Starting my AM5 build

I also have the red one. IT was cheaper.

A little bit of paste get*S in between the red aluminum part and the processor.

I would not call it cosmetic. Less thermal paste where you do not want it. A better cpu socket. Picture was taken while changing from noctua to be quiet cpu tower cooler.

If the cpu is more flat in the socket I will not comment. Or if the aluminum around the processor acts a bit more as a passive cooler.

Definitely worth spending that ~10€

well, I have had B560 Steel Legend. Well-priced, but low-to-mid-grade overall. A lot of fancy stickers and useLESS cr*p inside the box. I think their "PRO" line-up are better price-to-features...

I'm not sure if it has been suggested or not, but some models in MSi's Pro line of motherboards (the ones with VRM heatsinks) are actually quite good for the price.

With that said, I'm not doing any extreme overclocking, so my definition of "quite good" means running any CPU at stock, no excessive heat on the VRM, basic EXPO support, a decent BIOS, and enough USB ports.

I have good faith in ASrock. My Asrock 990FX Extreme 4 is still working... after 12 years of use and abuse. I have taken A B550 extreme 4 as well for my current machine lol.

Not that it matters.. I don't have a CPU or ram picked out yet.

I was thinking 9900X3D and a set of C26 Royals whenever they make an appearance..

You'd be much better off with a 9800x3d if it's for gaming.

ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI | Gaming motherboards｜ROG - Republic of Gamers｜ROG Global

It was only about 50 bucks more than the 650E -F, and I can use all of my NVMe drives now heheh.

I actually have 5, so I can use the bottom pcie slot too

Amazon had a sale awhile back on SN770 for 65 beaver bucks each, so I bought 3 lol..

This board is heavy lol.. to get the new model is almost twice the price, that is crazy and I am cheap.

Deffo not worth getting the new version - it's the same chipset just with a new name.

Just gotta flash bios with newest version before you boot up the system.

i would highly recommend flashing the newest bios prior to booting it up regardless though - countless of improvements, also to performance and stability

9800/9950X3D, don't suffer with two 6 cores glued together unless you love manually setting process affinities.

Good choice with ASUS.

If you do buy GSKILL RAM, take it apart and put a thermal pad on the PMIC, none stock.

No need to buy GSKILL for C26 though, they're all the same die. Any A die will do 6000/26.

I did 6200/26 on M die.

Dominator Titanium 64 GB kits are good. I bought a 6600 Intel White kit.

For cheap it's hard to beat patriot extreme and team group.

Corsair for aesthetics and good RGB, other two for Price/Perf.

If you just want easymode setup, then asus bios has "expo tweaked" mode for gskill ryzen memory, where asus has done a pre-tuning of all the sub timings. It's quite a bit faster than standard expo mode in cpu bottlenecked scenarios in my testing.

Since you're stuck in the 6000 MT range anyway for AMD, it's generally better to get dual rank sticks that have a lower frequency ceiling but better performance at iso freq/timings than single rank kits. So get 2*32 or 2*48.

Or one of those unicorn 2*16 dual rank kits but good luck finding.

As rock is my fave. They are so flexible. For example they are the only boards that support 120Hz on DP and HDMI on board ports. There is also the fact that the As Rock X870E Taichi is the cheapest high end board that has 2 PCIe lanes connected to the CPU.
