The tentative release time-frames for upcoming GPUs by NVIDIA and AMD have been seesawing between early 2009 and Q4 2009 for some time now. Industrial sources tell DigiTimes, that NVIDIA will be launching the GT300 graphics processor as early as in Q1 2009. What's even more surprising according to the report, is that the new GPU will be built on the 55nm manufacturing node of its foundry partners.

In related news, NVIDIA will be showcasing its range of products based on the 55nm G200b core at CES 2009, which starts on January 8. The notable products include a dual-GPU card, the GeForce GTX 295, and the single GPU flagship product, the GeForce GTX 285. NVIDIA refused to comment on the report.

Combine that with the recession/ depression, if this is true it's a misjudgement from Nvidia.

Benchmark Scores I've fried plenty o' parts when not OCing. Need to start doing it again to avoid problems...
I guess the GTX 295 will have the same fate as all of the "dual" cards from nVidia so far: high price, short life span and lack of support!
I really hoped nVidia learned something from these last few years...

NV wants the high-end market all to itself for a few months like they did with the 8800 series.

Good idea, crappy timing.

They won't learn anything... That Jsnun Who-Whatever is being forced out by shareholders because of his screwups... so expect a change of pace in 2010.

Would not go as far as crappy timing as a hell load of people buy in Feb \ March time due to tax return.

I wouldn't mind at all if nvidia released their cards in Q1, hopefully it will force ATI to release sooner as well :D. I wouldn't mind going from a 3870 to a 5870 or gtx360.

i call BS, we all know that the GTX295 is supposed to release sometime but the GTX 285?...i suppose that could be the GT200b or w/e with 256SPU, GDDR5 memory but htere haven't been any leaks on this till now which is strange. along with their dual gpu card, for sure bullshit, i don't see nvidia going from a single monolithic gpu to a duel gpu in 6 months that just doesn't happen, there'd have to have been MAJOR architectural changes.

yea i dont see the 300 cards hitting Q1, Q4 is more like it, we all know from NV past few rounds that once that X2 card hits the next cards are only a few months away tho.

maybe for a new single GPU flagship a few months after, but not a dual-gpu chip. This may sound like a fanboy thing even though i've been nvidia all my life but ATI will be the first to come out with dual-GPU, be it Pentium D or c2d design.

Let them keep pumping out new cards as fast as possible, it keeps prices low. The name of the card doesn't make a difference.

just getting cards on 55nm and shooting for 40nm? methinks end of the year for that.

GT200 has more than enough power to be refreshed a few times to keep consumers happy.
