080p high detail because that was the top resolution (not to mention I could afford it on a student loan). Regular Joes with midrange cards were on 900p and below. Nowadays, you have 4K and higher monitors, but the resolution race has crossed the line into diminishing returns territory long ago. If you have a reasonably sized 1440p, chances are you'll never have to upgrade it again. And since it's considered the Regular Joe resolution of our day and age, you're fine with a midrange graphics card.

I'd go with the 9700XT with a up to 250W power and a performance of a 7900xtx for below $700. RT not as relevant to me as to other people.
