The RS600, and its successor the R700 will be pin compatible, Avivo capable, and Vista ready. Features being introduced by the RS700 will be DX10 compatibility, and SM 4.0. The RS600 will be based on an x700 class graphics processor, thus will not support SM3, or even DirectX 9c. ATI will skip DirectX 9c and SM3, and go straight to DX10 and SM4 with the RS700. Since the RS700 is pin compatible with the RS600, it will make it easy for motherboard manufacturers to upgrade thier line of motherboards without making PCB alterations.
