People can talk about % all they want this product will live or die based on what AMD prices it at. If they think they can get away with pricing like Nvidia it will die if they've learned from the 7900XT and 7700XT it's got a chance to be a decent product.
It depends on what are you looking at for example RX 7800 XT was complete opposite to that.

I'f I'm not mistaken 5090 die is 750mm so reticle limit of what is currently possible. The only way forward for 6090 is to go MCM.
If rumours are true and UDNA will be next AMD arch and they will go back to high end/ enthusiast then it's safe to assume that they will also use MCM as in Instinct cards.
Then those 50% or more gains of perf are possible. Only limit will be how much they will want to and be able to compete.

The 7800XT would have been more exciting if it wasn't so late to the party... The 4070 was on the maket for 5 months already....

If they repeat this it doesn't matter if it's OK it's too late.

Looks like it's indeed 50% faster than the 7800xt RT and Raster combined average. Looks like it's coming at the same time as the 5070. If the price is right, we are going to experience first hand if the market is under green psychosis or not.

But my theory is that someone is going to say they saw a blemish in a cloud with FSR4 from JarrodsTech and buy the 5070 for less perfomance.

I would call it more simply a "green idiot magnet" don't get me wrong this theory only works if the p/p ratio is at the level of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB or RTX 4070 12GB.

Oh I forgot, according to someone here, AMD needs to price it at the 4060 price and sell it for a major loss to gain mind share or they are dumb.

Exactly what I'm expecting myself. Reviews will list "but but DLSS" as a negative, and that's it.

I still do because you clearly misunderstand me.

Their claims:
1. "I want +50% every gen."
2. "I want a 650 dollar GPU that's two times faster than a 6800 XT."

I only calculated how and why these statements are not contradicting themselves. I have never said a word about +50 or whatever being rational or not. And if you ask my opinion (I know you don't), no, +50% generational uplift is boring. Once they pull 80+ I'll be excited.

Their claim was a 9070XT has to be twice the performance of a 6800XT. It’s not going to be, no company is providing that uplift with their new generation; it’s an unreasonable expectation that would far exceed the hardware specs. The question of whether or not it was reasonable was the point or beginning of the argument. But again, here you are discussing something else that wasn’t the point - whether or not it’s realistic for a 9070XT to actually be 200% of the performance given what we know.

You’re in for a lot of boring hardware releases in the future if that’s your bar.

Not just that, it was barely faster than the 6800XT and in odd occasions got beaten.

The only way this timeframe makes sense is if they are not fully ready with FSR4 and maybe the drivers are not completely 100% ironed out, so they are taking additional time to iron out all of the kinks, fully optimize FSR4 and have a really really smooth release in early March.

I still think this is a missed opportunity, but maybe they just want to make the launch as perfect as possible and make sure there is tons of these in stock, make sure the drivers are 100% perfect and make sure FSR4 is fully optimized and ready!

That's because of stupid naming it was a 6700XT replacement masquerading as a 800 card not that AMD has been very consistent with naming anyway...

Around it's launch the 6700XT was 300-330 usd they likely didn't want it compared at 500 vs that hence it got named like the similarly priced at the time 6800XT.

A bit misleading averages tells more story.

RX 7800 XT 499$ on average is 3% faster than RX 6800 XT 649$ and 9% faster in RT.

They're not in the same league. The $499 7800 XT is the successor of the $479 6700 XT, not the much more expensive 6800 XT.

The problem was the 6800XT was 500 ish and the 6700XT was 300 ish when it launched. Making the comparison mute for either for amd anyways.

They were in a lose/lose proposition either way no matter what they named it. It ended up going ok becuase 40 series was so meh in general although not meh enough according to people who actually buy gpus

The 6700 XT had a launch MSRP of $479. A whopping 20 bucks less than the 7800 XT.

AMD shot themselves in the foot by calling it an x800 series card. It's not.

Exactly. Your average forum user has AMD derangement syndrome and the only way for AMD to gain mindhsare and marketshare is to give these cards out for free and even then they have to be 15% faster than their nvidia namesakes and offer more vram and offer better drivers and offer useless AI "feautres" that no one uses and there is no actual use for and even then the green team is better, because they represent the color green and we all know green is the new trendy color, everything is green, grass is green, leaves are green, green future, etc... right?

Everything Ngreedia has done for the past 7 years is sell snake oil, sell you "features" because they want to become a software company, because they don't make good hardware anymore. Everything they do is overpriced, every generation is single digits improvements, etc... So they have to sell you fake frames, fake resolution, fake AI bullshit, fake quality, fake everything.

Yes but the 6700XT at 480 would have been a huge ass bust if not for covid and its tanking to 300 usd reflects that.

When (or where) did it tank? I bought my reference 6750 XT in Nov '22 (1.5 years after the 6700 XT released) for £480, and it was the cheapest 6700 series card at that time.

That's just not true, it performed like $479 vs the $499 3070 and $399 3060ti.
It's the predecessor to the 7800xt which came out at $499 which guess what ... performs around the 4070. What is this bust?

This is actually the reason I think strongly that the 9070xt which is the spiritual successor the 7800xt will launch for $20 more than the 7800xt. $519.

It was 9% faster at 1440p vs 3060ti at it's launch for 20% more money when's the last time an AMD card would sell priced like that it.

If people seriously believe the 9070xt will have a 4080 performance for $550, I've got a bridge to... yeah, that one's getting old quickly lately.

Though I've had some 9070xt thoughts about a week ago.

AMD is obviously waiting for Nvidia to make the first move so that they can undercut them, so who knows where the card will land in price, as well as performance. All we have is rumours that personally, I don't give much credit to.

Everyone knows how it performs other than AMD apparently at the very least they don't want to tell anyone how it performs.

I hope for the mental state of a lot in this thread that it actually ends up decent them holding it back to launch aftet the 5070 isn't exuding confidence... They probably want to price it as high as possible and just want Nvidia to go first.

Its fun to speculate but this card is either gonna be a turd or awesome based on its price.

It's gonna be a nice collector's piece in either case. When you look at the box on your shelf 10 years later and think "hmm, that launch was really something, oh yeah". :D

I know, I'm weird.
