Also it confirms whatever I thought about Blackwell. Just Ada on 'roids. +33% cores make for +33% additional performance, what a surprise.

I guess 5070 could've been interesting if it had at least 58 SMs. With 48, it'll just be a 4070 Super in disguise.

According to the review there are only three GPUs that are more efficient per frame.
Correct. I think people confuse absolute power draw with efficiency

Same power efficiency while drawing 42% more power (referencing the gaming results, 587/411W), 22% bigger chip, the performance uplift is around the same percentage increase as the physical chip. The only saving grace is the faster memory allowing for better performance at higher resolutions.

I can't say I'm impressed or disappointed, it's about what I expected.

It still fails then, the 5090 in gaming is drawing 42% more power for 25% more performance, according to TPU graphs. That's.......not good.
TPU has an efficiency graph, it looks like its at the top alongside the 4080. It's not an improvement over last gen in that regard, but not a regression either. I'd like to see it limited to something more reasonable.

That's the current street pricing. Just pop over to your favorite etailer to confirm.
I pay in € and the price here is a bit different, seems like the 4090 is more scarce in america

So +35% over 4090, pretty good. Considering it's CPU limited a lot of times, this is better than expected actually.

I sw that graph, but I seriously disagree with it.

Gaming power use, the 4090 sits at 411 watt, and the 5090 at 587. That's a 42% increase.

then on the performance charts, we see a 26% average increase at 4k.

so something doesnt add up.
94*C on the memory in just gaming and people are saying the cooler performance is good?

What kind of drugs are you guys on
Context is a difficult thing to grasp.

For a 2 slot cooler to be managing a card pulling damn close to 600w is nothing short of a miracle.

@W1zzard Are you planning to include older cards on this list?
Like 3080 / 7900 Xt and newer? :toast:
Also would love to have more detail on the LLM, like How many B params and quantities
Also Llama 3.1 is quite old, newer models are more efficient.
Also would suggest to use the token/s instead the total time.

Raster performance uplift at 35%, compared to last gen RTX 3090 Ti -> RTX 4090 at 51% is not impressive, especially if you consider there was no RTX 4090 Ti.

From RTX 2080 Ti to RTX 3090 is even greater step, 70%! So, half the performance uplift after two generations!

This is an RTX 4090 Ti Super OC.

:p

yes, just no time yet

I specifically picked a popular model that fits into 8 GB, so that otehr cards aren't punished just becuase they dont have 8957849654 GB of VRAM

A whopping 40+dB noise from the 5090FE cooler
Not acceptable for a 2000$ card in 2025
They should have sticked with bigger and silent cooling design
But then people would whine the cards are too big and heavy and why dont we have dual slot coolers, ece. See all the complaining over the 4000s.

You cant please everyone. Personally I like they did a dual slot cooler, we will have no shortage of XXX XTREME 5090 OC XTXXXX SC edition" cards with 4 slots and 12 fans that can cool a reactor. AIBs were not big on smaller designs.

I was hoping for a ~30% power efficiency improvement (in the absolute best case) and ~20% realistically given the expected (almost) same node process, but seeing the TDP increase from 450W (4090) to 575W (5090) was already not a good sign. Instead it's worse than 4070 Super, 4080, 4080 Super(, and 4070 non-Super and 4070 Ti Super, according to another source) and only about equal to a 4090 .. gg. Had the 5070 3GB modules / 18GB VRAM I might have considering upgrading from my 4070 (the 4070 with its 12GB runs out of VRAM when enabling even the Medium Path Tracing (Full Ray Tracing) setting in Indiana Jones And The Great Circle). Maybe I'm going to see what the Refresh brings next year.

True good thing there will be many AIB models to choose from :) i'll go that route for sure, FE is excluded in my list.

Pass. Waiting for 60-series.

Nvidia needs a node shrink, price reduction and something other than fake frames to make me wanna buy their next higher tier GPU.

I’d have loved to see what they could have come up with if their engineers were given 3-slot budget for the cooler.

I'd assume that the power draw is measured at heavy games. Some games are GPU bound and don't show a performance difference, that's why the average is 26%.

The best thing about blackwell is....everything but blackwell. Quoting the review

" The image quality is so good, "Quality" looks like native, sometimes better. There is no more flickering or low-res smeared out textures on the horizon. Thin wires are crystal clear, even at sub-4K resolution! You really have to see it for yourself to appreciate it, it's almost like magic. The best thing? DLSS Transformers is available not only on GeForce 50, but on all GeForce RTX cards with Tensor Cores!'

Can't wait to use it

That is fair, tho would be nice to measure up with larger models, since you paying the extra for the 20-24-32GB VRAM,
You should consider to check with larger models too!
Also would suggest to use the token/s instead the the simple total time, since the model might answer your question differently (shorter or longer time)
