Editorial Intel Gives its First Comments on Apple's Departure from x86

Wild haired future prediction: Apple eventually starts selling their last gen ARM silicon to 3rd parties (keeping newest for themselves) and ends up replacing Intel in the Wintel duopoly with Windows on ARM.

Apple to Launch Arm-Powered MacBook in the next 18 Months

The difference with WindowsRT is in the app stores. Apple already has an incredible amount of ARM based iOS apps that they've already done the ground work to make work in MacOS. I think if they're going to release an ARM powered MacOS device, they will not do it until they can offer the vast...

It's not the end of the world. YOU GUYS are new to Patreon too so I'm not shocked to see it. But that's why I wanted to point it out to others that might also be new to it. Also, that's why I've set myself a reminder to come back to this thread on the 1st and go subscribe :)

Support TechPowerUp on Patreon, Unlock New Features

I like Patreon, and I plan to pledge for TPU. But not until Feb 1st. And just my 2 cents, you should've held off on this post until Feb 1st. You see, Patreon always bills on the 1st of the month. No matter when you pledge/subscribe, you're next charge will be the 1st of the next month. For...

Editorial Windows 10 1903 Has a Nasty Audio Stutter Bug Microsoft Hasn't Managed to Fix

I mean, Google might be one way. Check the device IDs on the details tab of the device.... Really though, without knowing the exact model of that laptop, it could be upwards of 10 years since it was released. It's nearly ancient in terms of computer hardware. Did it come with XP or Vista from...

    Philips Introduces the Productivity-Geared 346B1C Monitor: 34" VA, 3440 x 1440, Curved 21:9

Ok ok, can't be too too mad at Amazon, the monitor has now shipped. So once I've got it setup, I'll write up a quick review and post it here. Any particular aspects anyone wants me to focus on?

AMD CEO Lisa Su Talks About 3rd Gen Ryzen Boost Issue in Q3 Earnings Call

I wonder if the question was really geared more toward the issue with the hardware random number generator.

Intel "Tiger Lake-U" Processors Could Support LPDDR5 Memory

And yet I still don't own a single system with DDR4 in it, all still DDR3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ edit: unless you count the GDDR5 on my GTX 1070. But I don't count that.

    Philips Introduces the Productivity-Geared 346B1C Monitor: 34" VA, 3440 x 1440, Curved 21:9

Well crap, Amazon just moved the shipment way out. Now says November 23rd to January 14th delivery. So if it hasn't shipped and I see something decent come along for Black Friday, might end up canceling that order. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GIGABYTE Unveils AORUS Gen4 AIC Adapter Just in Time for TRX40

Wasn't so much worried about which gen mode it would run, more how many slots on the card would actually be functional if you put it in an x8 slot on a board that does not support bifurcation. Based on what others have mentioned, I think best case would be a single nvme slot of the card would...

GIGABYTE Unveils AORUS Gen4 AIC Adapter Just in Time for TRX40

Can anyone speculate how a card like this would behave if plugged into an x8 3.0 slot of an older Xeon E5 system? Any chance it has a switch chip and you can still use all 4 SSD’s? Or would it basically only connect 2 of the SSD’s? Or since the older chipset probably doesn’t support bifurcation...

    Philips Introduces the Productivity-Geared 346B1C Monitor: 34" VA, 3440 x 1440, Curved 21:9

My GTX 1070 handles my current 16:9 1440p 144hz monitor pretty well. The 5700 XT is more like a Super 2060/2070 speed, so I'm betting it'll handle a 21:9 1440p 100hz monitor just fine too.
