OCZ Achieves 80 Plus Gold and Silver Efficiency with New Z-Series Power Supplies

I think these are the first gold/silver psu's I've ever seen. If these don't squeal, I'm definitely getting one for my next build

And the 90% effieciency rating is more than likely with a 220/240V supply, and not 110/120V supply.

There are quite a few psu's that come close to the 90% efficiency mark when supplied by 240V.

Under Gold I can see Delta Electronics, Inc.
If I remember right, they did the PSU's with the melting wires for Acer's Predator systems.
Listing gold or silver doesn't tell me all there is to know about its quality... that means I would take a trusted regular efficiency PSU over these any day.

Anyway... nice to see OCZ with such products... I'll just have to wait for reviews and pricing before deciding.

Probably not by Seasonic. I was told the gold is by Sirtec and the two silvers are by FSP. These two are actually the OEM for most of OCZ's brand power supply.

Specs is another subject .... true healthy PSU its another ...

Its Good that OCZ got the lead in just one fresh line of PSUs .

With the market on Crisis , only true distinct products , can justify their existence ,
and do sales .


From another point of view , the 80PLUs certification , had force many Chinese partners,
to start bringing better products .

The 80PLUs Gold , it would help most the environment than gaming , but the point is that we need both

Corsair PSUs are souped up Seasonic units. That's why I'm considering getting this one.

Don't know why you'd think that since PCP&C doesn't build any of their power supplies, either.

Turbo Cools are built by Win-Tact and Silencers are built by Seasonic.

PCP&C is, essentially, a rebrander of other OEM's power supplies, built to PCP&C's particular requirements, such as 80mm leaf blower fans.

PCP&C, while once probably the premium brand, seems to have lost its lead, too, as numerous other "brands" have equaled or surpassed PCP&C's voltage regulation and ripple/noise control. It almost seems as if all that PCP&C has left for distinction in the power supply arena is its reputation for selling power supplies that are louder than most.

Sorry, but the 80Plus rating is done with a 115V input. Not surprising since the 80Plus organization is based in Tennessee and testing is done there.

Of course, all one has to do to verify is to visit the 80plus.org website, look under power supplies and read how each was tested (input voltage, efficiency achieved at various outputs, etc.)
