ASUS Eee PC Keyboard Could Ship in May This Year

ASUS Eee PC Keyboard, another clone of the Eee PC trend, could arrive to users as early as May the company's bosses have confirmed at CeBit. Company chairman Jonney Shih said the firm is aiming to deliver the product in Q2 this year, which means in May according to his words. If not delivered on that month, the Eee PC Keyboard will ship in June for sure, he added. The device incorporates a fully working PC and a touchscreen display into a standard keyboard form factor. Initially, two versions will be released - a wired one for $400 and a wireless model for around $500. Both will feature a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and a 16 GB or 32 GB SSD for storage. For now it is unclear what the 5-inch touchscreen will let you do. Other specs include built in 802.11b/g/n Wi Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and Ultra Wideband HDMI, on top of that there are 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 1x VGA and 1 x HDMI, as well as a headphone and mic ports.

QFT. At $200-300 this would be an absolute killer product, and there's no reason they couldn't sell it for that price. I mean, cut HDMI if you need to on the low-end models, but personally I have always thought the keyboard-PC model to be a good one... Anyone know the name of the company that first did this? They used to advertise in PC Magazine all the time. Only downside was they were P4-based so you basically had a space-heater/hand-warmer all-in-one!

The touchscreen probably doesn't cost that much, and there's no telling if they're going to use OLED's or something, which will eventually make the cost very cheap.

Also, I'd say something like a touchscreen is great because then you don't need to bother with a mouse.

A touchscreen only works as a mouse on the touch screen, otherwise, it basically becomes a trackpad with pictures. Who in the hell prefers a trackpad over a mouse?

A person who hates having yet one more peripheral necessary to use a DVR/media center?

A keyboard is already clumsy when used in this fashion -- why burden someone with a mouse, when a trackbad built-in will do?
