Plextor Launches New Qflix Internal and External DVD Burners

Plextor is reinforcing its product line-up of Qflix recording devices by introducing the two new PX-806SA and PX-Q840U internal and external optical drives. Both drives feature Qflix recording technology from Sonic Solutions, enabling consumers to download and burn movie and TV titles on a DVD media for immediate viewing. The PX-806SA internal SATA super multi drive supports blazing fast 20x burns on single layer DVD±R media (4.7 GB), 8x burn speed on double/dual layer DVD media (8.5 GB) and 12x on DVD-RAM media. As for the old CDs, it is capable of 48x CD-ROM and 32x CD-RW burn speeds. The drive's bundle features Roxio Venue, which connects directly to CinemaNow for media download, Roxio Creator 10 CE burning software and two recordable Qflix DVDs by Ridata. At last, both drives have 2MB of buffer memory, the standard for today's burners. The PX-Q840U model is essentially the same drive, but designed for external usage. Like most Plextors, the PX-Q840U external retails for $149.99 and the PX-806SA internal retails for $89.99, a lot above you'd expect to pay for a DVD burner. Both drives are available for purchase now through distributors and retailers in North and South America.

I still have my old antiquated PX-708A. Runs great too.

The only problem i see with these new drives are the ridiculous price tag. They should sell the PX-806SA 39.99$.

This way, it could be a hit. But at 90$ they won't even sell 1000 of them. Their loss.

PERSONALY i really dont see what the 'boo hoo' is all about. $89.99 = 57.12GBP is a fairly big price for ONE fecking luxury you probably gonna use once in a blue moon. & Honestly because of Progress technology has made past the last few years - Encoding a full movie to DVD for DVD players doesnt take very long - 30-40mins at the most because thanks to DELL & other OEM companies - as well as the people who pay our salaries - we can afford a QUAD CORE CPU which eats movies like a muppet on beef jerky. & 30-40mins of waiting justifys the price for 1 of these drives???

TBH Malware - thanks for posting but in future report on more important things instead of something inconsequential as this.

Im sure there are more important goings on then somebody releasing a DVD-RW. unless its a REAL break through in terms of technology please keep the channels clean of trash = my $2

A PX-820SA came out few months ago, and now a PX-806SA is out?? This doesn't make any sense at all.

Nothing special here, except a drive that looks decent enough to not need "ghosted" (unless those logos aren't removable stickers)

I once paid like $100 for a Plextor CD recorder based on several suggestions saying that Plextor was the best. The thing used to make coasters like crazy and wouldn't work with several of the media types that I tried. I bought a Lite On for $9.99 after rebate and not only was it faster but it burned everything with very few coasters. I can't believe that they still charge their inflated prices.

New Tech could go either way

It's hardly news that a new technology has kinks to work out. The actors union is still negotiating with studios about digital content compensation. Keeping some sort of control is still a dilemma the studios haven't solved but maybe this is the right direction. If the studios can provide more content for less money, maybe its the right move in the long run.
