ASUS Announces the New ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X Gaming Handhelds

Good to see the Z2 extreme coming to new devices - very interested to see how it performs. I wonder if AMD will find a way of getting FSR4 to run on it? Also would be good to see if the improvements to windows performance will be limited to when running gamepass games in Xbox mode, or if they...

    MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk Wi-Fi

Yes it is an MSI issue as they broke compatibility with a BIOS update. Drives worked fine before the MB BIOS change, the problem is that it was broken back when AMD were making boot time improvements. So you have to choose faster boots, or Nvme compatibility in M2 slot 1

    MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk Wi-Fi

Wish MSI would fix the X670E boards where the top M2 slot won't work with WD NVMEs in BIOS versions from 18 months ago onwards. Reminder they broke it with a BIOS update and have never fixed it, despite a large number of reports to them from users. Would be interesting to see if the issue also...

    WD Black SN7100 2 TB

Nice review for an excellent drive. As an SN770 owner I couldn't buy one though - issues with the top slot in MSI Tomahawk X670E motherboards prevents them from recognizing SN770 or SN850X drives with any BIOS newer than summer last year. It's specific to the slot directly connected to the CPU...

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Handheld Performance

Nice to see the game can run well on both handhelds. Really appreciating these handheld reviews.

MSI Unveils AMD Ryzen B850 & B840 Motherboards

I wonder if these Tomahawk motherboards will work with western digital NVME drives, or if (like the current X670E Tomahawk) they won't be able to use them in the top NVME slot after MSI broke support with a BIOS update in summer 2023. Still waiting for them to solve that.

MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio "Blackwell" Box Leaked

My comments weren't around value for money or whatever (lol value for money on a 1k+ card). Was more challenging the comment that it needs more than 16GB for actual games, which it really doesn't. If people want VRAM which they don't need fine, but people shouldn't be saying cards need more than...

MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio "Blackwell" Box Leaked

Has there been any evidence to show 16GB not being enough in 4k games on top end GPUs though? I've not seen it.

MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio "Blackwell" Box Leaked

Looks more like a 2.5 width to me - the fans seem to stick out more than the shroud that's nearly flush with the slot covers. If so, I'd be happy to see newer cards return to more sensible sizes. More performance for less power/heat would be a trend I'd like to see again in all honesty. 16GB...

Intel Plans to Copy AMD's 3D V-Cache Tech in 2025, Just Not for Desktops

I don't understand those people honestly. Benchmarks don't show periodic stutters which you can get in some games for example, and those are fully eliminated for me. Plus, you do see the better lows and general performance in benchmarks. If CPUs didn't make a difference we'd all have 4090s...

Intel Plans to Copy AMD's 3D V-Cache Tech in 2025, Just Not for Desktops

Even well optimized games and workloads can benefit if the highly utilized code can be contained in the cache, as it is higher bandwidth and lower latency than waiting to go to system RAM. Even factorio, which is an extremely well optimized game, massively benefits from this, as do many other...

Intel Plans to Copy AMD's 3D V-Cache Tech in 2025, Just Not for Desktops

It's not an L4 cache, it's not addressed as an L4 cache by any code. It is a low latency L3 cache with significant performance characteristics that distinguish it from eDRAM or any other on or off die memory options. Cache bandwidth and latency are two key factors on why the L1/2/3 caches are...

Intel Plans to Copy AMD's 3D V-Cache Tech in 2025, Just Not for Desktops

It's not really the same though, as the eDRAM in those chips was far higher latency than what you'd get from an L3 cache. It was on-package but not as tightly integrated as the L3 on X3D chips so again not the same. So better than system RAM, but not as good L3 cache. Otherwise you may as well...

The Next Level in Gaming: MSI X870(E) Series Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Unleash Unmatched Performance

The problem is it's not detecting the drives in the BIOS. So it's nothing to do with the OS installed on them - it never gets that far. I've read other motherboard manufacturers encountered and fixed this as it was to do with low power states when starting up.

The Next Level in Gaming: MSI X870(E) Series Motherboard and AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Unleash Unmatched Performance

No outstanding FW updates for either of my WD drives. Also impacts some Samsung drives. It is clearly an MSI issue as they work on older BIOS for the motherboard. Other motherboard brands don't have the issue, so it is clearly MSI being rubbish. They claim they can't reproduce the issue, yet...
