I'm pretty sure SLI works w/o a bridge (if you were to put it into the matx X58 systems low profile etc) just performance won't scale so well due to the lack of a bridge and being forced to communicate over the pci-e bus

if anyone has a sli system wanna yank out their dongle... and let us know what happens

though the driver still limits you from going tri-sli dongleless... only dual card bridgeless sli

most this is designed to run is movies like take the load from the cpu, do some steam games like team fortress 2 and CS:S and maybe run an mmo like world of warcraft

these are for media rigs and small factor systems so i dont know who would sli in those

Uh, have you seen two 9600GT in SLi? The scaling is pretty surprising, just a bit over a 9800GTX+. Two of these (if they had the proper SLi bridge, of course) would be amazing considering their power consumption.

We aren't talking about putting two 9500GT's in SLI here, you're talking about two 9600GT's -- two of those actually put out very impressive performance, about the equivalent of an 3870X2, give or take.
