GDDR5 at 128bit is just as fast as GDDR3 at 256bit apparently.

Thats about right; GDDR5 runs at twice the speed of GDDR3. For example, GDDR3 at 900 MHz runs at 1800 MHz DDR; GDDR5 at 900 MHz runs at 3600 MHz QDR.
So, having GDDR5 and half the bus width pretty much evens things out.

If ATI is able to get Havok working with their cards, then I'm buying this.

With 512mb of Vram it would make 4 kinda useless due to scaling issues.

And expect crappy driver support. As in you might run into a few problems.
I just wanna run 3dmark lol

you think 1gb vs 512mb cards would effect it that much?

i wanna see benchmarks!!!! and how did you know it was closer to HD 4850 performance?

http://www.techpowerup.com/89713/Radeon_HD_4770_Pictured_Slated_for_May.html No benchmarks, just ATI stating 4770's place performance wise :)

Nope, see the review here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-4750-rv740-review-preview-test/

They got a test card a while back, as you can see it's closer to the 4850 in terms of performance

And this was just with a 4750, a 4770 is bound to be faster.

Havok isnt tied to ATI, its OpenCL so both ati and nvidia are going to have acceleration for it, physx im sure will endup going OpenCL as well, so both sides will bennifit from it.

My next card :) hopefully spahire will bring out some vapor-x single slot solutions, cause i might add a second one in crossfire for the first time in my life when additional performance is needed.

A pair of these in CF would be real nice in a mid-range/Budget gaming system.

Damn , it looks so cheap , almost fragile to handle :) , parteners will fight for this chips for sure.
Nvidia prepare for another price cut , let's hope Nvidia parteners won't defect , they are greedy green bastards but they should restrain themselves.

I wonder could it reach performance of 4850 with OC. That 128-bit memory interface is a bottleneck, and GDDR5 is more expensive than GDDR3.

no the 128 isnt a bottle neck due to the use of gddr5, the money saved on the pcb(its alot less complex due to only needing to be 128bit) will make up for any extra cost the gddr5 bring in.

the fact that gddr5 moves 2x the data of gddr3 at the same clock means that the memory being 128bit dosnt matter since the same bandwith is produced.

Still I'm waiting for some benchmark... with overclocking of course. I have ASUS 3850 and with TP RBE i've moded BIOS so I have almost the performance of 3870.

MSI has an interesting 4830OC card which can be O/C from 575 to 740Mhz stable and some for the mem... can't remeber but like that it is very near to performance of 4850.

GDDR5 is more expensive so I thnik it will not be overclockable significantly over the factory default.

Let's hope for the best.
