Galaxy Readying GeForce GTS 250 Cool Edition

Galaxy is preparing yet another GeForce GTS 250 SKU, this one labeled "Cool Edition", owing to its design that focuses on the GPU cooler. The card uses the usual Galaxy shade of blue colour. The PCB holds a 5-phase VRM for the GPU and memory, and is cooled by dedicated heatsink. The center of attraction is the GPU cooler, which looks elliptical. From its central GPU contact base made of copper, arise several radially-projecting, forked aluminum fins. Nested in a plastic shroud is an 80 mm fan for active cooling, while the memory cools directly under its airflow.

This card comes in two variants based on memory size: 512 MB and 1 GB. It uses fairly standard clock speeds of 702 MHz (core), and 1000 MHz (memory). Output connectors include DVI-D, D-Sub, and HDMI with provision for audio routing from your sound-card. The card can pair with two more of its kind (or GPU at least), for 3-way SLI. Expect standard pricing when this hits stores soon.

there are like 40 variations of this same GTS250 each promising 'groundbreaking performance' what is the point? they should add a newer cooler as revised version to the cards

It's time for a NEW PSU standard with the PSU providing a new connection for the graphics card. A higher current lower voltage connector. Why? Dont need such large/expensive VR on the GPU card making GPUs cheaper and less waste on upgrade... we all upgrade GPUs more often than PSUs. Second, keep the VR heat away from the GPU and mainboard by having most of the "hard work" done with transformers/regulators than just DC regulators alone on the GPU. More efficient, and cheaper overall setup. Third, GPU cards would now be shorter giving us less problem with installing them in tight spaces. Fourth, reduces airflow restrictions in the case also. What a win-win.

i think it actually looks good. every card u see now that is different from the reference design is usually black with a black and/or white cooler. i think the blue looks good imo so poo on u Bo$$

Newegg has it. I don't understand the point - GTS 250's been out (in this guise) for six months or more and there's really nothing compelling there vs. any other GTS 250.

lol init just, and with no real advantage over its older version that i can see other than a marmite cooler.

i thought the die shrink would allow higher clocks but there still arent many that have higher clocks than my 2 year old msi nx8800 gts 512

8800GTS 512s were more then capable of running faster then 9800GTX+'s if not matching the same clock speeds.
