Nothing stopping you installing without a key and making use of the re-arm feature to extend the activation count down. If you do it each time it runs out, you get up to 120 days. Which is enough time until October 22nd where you can then use the key to activate it.

Just make sure you install the exact version you intend to purchase.

7600.16385 added a lot more drivers over 16384.

I assume it was ready to go, then they did a 'last call' to the OEM's asking what drivers they wanted included by default.

I'm talking about 16385...

RC will require a format.

Must use 7600.16384/16385.

Until the keys actually come out (And or 16385 is public), we won't know if 16384 works or not.

Also must use the full retail version, unless you have a previous qualifying version of windows.

You can just mod cversion.ini and install it over whatever you've got.

I just did it on RC and it worked, but it was acting a little stupid. Idk if it was b/c I had already done an upgrade before or drivers, etc.

If you try it, I would uninstall all drivers (AVs, firewalls) to be safe.

Messy, and unreliable IMO.

Especially considering you are going from development code, to release compiled code.

I did beta to RC and it was perfect, so figured I'd try. Also, my system wouldn't be a good reference anyway. I have so much shit installed that it practically kills windows just from that.
I can't count the number of times windows would just blue screen and never work again haha. And that's with me doing/changing nothing for days and weeks at a time. It just rolls over and dies haha.

I have some machines with 7264 on it. I think the upgrade will work on those.

Beta to RC is still "development" code.

RTM is actual release code(i.e. debug stuff probably no longer included), so an in place upgrade will probably not install/remove everything correctly.

And that's going to dissuade me

Vista to RC worked great (on two PCs), you'd think if M$ can pull that off, then upgrading within the same OS (well, all the same really haha) would be easy.

Possible? Easily.

Intended? No. If they didn't intend it, don't expect it to be hunky dory. When upgrading from Vista, Microsoft is expecting files in specific locations(And specific VERSIONS). With Windows 7, files are likely to be different versions and liable to be moved.

If you're someone that didn't want to format to begin with, a risky procedure of upgrading RTM over RC is probably not what you're looking for. :p

I think I found the problem. Just did a clean install and daemon tools screwed it up. Almost nothing works. Daemon tools worked flawlessly in RC. M$ just likes fixing things that aren't broke haha.

Edit: Figured it out. Audio driver cause the whole OS to hang. Lovely. Works good in RC, but not at all in final, hmmm....

Bah *deletes RC iso* Ah well I can wait a little while longer. What is the deal with the OEM vista's that have the free upgrade to 7? It says only available to system builders. I dont do it for a living but I am always putting a pc together or upgrading one ect. Would I be able to use the upgrade for free option? Or is that only for buisness?
I use OEM Vista several times but this somehow looks different need to register with M$

If you purchased it after a certain date you get a coupon and/or can send in for a free upgrade cd/license to windows 7.
