If only they announced performance and pricing 2-3 weeks ago I might have waited before buying a 5070TI.
Hard life lesson! nvidia is nvidia how much did you spent ?

Good cards, especially 9070xt. I'm buying one if FSR4 is as good and will be implemented in as many games as dlss4

9070xt for 600 is at least adding some competition in the market. Getting close to the 5070ti is an achievement, but similarly a 7900xt tweaked will do similar. They've just pushed the 9070xt out of the box so likely has zero headroom on top.

They've done it twice now (7800 vs 7700) but I don't understand why they're doing these $50 price gaps. It's not a meaningful difference and the nobody is going to buy the lower card at that price. Just drop it by another $50. You're going to have to within a month anyway, so why let everyone's review say that it's a bad value first?
It is weird that they make it unappealing rather than just stock out of it at 500 to avoid the bad press entirely. They probably only get 1 or 2 per 10 dies since yields are good and just want to upsell you anyways.

For me it's still way better than 649$ for RX 9070 XT and 499$ for RX 9070

AMD opting to go for performance comparison against 4 year old GPUs. Great! And to top it off majority of slides feature MBA designs that we were told were "only artist concept" which I strongly doubt.

I couldn't help but notice it as well, the marketing slides brag about 26% over the RTX 3090. TPU places the RTX 4080 at 30% over the 3090 (and in my estimates having owned both, this is roughly correct), with the 7900 XTX, 5080, 4090 and 5090 at 33, 46, 64 and 121% faster, respectively, which is just about enough to open a ~125% gap in performance between this product and the RTX 5090.

For me it's still way better than 649$ for RX 9070 XT and 499$ for RX 9070

At $499, the 9070 non XT would be probably one of the best GPU releases of all time. It's just not happening.

It seems they have made more architectural improvements than Nvidia which means Radeon is now close on both performance per watt and performance per area despite also using 4nm process like Nvidia. A 64 CU part is competitive with a 70 SM part.

I think market share will still be bad for AMD because they have no laptop GPUs.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
$549 9070 = DOA
$599 9070XT = Nod bad!
Yep, 9070 is going to be 15% slower than the XT, so it needs to be at least 15% cheaper because the performance/$ curve favours cheaper cards. Even $519 would be better than $549 because at least then it's not priced worse than the more expensive XT sibling.

This is the same dumbass, short-sighted greed that made the 7900XT a total failure at launch. The 7900XT was a similar 15% slower than the XTX so it needed to launch at 15-20% less. $800, a price it dropped to VERY QUICKLY after launch. Asking too much at launch, only to get forcibly corrected to a more realistic price by the market achieves absolutely nothing apart from bad PR. Every launch day review (which will stick around on the net for years to come) will be "good, but too expensive - buy something else". The 7900XT has been a great ~$700 purchase for the entirety of the 2024, it was never worth $900 and launch reviews and popularity of the card would have been far more favourable if the MSRP had been $799. The increased popularity likely would have kept cards flying off shelves, and prevented AMD and its partners from having to cut the price further to $700 and below, which is a long-term financial gain that AMD missed out on by overpricing at launch and burdening the 7900XT with bad reviews that lasted for the entire two years of sale.

TL;DR - The short-lived greed will seriously hurt sales of the 9070 throughout the entire sales lifespan of the GPU, even when the price drops.

Sadly endnote was missing in the AMD presentation.

While we have very little idea of what the OC was, this is kind of useful in regards to RT improvements (however pointless RT still remains).

TPU 5070ti Vanguard review puts 4k CP2077 RT performance at 30.6fps, and 20.2 for the 7900XTX. At 86% of a 5070ti the 9070XT would achieve ~26.3 FPS, which is 30% FASTER than the 7900XTX with 66% of the RT hardware. Thats a pretty massive gain if true.

Nice to see actual architectural improvements in a… new release.

I just looked through the presentation slides and the software stack included into the catalyst drivers is GREAT! If FSR4 works well, we are talking about the best launch in AMD GPU segment's history by far for both new and useful features and vfm (FPS/$).

It is weird that they make it unappealing rather than just stock out of it at 500 to avoid the bad press entirely. They probably only get 1 or 2 per 10 dies since yields are good and just want to upsell you anyways.
Or they aren't able to make many of those with good yields. Remeber that if sold for $500, they will need to have more to sell than the 9070XT ones and that is not possible with good yields. After 3 months maybe, but surely not at launch.

Personally I disagree, after reading all the material released today, I think that despite the lukewarm performance figures and the usual marketing blunders, there is a lot more to like than to dislike about it and reckon it's time to acknowledge the great gains in some of the auxiliary features that I have always defended NVIDIA over AMD for. Namely, the one I personally had the biggest bone to pick with: THEY FINALLY FIXED THE DOGSHIT ENCODER!

I'm a bit concerned about the emphasis in AI automation regarding driver optimization, and don't think it'll be a get out of jail free card, but they need some progress and using all tools at their disposal is acceptable to me. I'd contribute with their AI image analysis, and hope they ship ROCm or a client-tailored unified runtime soon. Someone's gotta light a fire under Nvidia's bum, and only AMD can do it.

Geforce 8 series was at it's prime where ~100% performance boost was nothing special so no you are wrong again! I never studied AMD history maybe there is something similar in history.

I don't see how a GPU family from 19 years ago has any bearing on a product today? The 9070 for 499 would be just tantalizing.

Much better than I expected but wow, RX 9070 for 550? Yeesh.. 9070XT looks interesting though. Interested to see FSR4 (even though I know it wont be beating DLSS4, but should be a far better match than prev gens)

edit: tired, put rdna4 instead of fsr4 lol

It's very strange but for example RX 7700 XT shows better market share than RX 7800 XT while RX 7800 XT is a better deal overall....... So RX 9070 will sell for 549$.

The new nomenclature makes it easier for customers to identify the RX 9070 series as competition to the RX 5070 series
maybe RTX?

Yes, it's what I said and you claimed I was wrong: even if the price isn't the best, if the product is competent, it will claw some market share. 549 isn't the optimal price, IMO it's 499, but it is not a bad product.

I'm happy for AMD today, I hope that it looks as good in practice as it does on paper.

Shocking development, immediately after AMD presentation a few big retailers suddenly have a lot of rtx 5080 and 5070 ti in stock, stores like pcgarage.ro and cel.ro now all have plenty of Nvidia in stock.

7700 XT slid to $380 and stayed there for a while so as a sub-$400 12GB card with decent performance it eventually competed on price/performance with the 7800 XT. Would be nice if AMD could get the tier-down model price right at launch for once though.
