5080 can overclock 400 MHz, so +15% performance.

If performance scaled liniarly with clocks, which it doesnt.
It scales when vram bandwidth is not bottleneck. What was 4080 vram bandwidth?

So I know this small but local Aussie PC Store invisible to bots. They had have stock of the Palit version roughly 3100 USD / 4900 AUD over 48hrs. One sold yesterday and one today. This kinda showed me the true level of FOMO without bot influence..

Last time I flushed my money down the toilet a high end graphics card didn't appear?

That sort of performance was high-end with Ada. Now with Blackwell, it is questionable.

Edit: Let me just drop this here. It's the average of GPU specs you've been getting relative to the top card since Kepler compared to Blackwell.

Edit 2: Now someone tell me that a x70 class card masquerading as a 5080 is worth $3100.

I wonder........ the rest of that video that talks extensively about inflation costs, material costs, wafer costs, production costs and so on, if any of that is considered when saying that people;
are more desperate to flush their money down the toilet
......

Look, the 5090 and 5080 are not good value. I 100% agree. When we compare them to products of old, especially circa a decade ago, there's no question, they cost more, disproportionately more even relative to the top chip and top of a generation when we even consider all the variables.

But flushing money down a toilet? No. 5090 and 5080 buyers have not flushed their money down the toilet. They got products for that money.

Could they have not bough them? sure.
Could they have gotten more value in an older GeForce or... dare I say Radeon product? sure.

Did they flush their money down the toilet? No.

They paid a premium for the newest tech, with the newest features, that will supported longer, and likely age better.

I can't say I'm raving from the rooftops about the 50 series, quite the opposite even, check my post history to confirm. But a 5090 or 5080 buyer didn't flush their money down the toilet any more than a 4090, 7900XTX, 6900XT, 5700XT, 2080Ti, 980Ti etc etc buyer did (and I'd say, they all didn't)

Did you see the post I was replying to? A 5080 selling for the equivalent of 3,100 USD. Now tell me that's not the same as flushing money down the toilet.

I think it's really weird how you agree they are not good value, but you go on a long tangent and take offense to him saying it's like flushing money down the toilet, which is obviously dramatic effect. Does it really bother you that much?

It's easier if you forget that 5090 even exists then you don't have to compare the spec in percentages. It's unobtainable and in a class of its own aimed at enthusiastic fathers of two with deep pockets that have time for his hobby once a week for bragging rights whatever the wasteful reason may be. People sleeping in front of the store is not normal. It wouldn't even occur to me to wait in line more than 5 minutes for this but 5080 is still the top card maxing out at the psychological 999, when the supply and demand finds equilibrium of course. Right now is a shameful display.

This hobby got invaded by all sorts, miners, scalpers, importers so people are resorting to extremes.. if you take them out of the picture.. its really business as usual. I am a well off father of two so you nailed it on the head but I game every night with my wife as soon as my kids go to bed, we are building a 5090 and 5080 system together and its peak fun.

Saying it’s wasteful is not true for everyone who enjoys this as a hobby and is spending within their means. Yes the prices suck and there are scum everywhere, but that isn’t going to stop me.

Yup, people who are not buying should not be concerned in the slightest what other people spend their money on.

Even if I forget about the 5090, I still can't go by the fact that the 5080 offers the same performance at the same price as the 4080 Super. Zero generational uplift in either performance or price.

Besides, I was talking about the one selling for $3,100 in one of the posts above. Geez, guys, just read my post properly, will 'ya? Or do you think buying a 5080 for that much is normal? :(

They shouldn't expect a pat on the back, either. Criticizing 1k, 2k, 3k graphics purchases should be encouraged.

Ok, but try to buy a 4080 right now. If you can find one it is so far over MSRP that is isn't even worthy of consideration. What does that leave you to buy? A 5080.

Again: for $3100? Is really such an act seriously being encouraged here? I'm speechless.

At such a price range? Nothing.

I understand that making GPUs has become more expensive, but the need to make those expensive GPUs comes from the fact that people buy them. If the popular answer wasn't "I'll just throw more money at it" for every single GPU-related question, then maybe Nvidia and AMD would actually have to innovate instead of doing the same: throwing more money at the problem. Just a thought.

No one is putting a gun to anyone's head that you have to spend 2k to get 10-15fps more on 4k. It's not sane and it's not a hobby. Just because it's the fastest, you are compelled to buy it?

I think they are just as pissed off as everyone else at all the greedy hands in this hobby right now, I dont think they expect a pat on the back or are directly encouraging these prices either. Scalpers with bots are directly to blame right now. Its hard times, the root cause are still corpos and those trying to get rich quick.. people who buy from scalpers keeps the engine running though.

I am poor for now, 3100usd can buy me a car to drive into the ground for a couple of years.

Just because you and I do not have this kind of money to throw around, doesn't mean that there aren't people are are willing..

If I was younger and without a family and obligations, I would spend the coin. Not on a 5090.. unless I made some good deals to bump up the pot.

That's a loaded question, who is "you"? What is the monitor of this "you", what games are "you" playing.

Just because there are people willing to throw $3100 at a $1000 graphics card, it doesn't mean such behaviour should be encouraged instead of being called total idiocy which it is.

Again.. if you don't have a card, what are you going to buy?
Any other graphics card that sells for its actual price. The 7900 XTX can be had for £860 at Scan UK, for example. Don't tell me that a 5080 is worth 3 times more.

No one is putting a gun to anyone's head that you have to spend 2k to get 10-15fps more on 4k. It's not sane and it's not a hobby. Just because it's the fastest, you are compelled to buy it?

I think youre assuming everyone already owns a 4090. Try going from no graphics card maybe? A used 4090 is over 3400 aud - a 5090 can be purchased at 4100 aud provided you have the patience. A 4080 is sold at up to 1700 aud.. a 5080 starts at 2000 aud which is almost as fast as a 4090. The entire market is in the shitter, again blame the scalpers not the hobbyists.

Look at my post above: How about a 7900 XTX for 860 GBP?

It's not the market, but Nvidia's artificial stock manipulation.

It is totally a regional thing. 7900XTX is almost 1600 for me, plus tax.
