USPTO Rejects Additional Rambus Patent Claims Against NVIDIA

NVIDIA announces that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has initially rejected an additional eight claims challenged by NVIDIA in two patents that Rambus has asserted against it in litigation. This follows the USPTO's rejection last month of 41 other claims in seven patents that Rambus had asserted against NVIDIA.

NVIDIA has compiled a 100 percent success rate at the USPTO in challenges to the claims in the patents asserted against it by Rambus in an International Trade Commission (ITC) action filed in November 2008.

"We are pleased that the USPTO decided to review the patentability of these two additional Rambus patents and continued to agree with NVIDIA's challenge to these eight claims," said David Shannon, NVIDIA executive vice president and general counsel. "The USPTO has now initially rejected all of the patent claims asserted by Rambus against NVIDIA in the ITC."

The ITC litigation involves memory controllers related to graphics processors.

Tell me a mainstream company that's 100% honest and true, imo that's the bigger deal than another lawsuit that isn't (imo) even newsworthy due to the frequency of lawsuits in this arena within the last few years, no offense.

I only care when the company in question is deceptive towards me!, the consumer. Renaming their 8800GTX mobile as GTX280M is an example of deception... anyway..no point mentioning it to you since we are not at the same wavelength.

I agree it's kinda shady how they did that, but the performance is still there in the end, along with lower power consumption and temps, if you want desktop performance, get a desktop. At least the G92 is still a solid performer, definately one of NV's greatest accomplishments imo, sure it's kinda rediculous how many models it's gone thru, but it's STILL performing quite well on both desktop and in the more expensive yet gimped form on mobile.

The deceptiveness as you found is cleared with researching, I kinda wish they'd use different model naming schemes on mobiles from both ati and nv tbh. But it's true, that doesn't matter to me as I don't really believe in a gaming laptop...too budget oriented and used to building towers to want to consider one lol. But a couple have impressed me until I saw their price tag (yikes!).

The bottom line is selling price, Nvidia knows that my willingness to pay a certain amount for G92 design and a true GTX280 design is different.

I will be damn piss off if i thought i have bought a GTX280 mobile design that could last me longer... but found out later its the same G92 mobile design years back. If I know the truth i might hold off my purchase or get an ATI 4850 mobile depending on price which is bad for their business. So they deceive me into thinking its the latest greatest so I would buy.

I would rather them tell me the truth, its a G92 and respect them for that. Then again, respect from customer worth 'Zero' in Nvidia balance sheet.
