After more than one year of development time the Japanese cooling specialist Scythe Co., Ltd. releases the new Scythe Mugen 2 CPU cooler. The name Mugen comes from the Japanese for "infiniteness" and stands already for the highest cooling capacity at low noise level. To fulfill this image, a great value was laid on improving the already established features of the former Scythe Mugen Cooler.

The successful concept of Mugen CPU cooler was further developed for Scythe Mugen 2 in a very consistent way. For this, the experience of Scythe engineers was a great influence as well as improvement suggestions from users of the former Scythe Mugen. Compared with the old Mugen, the number of cooling fins has been increased and at the same time, the weight was decreased by 50 g. To ensure optimal fitting of the cooler on the mainboard, Scythe Mugen 2 uses a novel Back Plate/Screws solution with the name Flip Mount Super Back-Plate (F.M.S.B.). This mounting system is compatible with all current sockets including the new Intel LGA1366.

Scythe Mugen 2 CPU coolers is based on a completely new lamellar structure. So-called Multiple Airflow pass-through structure (M.A.P.S.) has been aerodynamically optimized and allows an optimum heat transfer via the supplied Slip Stream 120 mm PWM fan (0 - 26.5 dBA at 74,25 CFM / 126 m³/h max.). For the user, this means: High performance at low speed - and little noise level!

As with the former Scythe Mugen, the fans can be mounted at four different positions. Regarding to their needs, users can customize the air flow inside of their case and arrange the fan with the available space. Maximum of four fans can be assembled at the same time, the fan clips needed for additional fans have to be purchased separately.

Product Information:

Model Number.: SCMG-2000

Compatibility:
Intel: Socket 478 All Speeds, Socket T / LGA775 All Speeds, Socket LGA1366 All Speeds

AMD: Socket 754 All Speeds, Socket 939 All Speeds, Socket AM2 All Speeds, Socket AM2+ All Speeds, Socket 940 All Speeds

Combined Dimensions: 130 x 100 x 158 mm / 5.12 x 3.94 x 6.22 in

Fan Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25 mm / 4.72 x 4.72 x 0.98 in

Noise Level: 0 - 26.50 dBA

Air Flow: 0 - 74.25 CFM = 0 - 126 m³/h

Fan Speed: 1,400 rpm (±10%)

Weight: 870 g

Material of Base Plate: Nickel-plated copper

Mugen 2 CPU cooler is now available in stores for 33.50 Euro excluding VAT / 39.50$ excluding TAX. For more information, please visit the product page.

The original Mugen, or Infinity as they used to call it was a great HSF. This one looks like it will do a very good job of cooling Core i7's.

Man, I would love to have that as a paper weight over my Striker II! That baby is HUGE! And, I'm with Erocker as saying it should be good for i7. I just don't know how good it will be about the board!!!!

That would cause massive heat more than help, you can't flow air 2 different directions in the same area like that and expect it to work...

Now to get to the reality...

This cooler is simply stupid.. We don't need such massive heatsinks, we need a faster way to transfer the heat off the chip! No direct contact pipes, and massive aluminum pipes..

Seriously this is ridiculous, I have numerous coolers that are half the size that cool equally as well, the only plus to a massive heatsink like this is silence... And honestly I think there are other coolers out there that will stay just about as cool with a smaller fan, which probably makes the same amount of noise.

Cool yes, but seriously it's overkill, unless you just take off the fan.

I like the mounting system for the 1366 .. wont need a washer mod for that.

Bring it on.. and only a moron would put 4 fans it.. that hardly needs to be stated.

Not a chance, you can't compare aluminum to copper, it can't get the heat off the chip fast enough to keep it as cold.
