Buffalo Launches Two 10X Blu-ray Writers

Buffalo Japan has come up with two new Blu-ray disc burners, the internal BR-H1016FBS-BK, and the external BR-H1016SU2. The special-attraction here is the drives' single-layer BD-ROM burning speed of 10X, and 8X for dual-layer discs, while DVDs and CDs burn at the most common speeds found in the market: 16x for DVD±R, 12x for DVD-RAM, 8x for DVD±R DL and DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW. The internal BR-H1016FBS-BK drive is originally made by Hitachi-LG, and uses a standard SATA interface, while the external BR-H1016SU2 gives you the option of using USB 2.0 or eSATA (the latter could help, as the drive transfers data at 45 MB/s at 10X). The external drive will sell for ¥33,800 (around US $360), and the internal one for ¥28,500 (around $303).

Wow..Even at 10x how long would it take to write a 25gb backup? hmmm
25gb/45mb/s so about 10 min Not bad Not bad at all

Seeing these prices I understand I'm not gonna have a BD writer in the PC anytime soon, and that's a real shame. The prices look to me very inflated.

what do you think will be more affordable over the next 2 years this or Flash drives...My money says flash drives.....But these will be close and are already cheaper so.....I'll stick with option 3 mechanical drives can't beat $69 a TB

Not bad for the speeds. I think the LG drives or Pioneer Drives that are at 8x do a fantastic job now and are a good bit cheaper.

There's BD and... BD! At least for now, since the HD-DVD is dead. It's not feasible to backup or to have a movie or music collection on flash drives, I guess they're meant for data transport. But who knows, maybe in a few years 50 GB of flash memory will be cheaper than a BD.

they was like $400 last year for a good one, Fitseries just picked up a great one for $139 prices are dropping there faster than bd
it is a shame tho ur right about the inflated prices from lack of competition
