The last thing taking over my life is a computer. What is this? The Matrix?

How about this: I live my own life, and not be fucked in the ass by Steve Jobs.

as you bow to bill gates and his proprietary formats?

Pot, meet kettle, I think you will be good friends.

Both companies will always keep their ways of trying to lock consumers in to using their product. Apple just designs one that makes the consumer satisfied with their purchase, rather than screwing them into being happy with it.

My iPhone and MacBook pro are the best electronics purchases I've made since my first iPod, apple will keep my business as long as they continue to suit my needs.

Colleges pushing apple products are brilliant. Not only will their networks slowly become more passivly secure, less virus ridden and their tech support will have time to actually improve the network rather than struggle to keep it up and working.

I still wouldn't suggest picking a school because of a computer, but hey, atleast the schools computer policy is public. That males me 3 times more comfortable choosing them rather than a school that forces dell or gateway laptops that are horrendus for their price.

And you know those schools are out there...

I don't miss direct x one bit, and I don't plan on going back to it.

Hehe, well direct x itself is a proprietary solution for keeping the market locked into direct x. Microsoft could have used Open GL primarily like everyone else, but instead they used direct x.

I like direct x, but I don't like how it is used by MS.

$25k for college fees, thats an insane amount!!! No wonder they can afford to give away iphones and mac notebooks to new students! More students = more profit!

In Ireland, if your lucky enough to get the grant for college, you dont pay anything.... otherwise its €825 for registration fees, that doesnt include room and board. Some college courses do cost alot more than that (masters, PhD etc) range in the thousands, that doesnt include room and board also........ but not $25k.... thats just nuts!!!

They have to bribe ppl to go there since they (especially students) are wising up about religion.

Isn't "Christian University" an oxymoron? There hasn't been a single group of people more against education, ever (not including the US gov't).

edit: Real education. Not distorted half-truths and blatant lies.

University will also offer students an iPhone or iPod touch, depending on whether they’re willing to pay the contract fees.

Contract fees huh?
Did noone else notice this at all?
Bah nothing ever is realy free now is it. They will always try to nickel and dime you no matter where you go. This is common in almost any kind of sale. XBOX LIVE, Wii Connect, Sony Marketplace, fellow employees begging for a quarter so they can buy a soda, etc. This just adds to it. lol

Not to sound like a hater, but notice both schools are church school, and what do churches ask for the most? Money. They could afford to buy us ALL MacBooks and iPhones. Sorry if I offend, but it's just a cheap way to save souls and recruit more pastors, lol.

No, please do. How is it full of it?

when you try to make a point, its usually better to state a fact rather than an opinion. I would love links that prove or disprove any of those points. actually, when I was in university our tech department switched to macs. they spent $20,000 to get a semi-functioning lab set up with more money set aside to complete it. within the month, before they ordered the rest of the macs, they put in another 40,000 to get a load of dells instead.

You guys... this isn't a FREE computer. Iphones and macbooks don't just grow on trees. It may seem free, but you will be paying for it with tuition fees++. You're basically forced to buy a computer may not want - unless you sell it on ebay, then it'll prob even things out.

Couple of thoughts:

1) Anything that entices a kid to go to college is a good thing.

2) Nothing is ever really free, so the tuition covers it I'm sure.

3) If these are future priests, I suggest offering them Wii's instead so maybe they'll be distracted enough to leave the kids alone.

Right, which is why Forester's "full of it" comment, equally has no merit.

seriously :)

I've seen first hand maintenance bills from maintaining 400 macs and 400 pc's. I signed quite a few of them.

Do it right and neither should run costs up immensely, but it all comes down to licensing and long term deployments, ease of security is a variable and is quite arguable in eithers favor depending on the softwares being used.. Barebones apple offers an all in one solution that's unified in its products, effective, easy to use and powerful.

When it comes to dumb students, I'd rather be a mac tech :) but to each his own, everyone has their own useage patterns, of which sometimes must include time for taking advil!

but all a macbook is, is a glorified dell same basic components but the dell uses windows and the mac uses OSX they both are about the same quality wise and dells cost less for the same system

hell i just put together a dell laptop with better specs for $200 less than a macbook pro and it includes all the adobe software and a tv tuner!

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...=browse&node=home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro

I have a hp laptop with half as many hours of use as my MacBook pro.

The hinges are loose, the keyboard keys are all starting to show wear from use, the trackpad has a circle worn in it, yet my MacBook pro still looks brand new.

That's well worth the $200 to me. When a product can be used for more than a year and still look new from dell, let me know :)

Design is my preference, but that's also why I wear a quality pear of cleats to play soccer in, I want my investment to remain reliable, so while my up keys are popping off, I'm still typing away happily :)
