Updating a DELL Precision M6800 Laptop - BIOS update hangs on updating IMEI

The only viable one I have left is a M4800... other than the problem M6800. DM me if you're interested in either.

I'll definitely try it. I'm currently working on getting another one up for sale, then back to that one.

Updating a DELL Precision M6800 Laptop - BIOS update hangs on updating IMEI

    According to this, the Precision M6800 isn't supported? It's a 4th gen CPU. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000125880/how-to-reset-real-time-clock-rtc-to-recover-your-dell-portable-system#supported-systems

Sorry, never resolved it. I had several other laptops to work with, so the problem laptop has just been gathering dust.

    Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet

Very interesting product. I still have half a 5 gram tube of AS 5... maybe I should get with the times?

Shopping for a DAC... for connecting to a vintage receiver?

Instead of sharing a common ground, each side has it's own dedicated negative. A 3.5mm jack has L+, R+ and Ground (not counting if it has a microphone) Amen!

Shopping for a DAC... for connecting to a vintage receiver?

Yea, a sound card is a DAC at it's heart. 4.4mm outputs are balanced, meaning each side has an individual ground. I've only seen them on "dongle DACs"

Shopping for a DAC... for connecting to a vintage receiver?

Do you think I'll notice any difference in sound quality? I was looking at a few "dongle DACs" that have a balanced 4.4mm output (along with a standard 3.5mm output)... is there a benefit to connecting the balanced input to a receiver?

Shopping for a DAC... for connecting to a vintage receiver?

Backstory: I've got a incredibly nice sounding pair of bookshelf speakers that I built back in the 1980's. And, I recently picked up a 100wpc Realistic STA 2600, it's the same receiver I had back in the 1980's, but it was stolen during a break in in 1990. Hearing it again after 30+ years makes...

Can I Block/Select Specific Updates in Windows 10 Pro?

Been a while since I've posted here! Last year, I intercepted about 2 dozen Dell Laptops slated for recycling. The majority were Precision M6800's in great shape, almost all had either NV or AMD discreet work station graphics. I've since slapped SSD's in and sold most of them. Off-tangent here...

overclocking killed my z170 board and 6600k

Don't assume the 6600K is dead. I recently had two MSI motherboards die, one was due to a fan short, the other just stopped powering up after adding ram sticks. The 4790k CPU and memory were fine. That and at least three X58 boards just stopped working, one had a burnt edge. The Xeon chip(s)...

    SonicWall TZ400 Network Appliance/Gateway - can't access setup.

Yea, Win 10 on an older DELL precision M4800. And no doubt you are right with 3 different GUI's make Windows 10 "smoother"... it doesn't seem to have helped much. grrr.

    SonicWall TZ400 Network Appliance/Gateway - can't access setup.

I'll try that! Why would the Ethernet properties set in one location not show up in another? It's frustrating, fuck windows progress... My guess is it's a conflict between MS Windows and DELL drivers for the Ethernet adapter? So subnet mask and subnet prefix length are the same?

    SonicWall TZ400 Network Appliance/Gateway - can't access setup.

The BLUE power LED is solid, only the green TX lights are active. When it's powered on, the yellow light turns on and off till the green TX lights go on, and the power light is blue. The thing is... I set a static IP address in the windows XP/Win7 interface (that I'm used to), but it tells me...

    SonicWall TZ400 Network Appliance/Gateway - can't access setup.

After I set, saved, closed and confirmed the settings in the ethernet properties here: I go here: Then here, why does it say DHCP, when I set a static IP before??? It goes here... I have no idea what to enter when I select "Manual"! I set it to Manual... why is it not the same as...
