Asus Rampage II Gene vs DFI Lanparty Jr. X58-T3H6

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131352

Given that the Rampage II Extreme is priced at like $400, I wouldn't be surprised if this board cost at least $250, if not more, and higher than DFI's similar offering at $230 with the Lanparty Jr. X58-T3H6:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136066

As far as features differences between the two motherboards go:

- the specs for this board state 8 phase power whereas DFI's has 6 phase. does anyone know if this really makes a difference?
- possibly better onboard sound with the X-Fi?? it is being reported that it is software driven/emulated though
- DFI has both Coax and Optical SPDIF out, this has Optical only
- additional mounting holes for a Socket 775 heatsink?? (DFI does not have this)
- 2 x 1394a Firewire ports (one on rear I/O, one via onboard header) - DFI has none
- Seven SATA ports, as opposed to 6 on the DFI
- one rear eSATA port (DFI has none)
- 5 fan headers, as opposed to 6 on the DFI
- concerning the fan headers, all of them appear to be 4-pin PWM as opposed to only the CPU fan header on the DFI
- no floppy connector port (DFI has one)
- single PS/2 port for keyboard only (DFI has both keyboard and mouse)

I dont know,my TT lanbox gets pretty hot with 1 9800gtx+ in it,I couldnt imagine 2.

What model lanbox do u have? I have the VF1000BWS(windows on the side & handle) and i get great temps:) my single 3870 idles at around 49 degrees and 65 on load. E8400 never exceeds 50 degrees and idles at 39.

I am sorry to break it to you but Christmas was two months ago

lol yup i know but i was referring to this coming Christmas :) By then prices may have dropped a bit.

I got the one without the handle and i think a 9800gtx gets a bit hotter than a 3870.And if i put anything bigger in this case,I would have to cut off the side mounted hardrive cage for it to even fit.The 91/2 inch 9800gtx+ just makes it.

I don't think you would have to cut it off maybe just shave off a few inches. I have seen people fit 8800ultras in that case without cutting the entire cage out.

No floppy! Also, the IDE header is in a bad place. IDE doesn't have much in the way of insulation (if any) so placing it that close to the 24-pin connector isn't a bright idea. I wouldn't buy it.

I'm odd, I know. XD

If you want my floppy drive, you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead, hands. XD

floppy is irrelevant, you can get USB floppies, or just boot from flash drives.

IDE has 40 ground wires to prevent interference, of the 80 wires in there. im sure your IDE drives will be the speed problem, not the fact its close to a 24 pin power connector.

anyone using an i7 system can afford new SATA II SSD goodness.

Why does this have an IDE port.. If you have 400$ for a motherboard, I think you can drop 20$ for a dvd drive or 50$ for a hard drive...

Agreed. I bet there's many people w/ super inexpensive setups running sata......I.D.E., gtfo. :shadedshu. Honestly, in the past 1/2 year I bought 2 SATA dvd burners, 1 to replace my IDE & 1 for someone else. :toast:

Are you serious? Who uses floppies anymore? If I absolutely had to boot from a floppy for some reason I'd bust out my USB floppy that is collecting dust.

A floppy connector would be a complete waste of space on a board like this where everything is so tightly packed.

The one thing I noticed about this board, which is strange that theres no clips on one side of the memory slots? If you bought corsair dominator memory with the fan theres nothing for one side of the fan to clip on to cause the fan actually mounts on them pull out clips.

Very true! It sure eliminates the need to remove any PCI-Express cards in the first slot to swap out RAM though!

Luckily, the fan would probably just hang from the top ones fine. Not really sure though. But some good (and cheap) DDR3 doesn't even get hot.
