When the next-generation AMD Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs, headed by RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, are surrounded by rumors, AMD's officials are coming to the rescue. According to the Bulgarian retailer's disclosure, AMD's initial pricing strategy for the new cards caused concerns, given their reported performance levels. The RX 9070 XT was reportedly positioned at around $899, matching the price point of the RX 7900 XT. The standard RX 9070 was said to carry a $749 price tag. To clarify the situation, AMD's Frank Azor jumped on social media platform X and explained, "While we aren't going to comment on all the price rumors, I can say that an $899 USD starting price point was never part of the plan."

Earlier reports indicate AMD has distributed its first wave of RDNA 4 graphics cards to various partners and retailers globally. However, these companies are currently unable to sell the new GPUs, as AMD has apparently set a March timeline for their release. This information gained additional credibility when a retailer in Bulgaria provided insights into AMD's preliminary launch strategy for the RX 9000 series. The retailer demonstrated the PowerColor Red Devil RX 9070 XT, one of three RX 9070 XT models that PowerColor unveiled during CES. While several AMD board partners have completed their RX 9070 XT designs, they have not yet disclosed official specifications or retail prices. Until March, we have limited information on pricing strategy.

Suuuuuure, they totally didn't get "jebaited" by nvidia actually charging less msrp for some 50series cards instead of going up.

They did basically cancel the launch and push it back a couple months likely after finding out the 50 series was going to be cheaper than expected... Now they have a bunch of angry retailers and distributors that can't sell stock they already have. I wouldn't expect any of them to be overly happy there are already rumors of fighting about pricing that now that AMD is seemingly going to lower the msrp they want rebates etc.

I expect more leaks like this the longer AMD goes without saying anything.

They didn't cancel the launch. They just didn't do it. They never said it would happen at CES, we just kind of expected it (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The rest is rumours and speculation.

They accidently releases slides showing 9000 series now available lmao on the 23rd smh.

This whole thing has been a circus and one of the oddest gpu launches I can remember.

They sent us a CES pre-brief press deck under embargo with the launch materials for these cards

Yeah the original MSRP was 849$ :slap:
Show em azor

It's better to just come clean or say nothing at all. Way to put water on a grease fire.

Or you know just say what they are going to be priced at unless their plan is just to price them as close to the 70 series as possible like everyone expects.... They know when pre orders are gonna start but can't share actual perfomance or pricing....

They sent us a CES pre-brief press deck under embargo with the launch materials for these cards

There has gotta be a slide somewhere showing original pricing... I really hope it gets leaked lol.

Not in the deck that they gave to us. The board partners knew various (high, unrealistic) price points though, some were leaked

lol, amd is following nvidia footsteps, what a shame, they should have already disclosed the price, nvidia gpus performance is out there everybody knows its a failure and so this new amd's gpu, all a failure.

I can tell you with great confidence and reliable information the official price was 849 +- 30$ for the 9070XT and 700$ for the non XT model.

It wasn't 849 set in stone, it was 819 to 879 - depending on what nvidia would show. They were expecting the 5070ti between 899 and 949$.

I'm really interested to see reviews for these at this point even more so than the rest of the 50 series mostly out of curiosity... I'm either going to read them and go that makes sense or WTF AMD these were good enough to just launch lol either way I got my popcorn ready for the comment sections.

That's the impression I'm getting as well there seems to be too much drama behind the scenes over what is essentially some mid range gpus.

AMD making it hard to be a fan since 2020. Especially that guy (Azor) in the marketing dep, like oh my freaking god. "We are not going to launch 1k $ cards".

Because AMD is trying to be technically correct. Yes, the plan wasn't 899, it was up to 879$. So they aren't lying, but they are also missing the point.

Hey even if the cards on both sides aren't very interesting at least all this drama is entertaining... Something new leaks out every week it seems.....

I'm mildly interested in how the 5070ti ends up and at what street price but it'll be just as fascinating after all this to see how the 9070XT is priced and how it performs.

It's probably the worst GPU generation I ever remember. Maybe ampere was worse but that was due to mining + covid, leaving those aside, this is just nuts. AMD and Nvidia fighting hard about who's worst, yes, it is entertaining. Im pretty confident sales will be way down this generation, but the question is are they gonna care or is AIAIAIAIAI where all their income comes from?

On the one hand, technically correct is the best kind. On the other - I remember insane cope rumors of AMD sticking to 400-500 price point and totally going for the mainstream appeal. Welp. They never learn.

It's probably the worst GPU generation I ever remember.
Ehhhhh, dishonorable shout out to the FX 5000 series. I think that still takes the worst crown, at least on NV side. That, or first gen Fermi.

See someone should've stuck a stick with cloning software to grab the OS image from those FSR "research project" PC's to grab the driver. Welp too late now.

Imagine powercolor and sapphire, they have designed a high end PCB, cooler, fans - for a card that is going to be 900+, and then amd said - well, you know what, let's make it 600 :banghead:

Explains those 3x8pin cards

Just when you think it couldn't get more interesting, it does. I'm starting to think the Radeon group product group just needs to be completely cleaned of house and rebuilt from the ground up, maybe pinch people from the Ryzen group?

Yup. just look at the MBA RX 9070 XT card. That card is not looking like it's a $499 model like the RX 7800 XT. It a premium triple fan cooler with a nice shroud. Not some basic dual fan design. This card is designed with a much higher price point in mind than $499 or even $599...
